Historic WWII aircraft

to visit Tulsa Air and Space Museum TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium (TASM) will host several historic aircraft including the famous B-29 Superfortress FIFI from September 12 to 16. The museum will also host a 1940s Hangar Dance Friday evening and a Women in Aviation event on Saturday. The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) AirPower History Tour will bring the sights, sounds and stories of World War II aviation to Tulsa. FIFI, one of only two B-29 bombers in the world that still fly, will be accompanied by the P-51 Mustang Gunfighter, C-45 Expeditor Bucket of Bolts, T-6 Texan, and PT-13 Stearman. The tour’s collection of World War II aircraft provides powerful, hands on history lessons to audiences across North America. Visitors to the ramp will be able to view the aircraft up close, purchase rides and tour the B-29 cockpit when the airplane is not flying. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress, first flown in 1942, began active service in 1944 and is perhaps best known as the aircraft whose missions over Japan helped bring about the end of World War II. It was designed as a replacement for the older B-17s and B-24s, with longer range and greater bomb loads. The B-29 was also used in the Korean War in the early 1950s and was a staple of the U.S. Air Force until later that decade. FIFI was acquired by the CAF in the early 1970s when a group of CAF members found her at the U.S. Navy Proving Ground at China Lake, California where she was intended to be used as a missile target. The airplane was rescued and restored and has flown for over 40 years traveling coast to coast each year attracting large crowds at every tour stop. The aircraft will be staged at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium, 3624 North 74th East Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74115. The event is open to the pub-

lic Wednesday, September 12 through Sunday, September 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Access to the ramp and museum is $20 for ages 12 and above and $10 for youth age 5 through 11. Children age 4 and under are admitted free. No coupons or passes allowed. Rides range from $85 to $1995 depending on aircraft type and seat position selected. Rides may be booked in advance at www.AirPowerTour.org where additional information about the event may also be found. Jump, jive and swing back into the 1940s at TASM’s Hangar Dance on the evening of Friday, September 14. The dance will begin at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. It will take place inside the museum’s exhibit hall directly in front of a recreation of the art deco facade of Tulsa Municipal Airport terminal. Guests are encouraged to wear vintage dress popular during the 1940s. Every guest will receive a souvenir gift. The TEG Swing Band will be performing swing jazz music from the 1940s. A cash bar will be available and a vintage canteen marketplace will be set up with vendors from hand-rolled cigars to bourbon & wine tastings and more. Tickets are currently on sale at TulsaMuseum.org. All proceeds from this event will go towards supporting TASM’s programs including Oklahoma’s aerospace heritage preservation, STEM education, student field trips, camps and scholarships. TASM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium is the region’s hub of science based learning through discovery. Each year, more than 55,000 visitors pass through the museum to explore Tulsa’s rich aviation heritage and explore the correlation of science and technology with flight. To learn more visit TulsaMuseum.org.

#NSPreps Area Game of the Week

Seminole

vs.

Tecumseh

By Adam Ewing

adam.ewing@news-star.com Twitter: @aethefranchise

It's week two and already someone's '0' has to go. Seminole is coming off a 39-7 victory over Harrah at home last week and heads to Tecumseh determined to keep the momentum going.

Cameron Gunville - Seminole

Tecumseh's 38-35 victory over Bethel was close. The Savages trailed in the second half against Bethel, but thanks to a two-headed monster in the backfield that combined for 248 yards and four touchdowns, mixed with a defense that recorded eight sacks, Tecumseh was able to get the job done. With victory last week, Tecumseh coach Ty Bullock feels his team is ready to compete with the Chieftains.

Will Hilton - Tecumseh

“Seminole is one of the best football programs in the state,” Bullock said. “We have to match their intensity and our team is excited for the opportunity and we welcome the challenge this early in the season.” In terms of yardage, the game features the area's sixth and seventh ranked quarterbacks. Seminole's Cade Hammond only attempted nine passes last week. He completed five of them for 116 yards and a two touchdowns. Will Hilton tossed the pigskin around for 144 yards and one touchdown. The running backs in this game all have big-play ability. Seminole's backfield of Jamon Dennis and Cameron Gunville were responsible for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Tecumseh's backs went off to the tune of 248 yards and four scores. Both teams have receivers that can score from anywhere on the field. Seminole's Chico Baker had one reception for 42 yards that went for six. Saybion Battles took one to the house from 34 yards out. Tecumseh's Dylan Morris caught four passes totaling 118 yards, including a long of 54 yards. Morris caught Tecumseh's only touchdown through the air last week. Seminole forced one turnover in week one, recovering a Harrah fumble. Tecumseh's defense gave up 30-plus points but sacked the Bethel quarterback eight times last week.

that the Redskins all but gave away with seven bad snaps resulting in a loss of 60 yards. Bethel led in the second half and lost 38-35 at Tecumseh in week one action.

Both teams came up short in week one and will be looking to secure the first win of the season as Bethel travels to McLoud for the Redskins' homecoming game.

Bethel brings the area's second-leading passer in Gunner Smith to McLoud in hopes of spoiling McLoud's homecoming festivities. With only one game played, Smith trails Shawnee's quarterback Heath Hunter, who has two games under his belt, by 85 yards. The junior quarterback also has four touchdown passes, putting him in a two-way tie with Chabon Anderson for the most in the News-Star's coverage area. McLoud's quarterback, Koalton Keller, comes in as the fourth-leading passer with 155 yards and two touchdown passes.

The running game features two backs that will look to get more involved this week. McLoud's Damien Dye had a decent outing at Meeker, carrying the ball 10 times for 77 yards and a touchdown. His week one performance puts him at the eighth spot amongst the leading rushers. Bethel's Matthew Melter is a load to bring down and made the best of his 12 carries, going for 63 yards and a score.

Damien Dye - McLoud

Bethel's receivers put up huge numbers in week one. Drae Wood went off for 117 yards and three touchdowns and his teammate Devin Acklin had 109 in the loss at Tecumseh. Coye Campbell made the best of his two receptions in McLoud's week one loss. Both of his receptions went for touchdowns. McLoud recovered one fumble last week that eventually led to a touchdown. Bethel has two sacks and one fumble recovery so far this season. The teams will line up for kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday.

formance over Bowlegs in the Highway 59 Bowl moved them out of the cellar in the #NSPreps Power Rankings. The Tigers have a quarterback in Lane Brooks with one start under his belt and if he can keep up the high-level play, Maud's has a good chance to make noise this year.

1. Seminole (1-0) – Fresh off a 38-7

dismantling of Harrah, the Chieftains appeared to be firing on all cylinders. Seminole scored 32 points in the first half before coach Snyder called off the dogs. Cade Hammond attempted just nine passes in the win. Hammond managed two touchdowns and completed five passes for 116 yards. The Chieftains had several big plays, including four touchdowns of 30-plus yards. Next Game: Sept. 7 @ Tecumseh

7. Bethel (0-1) – Even though the Wildcats gave

Left, Tecumseh Coach Ty Bullock; Right - Maud Coach Brant Hayes

2. Meeker (2-0) – The Caden Wolford show is off

to a great start. In two games so far this season, the sophomore tailback has 357 yards rushing and five touchdowns. The Bulldogs have one special teams touchdown, three sacks and five forced turnovers. Meeker outscored their two opponents 65-27 so far this season. Next Game: Sept. 7 at Perry

3. Shawnee (0-2) – The momentum from Shaw-

4. Tecumseh (1-0) – Coach Ty Bullock has to be

impressed with his team after coming back to beat a scrappy Bethel team. Tecumseh relied upon a ground attack that went for a combined 338 yards and two backs over the 100-yard mark. Even though the Savages gave up 35 points in week one, they made a ton of plays on defense. As a team, the Savages had eight sacks and 13 tackles for a loss. Senior Tyler Bingham led the defense with 3.5 sacks. Next Game: Sept. 7 vs Seminole

nee's week zero overtime loss to Choctaw appeared to carry over to the 42-7 loss at Guthrie last Friday. The Wolves were without their starting running back/linebacker, Tre'Juan Shaw, against Guthrie. Quarterback Heath Hunter struggled to stay upright against Guthrie, yet managed a late touchdown to freshman receiver Jaylon Orange to avoid the shutout. Coach Billy Brown will use the bye week to prepare for a Carl Albert squad that snuck out a 28-21 victory over Midwest City last week.

8. McLoud (0-1) – The Redskins had their hands full with Meeker last week. The offense moved the ball fairly well but seven bad snaps and a total of 60 yards lost, didn't help against a Meeker squad that can run the ball and control the clock. Damien Dye carried the ball ten times for 77 yards and a score. It's only a matter of time before he breaks a few for big yardage and his ypc will go up even more. Coy Campbell caught two passes for touchdowns last week. Next Game: Sept. 7 vs. Bethel

9. Prague (0-1) – The Red Devils struggled with

Class A Cashion last Friday. The lone bright spot from the game was the 108-yard one touchdown performance from Brayden McGinnis. Jake Schultz was held to one reception for four yards. Schultz also sacked the quarterback. Next Game: Sept. 7 vs. Stroud

loss at home to Stroud, the Lions went on the road and handed out a 48-8 beat down to Oklahoma Centennial. In the win last week, four different Chandler running backs scored a touchdown. Dylan McKinney led the way with 106 yards and a score and Kobe Norton added two touchdowns on 11 carries. Darian Mahan and Chabon Anderson both had interceptions last week.

up 38 points in the loss to Tecumseh, coach Joey Ginn has to be pleased with the way his team played on the road. Bethel came up just short losing 38-35. The passing game was clicking as Gunner Smith threw for 285 yards and four scores. Bethel had two receivers over 100 yards and sophomore Drae Wood had three touchdowns.

Area teams resume action today By Adam Ewing

adam.ewing@news-star.com Twitter: @aethefranchise

Meeker (2-0) at Perry (2-0) – 7 p.m. The Bulldogs have the area's leading rusher, Caden Wolford, in the backfield and travel to Perry for a matchup between undefeated squads. Wolford has 357 yards and five scores in two games. Quarterback Jacob Martin averages 129.5 passing yards per game and has yet to throw a touchdown. However, he's found the end zone three times running the football. Meeker has two receivers with 100plus yards in Jarrett Marks (104) and Dawson Stanberry (102). Both receivers average over 20 yards per reception. Lane Brooks - Maud

Brayden McGinnis - Prague

Chandler (1-1) at Mount St. Mary (0-1) – 7 p.m.

Last week, Chandler coach Jack Gray picked up his first career win as the head coach of the Lions in a 48-8 win over Oklahoma Centennial. Chandler has the second-leading rusher in the area in Dylan McKinney and his 180 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore receiver Darian Mahan leads the team with 83 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Starting quarterback Chabon Anderson has eight total touchdowns (seven passing, one rushing).

Sasakwa (1-0) vs. Maud (1-0) – 7 p.m. The Tigers are fresh off a 50-0 performance against Bowlegs in the Highway 59 Bowl. Lane Brooks dominated both sides of the football in his first start as the starting quarterback. His six touchdowns (three passing, one rushing, two defensive) give him the most overall touchdowns in the area. Maud appeared to be fairly deep at running back with Brady Arms and freshman Dylan Armstrong both receiving significant carries. They didn't have any breakout performers from a yardage standpoint, but they had great field possession all game.

Stroud (2-0) vs. Prague (0-1) – 7 p.m. Prague struggled offensively in their 20-6 loss at the hands of Cashion last week. The Red Devils will use the back-to-back home stand as a morale boost with hopes of correcting their offensive woes. The lone bright spot for Prague was Brayden McGinnis' 108-yard one touchdown performance. It appears as though McGinnis will have to carry the load offensively until the passing game finds its rhythm. Stroud outscored their opponents 102-52 through the first two weeks.
