A SMACNA & SMART Collaboration

Northwest Sheet Metal, ECCO Supply, SMACNA-BC, and Local 280 worked together to make a new kitchen at Langley Meals on Wheels a dream come true for those who need it most.

By / Jessica Kirby  Photos courtesy of Langley Meals on Wheels In September 2021, Langley Meals on Wheels approached the Sheet Metal Workers Training Centre (SMWTC) hoping to secure a donation of three stainless steel prep tables for the organization’s new facility. Jeff Lind, business representative at Local 280, says the Local saw this as a great opportunity for SMACNA and the Local to promote the sheet metal trade while doing some good. “Among the many community partners, Langley Meals on Wheels has a strong relationship with school district 35 and Encompass,” he says. “Through trade discovery programs and job fairs within

the school district, we are hoping to find the next generation of sheet metal workers as they graduate high school.” SMACNA-BC and Local 280 met and decided to co-fund part of the project while reaching out to its members for help. Northwest Sheet Metal, ECCO Supply, Western Mechanical Services, and Air Systems Supply pitched in time and resources to make the project a success. Other SMACNA partners involved in this project include Boston Sheet Metal, Quest Metal Works, Piedmont Sheetmetal, Cascadia Metals, and 12 individual volunteers.
