Recreating the style of 90’s era focussing on hair and make up
BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL
For the majority of the decade, 1990s fashion in Europe, Oceania, Asia, and America
was defined by a return to minimalist fashion contrasted to the more elaborate and flashy trends of the 1980s. One notable shift in the western world was the mainstream adoption of tattoos, body piercings aside from ear piercing and to a lesser extent, other forms of body modification such as branding. In the early 1990s, several late 1980s fashions remained very stylish among both sexes. However, the popularity of grunge and alternative rock music helped bring the simple, unkempt grunge look into the mainstream by 1994. The anti-conformist approach to fashion led to the popularization of the casual chic look; this included T-shirts, jeans, hoodies, and sneakers. In mid-1992, grunge fashion broke into the mainstream for both sexes. For younger American, Australian and Latina women, grunge fashion consisted of flannel shirts, ripped jeans, mom jeans, Doc Martens, combat boots, band t-shirts, oversized knit sweaters, long and droopy skirts, ripped tights, Birkenstocks, hiking boots.
CONCEPT OF THE SHOOT In 1992, Grunge fashion broke into the mainstream for both sexes. It consisted of flannel shirts, ripped jeans, band t-shirts, crop tops, oversized knit sweater etc. Grunge was dressing down at its most extreme, taking casualness and comfort dressing to an entirely new level. Grunge can be seen as non-fashion. It was essentially a slovenly, thoughtlessness, uncoordinated look, but with an edge. Also on the other side, Versace ruled 90s. It became internationally renowned for ultra glamourous creations. Versace’s style combined luxurious classicism with overt sexuality. His sensational advertising campaigns featured super models such as Linda Evangelisa and Naomi Campbell. Since 90s had grunge and glamour, our shoot is an amalgamation of both. The clothing is grunge whereas hair and makeup has a touch of glamour with grunge.
INSPIRATION: NAOMI CAMPBELL
Make up The black lip liner is one of the most famous trends of 90s make up. It is unclear as to when and how this trend first hit the scene, but it was popularized by super model Naomi Campbell. The visible lip liner of Naomi is incorporated in the makeup, the liner look from 90s which is at least five shades darker than the chosen lip color. The glittery eyeshadow of 90s can be seen in the makeup, it adds glamour to the whole look.
Hair Unnaturally red colored hair of 90s is part of the look.90s supermodel beauty looks are always inspired by Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.
Location
Grunge was fueled more by self-expression- sadness, disenchantment, disconnectedness, loneliness, frustration and perhaps was an unintentional movement of sorts. Inspired from that the location is dirty, dark, filthy and unorganized (Junkyard).
Clothing Clothing is all grunge. Flannel shirt, crop top and leather jacket and sneakers are the major 90s trends added. Grunge look came from Seattle, there the temperatures can swing by 20 degrees in the same day, so it was convenient to have a wool long sleeved button down shirt that could be easily removed and tied around one’s waist. That element is added in the shoot.

Magazine Cover Photoshoot : Headgear Fortunate Rag Trade Concept Note : The cover shoot is inspired by the recent demonetisation in India. Because of the demonetisation, there will be increased tax revenue which will encourage the government to lower the high import duties and tariffs on goods of luxury brands. It can help the economy and industry in long term. Therefore the demonetisation comes as a fortunate blessing to the fashion industry in India. Rag Trade refers to fashion industry.
