Process Unit The variety of processes and industries that call for the services of chemical engineers is enormous. An economical method of organising much of the subject matter of chemical engineering is to break a process into units and steps called Process Unit. The individual process unit has common technology and are based on the same scientific principles. For the purposes of his module, the most common process units are:

Mixers F1

Mixer F2

Input streams are mixed in the mixer unit and there is only one outlet stream. Splitters

P2

The inlet and outlet streams have the same composition, phase and temperature.

Separators

P1 Separator

P2

Take a multi-component mixture (F) and treat it in such a way to produce a number of streams of different composition and phase (P1 and P2). Separators split and change the composition.

Reactors

(a) Continuous: Total mass rate is constant in time and chemical composition changes (b) Batch: Mass is constant in time and Chemical composition changes
