The Village Bike By Penelope Skinner Thu 13 September – Sat 6 October ‘No it’s totally fine I was probably just riding her a bit hard. She needs a bit of tinkering. Maybe get your husband to have a go.’ Becky’s frustrated. She’s pregnant, horny as hell and she’d love a glass of wine – or three. But her husband’s been reading The New Pregnancy Ideal and isn’t having any of it, so she takes matters into her own hands. Written by Penelope Skinner and directed by Happy Days director, Jonathan Humphreys, The Village Bike is a daring and hilarious play about moving to the countryside, making babies and sorting out a plumber. Contains adult content and scenes of a sexual nature.

Northern Ballet

Madame Butterfly Tue 18 – Sat 22 September Northern Ballet make a welcome return to the Lyceum Theatre with their much–loved production of Madame Butterfly. Innocence, love and betrayal unfold in the picturesque gardens of a Japanese house. Butterfly is fragile, unworldly, and prepared to sacrifice everything for the love of the handsome American, Lieutenant Pinkerton. He deserts her only to return years later with his new wife. Abandoned and betrayed, Butterfly is left with only one honourable course of action. East meets West as Northern Ballet blend classical ballet with Japanese–inspired dancing, alongside Puccini’s beautiful score played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia. ‘Simply stunning’ ★★★★★ Metro ‘Thanks in part to Northern Ballet, no wonder we are the dance envy of Europe, if not the Western World’ ★★★★ Sunday Express

Mon 24 – Sat 29 September ‘Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery… all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts’. So begins the international award–winning musical, Chicago. Based on real life events back in the roaring 1920s, nightclub singer Roxie Hart shoots her lover and, together with Cell Block rival, double–murderess Velma Kelly, fights to keep herself from death row with the help of smooth talking lawyer, Billy Flynn. Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, Chicago’s sexy, sassy score includes All That Jazz and Razzle Dazzle. With six Tony, two Olivier, one Grammy, two Bafta and six Academy Awards, Chicago truly is ‘The sharpest, slickest show on the block’ The Times. It would be a crime to miss it.

An Evening with Jack Dee

Mon 8 – Tue 9 October 8.00pm

Wed 10 October 8.00pm

The Boy with Tape on His Face: More Tape

Catch Jack as he hits the road for his 2012 tour. After a six year absence from stand–up, he’s back, agonising over the slightest of annoyances and misdemeanors. Where’s he been? Appearing on shows like QI, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, 8 out of 10 Cats and Have I Got News For You; hosting Radio 4’s legendary I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue, co–writing and starring in four series of BBC 2’s hit sitcom Lead Balloon and writing his memoirs, Thanks For Nothing which he modestly dedicated to himself, ‘Without whom none of this would have been possible’. Why is he touring again? ‘I want to spend less time with my family’ says Jack. ‘A little ray of sleet’Jeremy Hardy ‘… turns grumpiness into an art form’ Evening Standard

Bravo Figaro!

After walking the wall in the West Bank, becoming Guinness World Record holder for political protests and chasing arms dealers around the country, Mark Thomas turns his attention to matters closer to home with a show about his father. First commissioned by the Royal Opera house, Bravo Figaro! is the true tale of a self–employed builder’s love of opera, degenerative illness and how to put opera on in a bungalow in Bournemouth. It is about love, death and the search for peace in an imperfect world with some gags thrown in for luck, told by one of the finest storytellers in the country. ‘nothing short of astounding’ chortle.co.uk

Thu 11 October 8.00pm A brand new show from The Boy. As seen on The Royal Variety Performance 2011, ITV1’s Comedy Rocks and BBC2’s Comedy Prom with Tim Minchin. Mime with noise. Stand–up with no talking. Drama with no acting. This boy has to be seen to be believed. What does he do? The less you know, the more you will enjoy! But if you must know, he will have a gunfight, battle Darth Vader and bring John Lennon back to life.

Forced Entertainment

Farm Boy

Wed 24 October 7.45pm

Adapted and directed by Daniel Buckroyd

In this new work international innovators Forced Entertainment tangle and cross–cut multiple stories to make a compelling and unstable performance. From love and death to sex and laundry, from shipwrecks to falling snow, personal anecdotes rub shoulders with imaginary movies, and half–remembered novels bump into distorted fairytales.

Tue 23 October 7.00pm It sometimes felt as though time had stood still on the family farm – swallows nesting in the eaves, the old Fordson Tractor quietly rusting in the back of the barn, Grandpa still tending his chickens. That is, until the summer his grandson finished school and came to stay, and the old man started telling stories of what it had been like on the farm when he was a boy. This compelling sequel to the award–winning War Horse is a delightful tale that combines drama, storytelling and original music. ‘War Horse sequel ploughs a rich furrow’ ★★★★ Daily Mail £12.00 Concessions £2.00 off School discounts apply

The Vagina Monologues

The Coming Storm

Tue 30 October 7.45pm Eve Ensler’s hilarious Broadway and West End smash hit, The Vagina Monologues is back, starring TV favourites Clare Buckfield (Dancing on Ice, Two Point Four Children) and Vicky Entwhistle (Coronation Street) and making her stage debut, Chelsee Healey (Strictly Come Dancing, Waterloo Road). An unmissable show for every generation, bring your mum, your best friend, your sister or even your gran. This is the ultimate girls night out, trust us!

Using a method as inventive as it is absurd, six performers create, collaborate, ambush and disrupt this epic saga that is resolutely too big for the stage. The result is comical, contradictory and poignant. The Coming Storm is Forced Entertainment at its best – trademark black humour, a collage of arresting images and an anarchic performance style.

The Vagina Monologues donates a percentage of revenue from ticket sales to V–Day benefiting women’s charities across the world. ‘Laugh out loud FUNNY’ The Independent ‘Heart–stoppingly powerful’ The Scotsman
