Million Dollar Quartet

The Wipers Times

Lyceum Theatre

By Ian Hislop and Nick Newman

Thu 3 – Sat 5 November The true and extraordinary story of the satirical newspaper created in the mud and mayhem of the Somme, interspersed with comic sketches and spoofs from the vivid imagination of those on the front line. In a bombed out building during the First World War in the French town of Ypres (mis-pronounced Wipers by British soldiers), two officers discover a printing press and create a newspaper for the troops. Far from being a sombre journal about life in the trenches, they produced a resolutely cheerful, subversive and very funny newspaper designed to lift the spirits of the men on the front line. A stage adaptation of the award-winning BBC film by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman ‘A wonderful tale waiting to be retold’ Daily Mail ‘Laugh out loud funny’ The Times

Thu 10 November 7.30pm

‘We’re losers. Nobodies. Carry on like this, we’re losers forever. And we don’t have to be. Fresh start, two months to completely one hundred per cent reinvent ourselves.’

Jon Ronson recounts the adventure of a lifetime - the funny, terrifying and utterly compelling adventure that led to his bestselling book The Psychopath Test.

Megan, Holly and Ben are definitely not the cool kids. But Megan has a plan. One long summer holiday to change their lives. One sure path to coolness. One amazing transformation, through the power of song.

Is it true that psychopaths rule the world? Or have we gone labelling crazy?

Paines Plough and Live Theatre present

Holed up in Megan’s garden shed, three old friends try to change their fortunes in a beautiful, heart-warming, laugh-out-loud coming-of-age story for our times. Rock on. ‘Wells has given us another winner… Unreservedly recommended’ Independent on Jumpers for Goalposts (2013) ★★★★★
