The ultimate heroine, Jane Eyre’s journey to overcome the odds is one of literature’s finest love stories. Orphaned at a young age and cruelly treated by her Aunt, Jane Eyre grows up knowing little kindness. She accepts a position as Governess at Thornfield Hall, owned by the mysterious and brooding Mr Rochester. In spite of their social differences, an unlikely bond grows between them but as their romance develops, it becomes clear that Rochester has a hidden past that threatens to ruin them both. With choreography by Cathy Marston, and music played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia, Northern Ballet’s brilliant dance actors will bring this tale of romance, jealousy and dark secrets to life. Il tabarro/Gianni Schicchi By Puccini Sat 12 May 7.45pm Puccini’s one-act operas Il tabarro and Gianni Schicchi could hardly be more different: one is a moody romance ending in a grotesque murder on a barge in Paris, and the other is a sparkling comedy about a family inheritance in Florence. Fleabag may seem over-sexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig themed café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose. Stumbling through a maze of social anxiety, disastrous job interviews and meaningless sex, Fleabag serves up an uproariously funny and true account of some sort of a female living her sort of life. ‘Sucker punch funny…I’ve never seen a play quite like it.’ The Scotsman ★★★★★

New Roots
Launch Pad
We are developing two projects which give young people who don’t usually engage with us a chance to create theatre and experience the work on our stages.
A project for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities and/or Autism.
We’re particularly interested in reaching Black and Minority Ethnic communities and people from working class backgrounds.
The workshops run weekly from Thu 8 February – Thu 15 March, before starting again on Thu 12 April and running weekly until the performance in our Studio Theatre on Tue 19 June.
Over the next six months, young people will work with professional artists to produce and perform a play, exploring politics and social issues, that premières here in Sheffield. Participants will work with professional designers, lighting designers, sound designers and composers, to gain an insight into all that goes on behind the scenes too.
Work with theatre professionals over a number of weeks to learn and develop skills in theatre, culminating in a performance.
To find out more about how to audition visit sheffieldtheatres.co.uk/learning alternatively contact Elin at e.schofield@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk or phone 0114 201 3858. The audition workshops will take place on Wed 17 and Thu 18 January.
Because there are often stereotypes around what theatre is and who it is for, our Associate Director, Javaad Alipoor, will be delivering some taster workshops to schools and community groups in the autumn term. These are completely free for partner organisations, and include exercises about political and social debate, improvising and storytelling. If you are interested in becoming a partner organisation or you’re an individual who’d like to find out more, contact Georgina at g.stone@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk for further information.
National Theatre Connections In Spring 2018 Sheffield People’s Theatre Young Company (13 - 19) will perform a play commissioned by the National Theatre.
