In January, we were delighted to be awarded the prestigious Stage 100 Regional Theatre of the Year Award. The award was the culmination of an outstanding year for us. We’re proud to be recognised for the contribution that we make to the creative life of our city, the region and on a national scale. During 2012 we staged a major season celebrating the work of Michael Frayn, the production of Democracy later transferring to the Old Vic and Aidan McArdle being awarded a Theatre UK Award for Best Supporting Performance. We produced the first major production of A Taste of Honey since author Shelagh Delaney’s death; collaborated with the Bush Theatre on the world première of DC Moore’s Straight (which also transferred to the Bush Theatre following its run in Sheffield) and ended the year with the hugely successful production of My Fair Lady. This year, we’re looking forward to enjoying more bold, exciting work with our audiences across all three of our stages.

Neville’s Island by Tim Firth Mon 24 June A work’s team-building exercise goes horribly wrong when four men are stranded on an island in the middle of the Lake District. Funny, alarming and poignant.

Take the Stage April – June A creative team from Sheffield Theatres will support local primary and secondary schools (Year 5 to Year 12) to rehearse and perform specially-chosen plays for the Crucible stage. Schools will be supported by professionals at Sheffield Theatres in direction, performance skill development and production elements. The rehearsal process will start from April and continue through to the performance in June. Throughout the project we will also be working with a professional theatre designer who will transform our stage for this one-off production by local young people.

A one off performance of Voices in the Square will take place on Fri 10 May at 1.30pm in Tudor Square. Entry is free.
