Sheffield Doc/Fest 2016

Welcome 2

Welcome to your Festival...

Festival Programme

It’s the 23rd Sheffield Doc/Fest and my first as Festival Director.

In our Opening Night Film Where to Invade Next, activist and director Michael Moore has a loud laugh at the social ills of his homeland USA. But his film also shows the power of documentary to shine a spotlight on human behaviour and inspire change. As we countdown to the US elections, see Michael both at his film’s premiere on Friday night and at the C4 interview on Sunday 12 June. Sheffield will be bristling with star appeal: Joanna Lumley; Ken Loach; Louis Theroux; Freddie Flintoff talks Freddie Fries Under; and Crucible legend Ronnie O’Sullivan reveals the documentaries that have inspired his world class snooker game. Immerse yourself in interactive and virtual reality in our Alternate Realities programme, including a focus on artificial intelligence.

The Awards ceremony is the evening of Tuesday 14 June; it will be great to see you there. We’re thrilled to honour a Sheffield film-lover with our new Dr Clifford Shaw Feature Doc Audience Award supported by Curzon Home Cinema. Come and vote for your favourite Festival film.

Welcome to Sheffield Doc/Fest

It’s great to be in Sheffield, to welcome so many of you back and to see so many new Festival goers. We’re excited to have created a dynamic and inspiring Festival for you.

For our grand finale, we’re thrilled to welcome Tilda Swinton to Sheffield to talk about Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger, our Closing Night Film on Wednesday 15 June. Here’s to a great Doc/Fest adventure.
