This act also protects employees in their workplaces.

Direct and Indirect Discrimination Direct discrimination occurs when people are treated unequally in a similar condition due to their gender identity or sexual orientation. For instance, it can be direct sexual orientation discrimination for an employer to promote a male employee because he is straight while other is bisexual or gay. Indirect discrimination can happen when service providers or employers put requirements, conditions, or practices in place that appear to treat everyone the same while some disadvantage some people due to their gender identity, sexual orientation, or relationship status. An unreasonable condition or requirement can be unlawful discrimination. Employers should be responsible for taking reasonable steps and preventing harassment and discrimination.
