EDITOR LETTER FROM THE
I can still remember attending the SHEI mass meeting my freshman year. More accurately, I can remember bounding out of Angell Hall, on the phone with my mom in a state of simultaneous excitement and fear; excitement to have found something I was prepared to put my all into, and fear that I wouldn’t be good enough.
Stepping into the position of Editor in Chief, I think I felt much the same way. There has never been a moment when I wasn’t in awe of all that we have done and are capable of doing as a magazine, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to help us realize this full potential. But after beginning to work closely with the rest of the board, I realized something very im portant about what we do in this student organization: more than create art and tell stories, we learn from each other, get better together and open up each other’s worlds.
Even in this short amount of time we’ve been working side by side, ev eryone has shown me so much about the things they love. We’ve passed around ideas not like a delicate glass thing, but something durable and malleable that’s made better and better the more hands it’s been held by. We learn from each other and work together, and it’s only through this collaboration that we’re able to create something beautiful.
And this collaboration is something we as a board want to strength en in SHEI as a whole. This year we’ve taken on two important goals: the first is to create spaces and opportunities for people of different teams and disciplines to work together and learn from one another. The other is to strengthen our SHEI community with more social activities and events within and across teams. Our hope is that everyone can feel the benefit of creating in a collaborative environment, and be able to look proudly on what we’ve made together.
SHEI means so much to me, and it’s an incredible privilege to be able to serve this organization in this position. I can’t wait to work with everyone on business and editorial boards to make SHEI all that it can be this year!
Now, let’s get to work.
Melina Schaefer Editor-In-Chief
