Lifetime Achievement Award Winner: Suay Umut This award is made to a Turkish individual with a long record of contribution to the Turkish Shipping Industry. Suay Umut is the founder and chairman of the Dünya Shipping Group and has devoted more than 50 years to the maritime industry in Turkey. After a successful career with Petrol Ofisi where he was President of the company’s Commercial Section, Suay Umut moved to London and, equipped with the advantage of his knowledge of the Turkish oil market and shipping sector, he founded the Ganmount group of companies in 1973. After successfully operating these companies for 25 years, Suay Umut decided to concentrate on shipowning, mainly seagoing tanker operations and planned his return to Turkey. Last year he persuaded Intertanko to hold its annual tanker event in Istanbul to further promote Turkey to global shipping. LLOYD’S LIST TURKISH SHIPPING AWARDS WINNERS 2009
