SHELBURNE FARMS Annual Financial Report
2
“As the pandemic strips everything down to the essentials, the idea behind Shelburne Farms is more important than ever: that through education, our society can—and must—find a path toward a sustainable future.”
3
Dear Friend of the Farm, We are sharing our financial report from 2019 at a time when the current year looks considerably different. The good news within these pages is that we have a strong foundation to build on in the face of the enormous operational and financial challenges the Farm is experiencing in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Shelburne Farms was formed as a nonprofit in 1972 to address local and global environmental and social issues. As the pandemic strips everything down to the essentials, the idea behind the nonprofit is more important than ever: that through education, our society can —and must—find a path toward a sustainable future. Following our strategic priorities and building on decades of offering programs for educators and school children we are working to find new ways of deepening and extending our educational impact. Shelburne Farms’ financial viability has always rested on the strength and generosity of its community--the people like you who donate, visit, stay, dine, volunteer, or purchase our cheddar and maple syrup year after year. Whatever aspect you love and appreciate about our programs or Shelburne Farms as an extraordinary place and cultural resource, we are so grateful to you for your encouragement and support. Our revenue streams are as diverse as the learning opportunities we offer, and in diversity lies strength and resiliency. Every revenue generating decision is carefully considered to advance our mission while keeping long-term social and financial benefits in mind. Thank you for your trust in our commitment to deliver the greatest possible educational impact and social benefit for every dollar we receive. The pandemic crisis recommits us to our mission to inspire and cultivate learning for a sustainable future and our vision of a healthy and just world rooted in stewardship and community. To the extent possible, we see this time as an opportunity to deepen and transform our work. You make it all possible! Thank you so much.

The Shelburne Farms Legacy Circle The Shelburne Farms Legacy Circle recognizes and celebrates those who have included the Farm in their estate plans. It also honors the vision and generosity of Derick Webb who, through a generous bequest in 1984, contributed the property to the nonprofit educational organization that owns it today. If you have included Shelburne Farms in your estate plans, a trust, or other financial arrangement, we would love to hear from you and add you as a member of our Legacy Circle!

COVER: “What world do YOU want in 2030?” A student responds to this group prompt at the Cultivating Pathways to Sustainability program, which kicks off at the Coach Barn each fall. The program challenges students to develop action projects in their own communities to help achieve a UN Sustainable Development Goal that they’re passionate about. How might you answer the question prompt?
