Career Corps 2022 Update The 2022 Career Corps Summer program, launched in June, provides paid internships to Shelby County K-12 educators who wish to learn real world work experiences and showcase the variety of career pathways that exist throughout Shelby County for students. It also provides a correlation between subject matter taught and today’s workplace by placing educators with business and industry hosts. This immersive experience gives participating educators an opportunity to better understand the workplace for which they are preparing students.

On August 3, the Chelsea Business Alliance will host their monthly luncheon at the Chelsea Community Center. Doors open at 11:30AM for business networking with the luncheon starting at Noon. August “Chamber Connections Luncheon”: Where Have All the Workers Gone? The August 4 “Chamber Connections Luncheon” will feature a presentation “Where Have all the Workers Gone?” The program is from 11:30AM – 1:00PM and will be held at the Grande Hall, 105 West College Street, Columbiana. The presentation featuring the team from Express Employment Professionals Will include

various reasons for the labor shortage and what potential employees and workers want – as well as what employers can do about it. The investment, which includes lunch, is $20 per person for Chamber investors and $30 for “Future” investors. To ensure proper planning for this event, please RSVP by no later than August 2.

Topics discussed include: marketing & selling your idea/product, finding funding, Finding people, finding mentors and much more. The program is scheduled for 11:30AM - 1:00PM at the Pelham Shelby County Services

reer Readiness Work Group. The Community Luncheon will be held on August 31 in the banquet hall at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena. Doors will open at 11:00AM for business networking including showcase tables and the program will begin promptly at 11:30AM.

Nominations for the 2022 Shelby County Tourism & Recreation Awards are now being accepted. The deadline for nominations is September 9. This year’s program – co-hosted by Calera Main Street, Chelsea Business Alliance, Columbiana Main Street, Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, Montevallo Main Street or The Shelby County Chamber – will recognize the “best of the best” for their daily contributions to Shelby County tourism and recreation. Nominations are open to the public. The nominee, or the person submitting the nomination, does not have to be a participating organization with any of the host organizations.

Nominees will be judged on both the quality and quantity of materials used to substantiate the award nomination. Self-nominations are accepted. In order to qualify, the nominated organization should be engaged in tourism or recreation, and meets any one of the following: uoperates in Shelby County, uhas a Shelby County business license uis a participating organization with any of the following: Calera Main Street, Chelsea Business Alliance, Columbiana Main Street, Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, Montevallo Main Street or The Shelby County Chamber.
