Chamber’s 2015 Montgomery Drive-In To Be Held April 14 The Chamber’s 2015 Montgomery Drive-In, sponsored by AT&T Alabama, will be held April 14 at various locations in our state capitol. The Drive-In event is a product of the Chamber’s ShelbyOne initiative and will include: transportation to and from Montgomery, a luncheon with our Shelby County Legislative Delegation, presentations
from various Alabama state departmental heads and agency directors and a legislative reception in conjunction with the Business Council of Alabama. How to Combat Spring Allergies Spring is coming! Along with the much anticipated warmer weather, comes the dreaded pollen. Seasonal allergies affect over 35 million people in the US, and Alabama allergy sufferers know that springtime can be the worst. Allergies can have a significant effect on daily living. Symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny and stuffy nose, and watery eyes are all too common. So what can you do about it? Follow these simple steps to limit pollen exposure and consider seeing an allergist/ immunologist to come up with the best treatment plan. • Keep windows closed and use air conditioning to filter the air. • Postpone outdoor activities until later. Pollen is emitted between 5-10 AM. • Stay indoors when the pollen levels are high.
• Stay indoors on hot, dry, and windy days. • Don’t hang your laundry out to dry. • Shower and wash your hair every night before going to bed. • Wash pets and vacuum often. • Monitor pollen levels from the National Allergy Bureau at www.alabamaallergy.com. • Most importantly, be sure to take any medications prescribed by your allergist.
• In the car, keep windows up and use the recycle button for the AC.

March Community Luncheon to Recognize 2013-2014 Student & Educator of the Year The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Educator of the Year recognition program. Educators play a vital role in the lives of Shelby County children, impact our communities every day and help develop the workforce which our Shelby County businesses and organizations will need in the years ahead.

As such, the Chamber launched this recognition program to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and inform our community of the exceptional quality of instruction delivered throughout Shelby County. All nominees will
be recognized and two recipients (elementary and secondary educator) will receive a one-time financial investment to assist their continuing development. Also, the Chamber is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Student of the Year recognition program. Shelby County students are our potential business and community leaders and will comprise a significant portion of our workforce in the future. As such, the Chamber launched this recognition program to celebrate student excellence in the classroom throughout Shelby County. All nominees will be recognized and two recipients (college track and career track student) will receive a one-time financial investment to assist their continuing
development. The Chamber will recognize all of nominations and announce the recipients at the April 29 membership luncheon which is sponsored by America’s First Federal Credit Union. Ambassador of the Month Congratulations to Kimberly Kielbasa for earning Ambassador of the Month. Kim is the Marketing/ Catering Coordinator for Chubb’s Grub Station. When given the opportunity to be a part of the Chubb’s Grubb Station family she was thrilled. The skills and talents that owners Will and Stephanie Cholewinski share with their team and patrons of the restaurant is above and beyond measure. Chubb’s Grubb Station supports their staff with the warmth and sense of family. Chubb’s Grub also believes in giving back to the community it serves, which fits Kim’s beliefs perfectly. Organizations such as The Arc of Shelby County/ Project SEARCH, Manna Charities and various local school academic and sports programs have benefited from its outreach. Chubb’s Grub has also been recognized for its incredible burgers and Po-boys, as well as the fried pickles and green tomatoes, but don’t forget the made from scratch sauces. They have recently expanded the catering menu “Catering by Will”, which is a menu a bit different from the restaurant but with the same rule ... everything fresh never frozen and made to fit your special event! Kim is originally from
Chicago and moved to Alabaster 11 years ago with her family and immediately felt welcomed and at home! Daughter, Kristin, is a graduate of Thompson High School and the University of Alabama.
