Hoover’s residential housing growth came at a time largely prior to sidewalks. Since that time, the city has made great strides to retrofit many of our residential streets with a more pedestrian friendly atmosphere. Being an avid marathoner, I believe the best way to see and truly experience a city is on foot.

La Fiesta

Hoover’s diverse food scene is reflective of the many cultures and nationalities that exist in our city. Our family enjoys them all, but our “go to” is La Fiesta. Tucked away in the Hoover Court just off Hwy 31 in the Green Valley area, La Fiesta has been owned and operated by the Perez family for 35 years. The Perez family are some of Hoover’s best corporate and community citizens, having raised their families and maintained their successful business here.

Hoover Metro Kiwanis Club

The Hoover Metro Kiwanis Club was my first introduction to community service in the Hoover area. I have been an active member since 1999. Founded in 1978, our club exists to support children’s causes in and around Hoover. We meet at IHOP on Hwy 150 on Friday mornings at 7 a.m.

Hoover Historical Society

I periodically have the opportunity to drive a city bus for a tour group led by Hoover Historical Society’s Jim Langley. We spend a day driving through the city and visiting many of our historical areas, properties and businesses. We learn about Hoover’s founding, original businesses and homesteads, and my favorite named bygone establishment, “The Linger Longer Lodge.”

The Works of Daniel A. Moore

I have collected Daniel A. Moore’s art for several decades. Daniel’s studio, New Life Art, which is located on Lorna Ridge Drive, houses many of his original works. I first visited Danny and New Life as a small child, and I’ve been stopping by to enjoy his work and his company ever since.
