You have successfully reached High School graduation, a major milestone in your life. I’m certain this a something you have eagerly anticipated for quite a while. This occasion is more than just significant. It’s a testament to all of the hard work it took to get where you are today. Congratulations!
As you take this giant step, I encourage you to never forget this day and where you came from. Also, you should never forget those who helped you along your academic journey; your family, teachers, friends, and a community that has cheered you on all the way.
We are proud of you and all you have accomplished. I encourage you to never stop growing, learning, and exploring. Yes, you will face many challenges. But you must remember, it is the challenges we overcome that make us strong.
Congratulations graduates. It’s a great day to be a Panther!
6:
Every year, this moment brings a bittersweet feeling to many of us.
Following years of hard work, the moment has finally arrived for the class of 2023 to put on their caps and gowns, walk across the stage in front of family, friends and loved ones to grab their diploma and flip their tassels before giving their cap a toss in the air in celebration.
From sports to band to educational achievements to serving in special organizations as young leaders, each student has had an impact over the last four years.
It has been amazing to see firsthand the impact that many of our young people in this year’s graduating class have had, not only through their individual accomplishments, but through the way they have led others.
Sure, they will go on to be successful, but one of the aspects that has stuck out the most about this group of students is how they have left their schools in even better shape by setting the foundation for future classes.
Freshmen when COVID struck, this group was the first one to go through a shift in the education system for four years, but it didn’t set them back; instead, they persevered, and it has paved the way for their future and the future of the students coming up behind them.
The least we can do is celebrate them in this special graduation magazine, which honors every graduating senior in Shelby County, all valedictorians and other leaders in each of the schools.
In addition to that, this special publication features a special letter from each school leader to their graduating class as they get set to embark on their next journey in life.
13:
As each of you prepares to take this next step, don’t simply sprint away, but walk steadily into the future, carrying the memories and lessons you have gained over the last four years with you.
If you do, each of you has the potential to make a difference and chase whatever dream you have in mind.
Congratulations class of 2023! Continue to be great leaders who make a difference.

Briarwood High School senior Taylor Smith said her time in school has been filled with many memories, mostly surrounded by her teammates on the basketball team.
“My favorite memories from my junior and senior year of basketball when I made so many unforgettable memories with my best friends,” Smith said. “Another highlight was having my dad as my history teacher in seventh and eighth grade.”
During her time at Briarwood, Smith has been a part of the basketball team; the volleyball team from seventh to ninth grade; the National Art Honors Society and she also helps assist Coach Forster in making some of the graphics for the school’s athletics page.

A typical day for Smith consists of going to classes, having lunch with her friends and then going to some sort of basketball practice or to workout after school. Some days, Smith said she also goes to work after school as well.
A favorite part of her time during high school was attending the football games in fun costumes.
Some study habits that she has developed during her time as a student include rewriting her notes and then rewriting them again on notecards so
she can later quiz herself. Her favorite subject is history because in seventh grade her dad was her teacher and helped inspire her to have a passion for it.
Smith describes her dad and Coach Kerley and Coach Wilson at Briarwood as having big influences on her during her time in school.
“Coach Kerley or Coach Wilson were my coaches every year since eighth grade and they are a huge reason why I am where I am today,” Smith said. “My dad taught me in the

Smith said she hopes to remember her time at Briarwood as a time where all of the teachers and coaches she came into contact with had an impact on her.
“I also hope to remember the importance of how important it is to have a strong relationship with my Lord and savior,” Smith said.
After graduation, Smith plans to go to Lagrange, Georgia and attend Lagrange College playing on the basketball team. She will major in film studies and work toward getting into filmmaking and becoming a director one day.

For Chelsea High School senior Ella Hillman, walking inside the high school building prior to freshman year to try out for the Stingettes dance team was the beginning of an unforgettable high school journey.
“Since that time, I have made plenty of memories within the building and out on the football field,” Hillman said. “I have spent much of my time at Chelsea taking honors and AP courses, where I have had the opportunity to work with and befriend many intelligent and inspiring classmates. I have participated in several extracurricular activities through Chelsea such as Ambassadors and Key Club. Although senior year has technically been my only high school year not severely impacted by Covid, I like to think that this school year has made up for at least some of the time lost. Some of my favorite moments at Chelsea have been homecoming weeks, Senior Sunrise and traveling to Costa Rica with other students.”
Throughout her time at CHS, Hillman has been involved with the Stingettes where she has stayed on the team for all four years of high school; she has served as a member of the Advanced Math

One of her favorite moments of high school involves spending Friday nights cheer-

ing on her school’s football team with the Stingettes. “We got to dance in the stands and on the field, meet other bands, and be as loud as possible in the band section,” Hillman said. “It was always an amazing way to kick off each weekend and show our school spirit.”
Academically, a key to her success in high school was making a to-do list every day, doing almost every extra credit assignment given to her, re-reading all of her essays multiple times and studying for 50 minutes straight with zero distractions and then taking 10 minutes off with no phone or reading material. Her favorite subjects were both math and English.
“I love math because I think it is very satisfying to problem-solve and try many methods until you can find the correct, precise answer,” Hillman said. “I love English because I have always enjoyed reading

and analyzing the words of others and I enjoy expressing creativity through writing.”
A special memory attributed to her time at CHS involves a trip she took to Costa Rica with the school.
“I was taking French at the time, but I knew the Spanish teacher taking the trip (Mrs. Bizjak) because she is the sponsor of the Chelsea Ambassadors program,” Hillman said. “I went with a few other students from Chelsea, including one of my closest friends at the time and a few other students who I did not know well. Costa Rica was absolutely incredible, but even more than the beauty of the place itself, I remember the special memories and relationships I formed with my travel buddies.”
Hillman said she hopes to always remember that there is beauty in trying new things, meeting new people and taking opportunities that may seem scary.
After graduating, Hillman hopes to attend the University of Alabama in the fall where she will major in Political Science.
She plans to pursue an accelerated masters program so that she will graduate with both her undergraduate and masters degree.

I am so proud of who you have all become! You have grown in stature and in wisdom, and you have been a delightful group of students, despite the weird circumstances of your high school years.
The world you are entering is vastly different from the world that previous graduates have entered, but you are well aware of what lies ahead. Everything in your lives has been leading you to this point at this time, and God has a plan for you unlike any other generation has had.
Your families, your churches, and your school have been pouring into you information

and experiences that at times might have overwhelmed you. With so little time to make an impression, we have pushed you hard, I know. At times you might have wondered why we were being so hard on you, but now I think you understand that everything had a purpose.
As you leave the safety and comfort of home and school, take with you all the assurances that might have seemed unnecessary at the time. Remember to practice faith, not fear; remember that God is with you; remember that God has a plan for you;
and most importantly, remember that there is nothing bad that happens that cannot be used for good by God if you remain obedient and seek His will.
You are ready to tackle college or career. You have the head knowledge that will lead you to success, and I look forward to seeing how you will thrive. But do not forget to take the spiritual wisdom that has been shared with you as well. In your darkest days, this wisdom will be the comfort that will give you hope and keep you moving forward.
It is so hard to believe that you are leaving Cornerstone. This class has been through difficult days, but you have demonstrated strength, resilience, and resolve. Build on what you know and you will be successful in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue.
In His Service,
Margaret Pickett Director,Cornerstone Christian School
Cornerstone Christian School senior Noah Preston said being crowned as prom king was a special moment for him.
“That was the moment I knew I had made it,” Preston said.
The CCS student was at Cornerstone for the second-half of his eighth grade year before changing to homeschool. Preston returned to the school for his senior year and said he is thankful for the time at the school.
“My time at Cornerstone has been zero to hero as I started as sort of a hermit/ outcast,” Preston said. “I have ended as king of the senior
prom and a friend to all.”
During his time in school he has been involved in Backpack Buddies, Scholars Bowl and he was just recently inducted into Senior Beta.
His favorite subject is science as he enjoys seeing the truth of the universe and the beauty of God’s creation.
“It has to be the most fasci-
nating thing to learn about,” Preston said. A study habit that has helped Preston during his time in school is flashcards.
“Flashcards are the biggest
help you could ever have for studying,” Preston said. “Have someone quiz you with them, or go over them alone in your free time. They certainly make
a difference.”
A person who had a big impact on Preston during his time in school was his aunt, Anna Hicks.
“I remember many countless nights she helped me study for tests and exams late in the night, she took time out of her day to help me with homework that made no sense,” Preston said. “ I owe it all to her.”
Preston said he hopes to remember the unbelievable times he had in high school and the amazing friends he made along the way.
After graduation, he plans to obtain a doctorate of physical therapy and eventually move to the beach.

We congratulate the ECCS class of 2023. We are so proud of the fine young women and men that you have become. We are confident that your time at ECCS has prepared you for the new challenges that you will face.
As you part ways to pursue different paths, we pray that you will be reminded of the words of Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
No matter where you go or what you choose to do, Christ will be with you, leading you, prospering you, strengthening you, and using you to build His kingdom.
Be amazed at the great plans He has for your life and rest in the assurance the He will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).
We love you, ECCS class of 2023, and we will be praying for you.

As one of the top eight seniors at Helena High School, Rodney Ross finished as the school’s salutatorian, bringing to an end a special four years of high school for the senior.
Ross said he is going to miss his time at the high school, especially the friends that he has made over the last 12 years, as well as the memories made with his teachers and classmates.
One of those memories came this spring when he was named the school’s homecoming king, a memory that was one of his favorite while at Helena.
“What makes Helena special is the community here,” Ross said. “It feels like there are so many ways to get involved, and I think that’s important for a school to have.”
He said being involved is something that can really make your time in school so much better, and it’s a part of the last four years he looks back on fondly.
“Make the most out of your
body since COVID.
time in school,” he said. “Get involved in clubs, go to the dances, go hang out with your friends. You only get four years in high school, and it is what you make of it. Now is the time to explore different avenues and find hobbies that you enjoy.”
Now, Ross is set to attend Auburn University where he’ll major in the challenging field
You all have a special place in my heart because you are the first graduating class that includes students from my time at Helena Middle School.
When I started as principal and saw some of you walking the halls, it amazed me at how much you had grown up. I remember so many of you as eighth grade students and now you are seniors, getting ready to graduate and enter a new phase of your life.
I am so very proud of the people you have become. I want to thank you for the leadership you have shown this year and commend you for the job you all have done rebuilding and uniting the student
I met with a variety of students and leadership groups throughout the year about ways to improve student participation, increase morale, and start new traditions. Take pride in the work you´ve done.
I truly enjoyed getting to speak with all of you and watch what you have been able to accomplish and your commitment to doing it. I believe not only have you set a great example and high mark for those following behind you but you have left your legacy. You all saw the challenge before you post-COVID and embraced it and decided to push forward.
I do hope that you have fond memories of not only Helena High School but of
of engineering, geared toward either aerospace engineering or software engineering.
Still, he feels prepared, largely because of lessons taught by his teachers and the staff at HHS, including Michele Justement, who he said had a big influence on his time.
“Her class was tough, but I feel like it really prepared me for college and made me a better student,” he said.
Ross said he is looking forward to the freedom college offers and he’s excited for what he still has left to learn.
everything that led you to this point. All of the roadblocks, challenges, and open doors have gotten you to this point and I know you are prepared for the next stage in your life.
Do not forget your time at Helena High School and know you are always welcome to come back home. Several of you have told me that you love our school because you feel accepted by your peers and your teachers. I hope you always remember that you are cared for and loved. We are rooting for you to go and do something great.
Ashley Bahr Principal, Helena High SchoolAnchors provide a firm foundation and a grounded way of life as we travel through our everyday life. Watch out for anchors that don’t provide stability for living a Christlike life in a world that has shifting sands: anchors like money, plans, possessions, success.
When you think of an anchor, you usually picture the heavy object that’s tied to a ship that keeps it secure to the bottom of the sea.
An anchor is something that provides a firm foundation and security. In Scripture, the term anchor is use metaphorically to represent GOD and faith – that which keeps us steadfast and gives us
hope during the trials and storms of life.
You are a chosen generation to stand firm when the world feels out of control. Remember that Jesus is your security and His Word is your foundation.
The LORD Jesus has placed you here to be an encouragement and living testimony of His grace and sufficiency. Thank you for always encouraging us by your daily example of Christ-likeness. You are a joy to our hearts. Blessings always in Jesus,

327 students • Ranked the best private high school in Alabama eight years in a row
Graduation is the outward and visible culmination of your Indian Springs journey as a student, but it is also just an inflection point in what I know will be an incredibly successful and meaningful life journey. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration at Indian Springs, let me congratulate you on your remarkable personal accomplishments and collective achievements. More importantly, let me share my gratitude for bringing great joy and happiness to the Indian Springs community. It has been an absolute pleasure seeing you grow over the years, sharing laughs with you, and watching you flourish inside and outside our classrooms.
It feels like just yesterday that your parents were dropping you off for the first day of your high school career at Indian Springs. The nerves and anticipation of that day have been replaced with growing confidence and a sense of self. Although there have been long and tiring days along the way, in hindsight, we can all agree
that the years have flown by. Within a matter of a few short weeks, you will arrive on campus one last time as a student and leave as part of the Indian Springs Alumni Association. Wear this badge proudly, for it is a great accomplishment. Your journey was hard but meaningful. Never shy away from hard challenges throughout your life. You will be made better for trying.
As you prepare to travel your unique path and the inevitable twists and turns of life, know that you are prepared to do so; that you are worthy of the challenges ahead; that you are more than good enough; and that you are loved. We are excited to see all you accomplish in life, and we will celebrate every significant milestone with you from afar. Your Indian Springs family will miss you dearly, so we hope you will come back to visit often.
With admiration and gratitude,
Scott G. Schamberger, Head of School, Indian Springs SchoolSince being at Indian Springs for five years, after arriving his eighth grade year, senior Mark Underwood describes his time at the school as a magical experience.
“I was supported while testing myself both academically and athletically,” Underwood said. “Some of the highlights were hiking along trails, long, fun conversations with teachers at lunch or after class, and spending free periods with classmates and friends.”
Underwood was voted into one of the positions as a Commissioner of Services, where he ran the student store at his school. He also competed in Cross Country for five seasons and bowling teams at his school.
Underwood said his favorite
subject is economics courses where he is able to develop projects he is interested in, from scratch.
“I am able to gain knowledge in a field where I believe my future lies,” Underwood said. “Any other of my classes where conversation and debate occurred commonly also were extremely fun to participate in at Springs.”
A favorite part of high school for Underwood has been the process of completing high school as a senior.
“After many years of growth, I am able to look back and reflect on all times, good or bad, and see all the improvements made
and all the memories gained,” Underwood said. Something that has helped him academically is utilizing his free time at school to complete homework and study in a place where he can best concentrate.
“This has helped me better manage my time to maximize both productivity and free time for resting or pursuit of hobbies,” Underwood said.
Those that have made an impact on Underwood during his time in school include his parents, who served as motivators and for making sure he was on task while also inspiring him to
work hard; his teachers, who assisted him in the classroom; his coaches who pushed him in practice; and his friends who kept him sane and happy.
“I hope to remember all of my time from Springs,” Underwood said. “I believe that every moment has shaped who I am today, and who I will be in the future and I cannot thank the school or the school’s community enough for giving me these memories and supporting my journey.”
After graduation, Underwood plans to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama, where he will be studying finance.
Underwood hopes to eventually pursue a career in either investment banking or securities law.

First, I want to thank all of the seniors for a remarkable school year. Each one of you have impacted the school and community in so many ways. As your senior year comes to an end, keep in mind this is not the finale but the beginning of your journey.
Many of you will be transitioning into college, while others will be heading into the workforce. I hope and pray you will utilize the skills and strategies you have acquired through the years as a Montevallo student.
As you move into the next phase of life, dream big, set goals and take action. As Joel Barker stated, “Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.”
In addition, be confident in your abilities to take action, so that you may make a true difference in the world around you.
Lastly, I hope you will always share the love for others by creating a generous community of civility, hope, optimism, and friendship. You are now, and forever will be, part of the Montevallo bulldog family.
Congratulations! I look forward to watching you prosper as young adults.

Montevallo High School senior Leila Mendonca said knowing everyone in her school and the close engagement and support from her teachers helps give Montevallo its homely feel.
“Everyone just feels as one and our spirit within our school and community is so big,” Mendonca said. “Small-town Montevallo is like a second home.”
Starting her freshman year, Mendonca joined SGA and now has had the honor of holding the officer positions of SGA’s President and Media Agent; during her time at MHS she has also played six years on the girl’s varsity soccer team and has worn the captain band both her junior and senior year; she is also the media agent for the school’s Spanish Club and she is in the National Honor Society; National Art Society; Mu Alpha Theta; Pep Club; Zonta Club; BETA Club; Peer Helpers; Big Brothers Big Sisters; Broadcast Journalism; homecoming committee; yearbook committee; and a soccer athlete with Birmingham United.
“I thank Montevallo for giving me these opportunities to
push my limits because without them, I would not have grown into the person I am today,” Mendonca said. “I am a believer that in order to grow, one must step out of their comfort zone, and as for the growth of myself, I have pushed the limits of my anxiety by stepping out of my comfort zone and participating in the many clubs and organizations that my school provides.”
Mendonca said her favorite subject is science, including environmental science, because she loves stepping into her environmental science class knowing she will learn something new about the world.
“I will also learn about ways to protect it,” Mendonca said.
A highlight of high school was playing soccer for the girl’s soc-
cer team.
“Over my time on the team, I have watched us grow tremendously,” Mendonca said. “This growth has shown its presence because this season we have made it to the playoffs for the first time. All the support that our small community provides us with is none like any other. I love being a part of a sport that created such an uplifting and loving environment, especially as it has introduced me to all the close friendships I created throughout high school.”
A key to her academic success in school has been using Quizlet.
“Creating my own flashcards on my laptop and studying them anywhere, at any time, greatly prepared me for upcoming tests and exams,” Men-
donca said. “Being a student at a small school has also greatly contributed to my academic success. The smaller classes allowed for better classroom discussions and participation, aiding not only myself, but other students to greater academic success.”
Someone who made a big impact on her during her time at MHS was her ninth grade English/Broadcast Journalism teacher Mrs. House.
“She is the most optimistic person I have ever met and she inspires me to do the same,” Mendonca said. “She is so involved and connected with her students and is always creating positive impacts throughout our school. She is the person who introduced me to broadcast media, allowing me to realize my creative potential with media, and guiding me to my choice of Visual Media Studies for my major in college.”
After graduation, Mendonca plans to attend Auburn University where she will major in Visual Media Studies and minor in marketing. She will also be a member of the school’s Honors College.

Oak Mountain High School senior Ben Dyer said it is the people at his school that make everything special.
“I have loved spending time with my friends in class, football games, dances, banquets, and by getting involved with different clubs and activities both inside and outside of school,” Dyer said. “The teachers are really great at their jobs, but they are also very kind and interesting people to know.”
During his time at OMHS, Dyer was one of four National Merit Finalists from Oak Mountain and one of three students to score a 36 on the ACT. He was also heavily involved in the band where he has been a member since his sixth grade year. During his senior year he has been on the first chair trombone in the band’s wind ensemble and jazz band.
Dyer made All District and All State level jazz and concert bands throughout middle and high school and is currently the second best high school jazz trombone player in the state.
He has been a member of the math team and the scholar’s bowl since eighth grade and recently placed second in the Shelby County Tournament for the advanced math team. This past year, both Dyer and a friend

co-founded the history club at OMHS where the group participates in various projects, presentations, and debates on historical topics.
Dyer has worked as a math tutor at Mathnasium from May of 2021 until September 2022 and he has worked as a private math and physics tutor since that time.
He also serves as the treasurer of the Spanish Honor Society; the social media manager of the Beta Club, and is a member of the Rho Kappa, Mu Alpha Theta, Science, English, and National Honor Society and received the AP Scholar with distinction award his junior year.
“SOAR 60 is probably my favorite part of Oak Mountain,” Dyer said. “SOAR 60 is basically an hour of free time built in the school day where students can eat their lunch, work on their schoolwork, get help from their teachers, or just spend time with their friends. This hour makes the stress of

a school day much easier to manage and has given me the ability to make friends with people in different grades or who aren’t in any of the same classes as me.”
A favorite subject for Dyer has been any class that involves math and science, but especially the classes involving physics.
“Physics is a fascinating, mathheavy science class that has challenged me in a way no other class has before,” Dyer said. “At Oak Mountain, we get a lot of opportunities to work in groups and experiment with physics. This allows for a very hands-on and collaborative learning environment, which I love.”
Dyer said it was his math teacher, Ms. Bittinger who made a big impact on him during his time at OMHS.
“Ms. Bittinger has been my math teacher, math team coach, mentor and friend for the past two years,” Dyer said. “There is no person who has had a greater impact on my

academic life than her. Besides the fact that she is both a math genius and a brilliant teacher, Ms. Bittinger is the kindest person I have ever met. She is incredibly humble and solely focused on the success and well being of her students. Her example of living a life of service to others is something I will never forget.”
Dyer considers himself lucky to have been part of Oak Mountain’s school system for the entirety of his time in grade school.
“All of the faculty genuinely care about what’s best for the students, and my peers have been great friends and motivators in my life,” Dyer said. “I hope to remember that whatever success I may achieve in my life is in great part due to the resources and people I had access to at Oak Mountain.”
After graduation, Dyer plans on majoring in mechanical engineering and possibly pursuing a double major or a minor in physics.
He eventually wants to work as an engineer for the beginning of his career, but is also passionate about teaching. He wants to consider pursuing becoming a teacher or professor of some kind and would like to tutor as well.

It is really here! One of your biggest milestones is now, within reach. The day you have been waiting for since your freshman year is just a few short weeks away. Although this is such an exciting time, this is also the end of an era for you. Take time to enjoy these last weeks and soak up the memories.
It has been a pleasure and honor to be your Principal. Wishing our seniors goodbye is one of the most emotional tasks of the school year. Words and phrases seem inappropriate to characterize the special memories and added “flavor” you have given to Pelham High School. Each of you have etched a lasting legacy in the hearts of your teachers, and administrators and it has taken every single one of you to build the Class of 2023. Remember the significance of your importance. The absence of just one of you alters your group completely.
As you enter the next phase in life, go forward with courage. It is okay to make mistakes. You will gain more from failing, regrouping, and then conquering the tasks that scare you the most. Understand that Plan B is more than okay, it IS a PLAN too. Life never goes how you expect. Embrace the challenge, breathe deep, and keep moving forward.
My advice is for you to slow down these next few weeks. Take it all in. I understand the next chapter will be amazing, but the people beside you for the last several years have helped make some of your most valuable and worthwhile memories. Some of your most self-defining moments, whether good or bad, have been made here and with your classmates. Now is the time to reflect on these

moments and grow from your own personal experience. There are some things, believe it or not, you will miss about high school. If you have apprehension buried deep, embrace it when it surfaces. “What You Have Known”, will never be the same again and the thought of your new normal, is exhilarating and frightening at the same time.
Lastly, thank those around you. Thank your friends. Thank the teacher who changed you. Thank your parents. They know more than you think! Thank them all for the little things and in doing so, you will be able to comprehend the magnitude of their sacrifice and love for you. Stay focused on where you are going, but never forget where you have been. The good times, as well as the bad, have made you the person you are at this moment. Although you are leaving us, there is always a place for you in the Panther Family. Many of you will come back to visit. We hope you do, because there is something so precious and nostalgic about walking down these halls a few years after graduation.
Thank you for sharing “you” with me and the faculty and staff of Pelham High School. You are forever a Pelham Panther and a defining part of The Pelham Way.

Pelham High School senior Jordan Caskey credits her involvement with various clubs and organizations as helping to fill her time with spirit and commitment to her school.
“I have loved going to all the sporting events and cheering on PHS,” Caskey said. “Pelham is a tight-knit community and it is reflected in PHS and their love for the school.”
During her time at PHS, she has been a member and captain of the Pelham High School dance team; SGA class representative; Key Club President; Book Club President; Peer Helpers and a student at Dance Etc.
“Being involved in many clubs and extracurriculars made high school jam-packed with beautiful memories, but most of all I loved football games,” Caskey said. “It was a privilege to perform at halftime with the dance team and I will never forget the feeling of dancing underneath the stadium lights.”
A study habit Caskey developed during high school was to study in a quiet room with no distractions to serve as temptations.
“My academic success can be credited to a very full agenda that I write in every morning,” Caskey said. “Planning out my day allows me to make sure I am completing everything with its needed attention.”
A favorite subject for Caskey was AP calculus where she credits her teacher, Mrs. Creel.
“I have always preferred math over other subjects,” Caskey said. “I think it offers a special satisfaction of pushing yourself to work through problems, but mostly I enjoy the factual and definite component.”
Those who made a big impact on Caskey during her time at PHS include her AP Literature teacher and Book Club sponsor, Mrs. Burnett.
Caskey said she encouraged her to be her best self.
“Every day, she prepared her class not only for the AP exam in May, but for life itself,” Caskey said. “She always pushes us out of our comfort zone and challenges us to reach new heights. Not only does her work improve us mentally, but emotionally too as she always offers us inspirational poems and quotes to get us through the day. High school would definitely not be the same without her.”
In looking back over her journey at PHS, Caskey said she hopes to remember the pure joy of simply being with her friends.
“Events like senior sunrise and field day were so special to my class,” Caskey said. “It will be hard to forget the memorable times of being field-tripped out for playoffs, watching Mr. PHS, and the many events we experienced together.”
After graduation, Caskey will attend Auburn University where she plans to study engineering. Caskey is excited to become an involved Auburn student on campus, especially in the student section of the Auburn basketball games.
Pelham High School senior
Eva Thi Nguyen is thankful she was raised in Pelham, helping make her the person she is today.
“Pelham is a close-knit, yet irreplaceable family community, and fosters a certain humility no other town can replicate,” Nguyen said. “Having the opportunity to honor the community in the homecoming parade after the state volleyball tournament was definitely a memory I hold close to my heart.”

Well done! You’ve finished high school and finished it well, leaving a legacy of leadership and character to those who follow you.
I feel honored to be your principal and believe the best is still ahead for each of you. Not only have you achieved great things at Shelby County High School, you’ve done them unselfishly with joy and enthusiasm.
Your greatest years are in front of you, not behind you, and I cannot wait to see what you do with the lives you have been given. My hope for you is that although high school is over, you will never stop learning and growing.
Your class has been set apart by your exemplary leadership and high moral character. These traits are needed in every corner of the

society you are now entering, and I encourage you to be bold in what you have to offer the world.
I also want to remind you to feed the joyful spirit I see in each of you. Remember that life, though difficult at times, is fun and full of happy moments.
You have consistently brought laughter into the halls of SCHS and that light should grow, not diminish, as you get older. Go make the world a more beautiful place, but don’t forget to come back every now and then.

Spain Park High School senior Evan House said a favorite part of school for him was being a part of the final four basketball team and winning three straight regional and area championships.
“That journey and camaraderie I built with my teammates will leave a lasting impact on me,” Houser said. “I also enjoyed my time with friends at school, just because we always make each other laugh and I am always happy with them.”
During his time at Spain Park, Houser was selected as class president all four years of high school and currently serves as senior class president; served as the vice president of the school’s Model United Nations Club and served as the president of the National Honor Society at Spain Park; was a school ambassador and a senior representative of Key Club; interned at biomedical engineering lab

Describing science and specifically biology as his favorite subject, Houser said science just resonates with him the most out of all other subjects.
“The best thing about science-related courses is that I don’t have to write papers, but I really enjoy learning about the small things in the world that allow humans to function as they

do,” Houser said. “Biology is such an intricate topic with so many small and different things, it really just piques my interest.”
Some tips that helped prepare Houser to be a better student include not cramming the day before a test.
“Cramming does not store information for the long-term and it usually will only last you one day and you will most likely forget before the test,” Houser said. “Instead of waiting until the last minute to study, space the material out. If you have five days until a test, split the material into four sections and review one section a day and on the last day review everything.”

at Spain Park have been his parents; Mrs. DiChiara; Mrs. Wallace; Mr. Parker; and Dr. Esslinger for all the help they have given him throughout his high school tenure.
“Without them and my parents helping me out, I might be in a different situation,” Houser said.
Houser said he hopes to remember all the welcoming, loving and kind people he met at Spain Park.
“In the future, when I reminisce about my time at Spain Park, I will be reminded of all the good people that came into my life,” Houser said.
After graduating, Houser plans to attend college at either Vanderbilt, Columbia, Cornell or the Naval Academy.
In college, he hopes to major in biomedical engineering on a pre-med track and go to medical school to become an immunologist.

When Taylor Rogers looks back on her time as a Thompson Warrior, she is thankful for the opportunity she had to create memories and learn from some great teachers and administrators.
“From experiencing COVID my freshman year to winning homecoming queen my senior year and being football state champs for all four years, it is safe to say my time at Thompson has been one for the books,” Rogers said. “I got the chance to create memories with some of the best people.”
During her time at THS she has been involved with varsity track and field; peer helpers; Big Brothers and Big Sisters; THS STEM girls; Key Club; HOSA-Future Health Professionals (chaplain officer position); Rho Khappa (history honor society); Leo Club (served as secretary); Infocus (substance abuse focused club); Beta Club; Spanish National Honor Society (treasurer ambassadors secretary); Mu Alpha Theta;

Rogers said her favorite subject was English, mostly because of the freedom the subject offered her.
“We were not limited to formulas or historic dates, but were encouraged to explore our truth through words,” Rogers said. “It served as a creative safe space that we were permitted to flourish in.”
A key tip to her success academically was prioritizing her mental health and setting aside time for herself.
“I was involved in a lot of activities that consistently kept me busy, but finding balance is what allowed me to thrive,” Rogers said. “Finding people to

A person that made an important impact on Rogers during her time in school was Jordan Wiggins, who taught the THS senior valuable lessons that helped develop her character and altered her perspective on many aspects of life outside of school.
“Jordan was one of my biggest supporters, especially when it came to track and field and continuously pushed me to be the best version of myself,” Rogers said.
After graduation, Rogers plans to attend the University of Alabama where she plans to major in nursing.
Other future goals include being the best in her field with hopes of traveling the world while getting to do something that she loves while also helping others.

During his time at VHS, Carroll was involved in various extracurricular activities, some of which included track and cross country; JROTC for four years, which helped provide him with many leadership opportunities; the Scholar’s Bowl Team where the team took second place in the county competition; the film crew for the football team where he filmed games for later review; and choir, which held concerts twice a year.
Carroll said his favorite subject is math because he has always enjoyed learning about mathematical concepts and
has always enjoyed talking to his current math teacher, Mrs. Marbut.
Something he has found success in academically is doing his assignments as soon as he receives them.
“If you do this, you will experience much less stress and your final product will be of greater quality,” Carroll said.
Carroll’s English teacher, Mrs. Gifford was someone who had a big impact on him during his time in school.
“Her instruction and practical advice has made me a better student and provided me with
the means to succeed,” Carroll said.
After graduation, Carroll plans to attend UAB and get a degree in civil engineering. He will be joining the Army Reserve before going to college and participate in UAB’s ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) through the SMP (Simultaneous Membership Program).
After graduating from UAB, he plans to join the U.S. Army as an engineer officer and retire after 20 years, then work as a civilian for the Army Corp of Engineers for 10 more years.

what it means to be a Vincent Yellow Jacket. Before you leave, I would like to challenge you to strive to make the world around you better.
Whether that’s in a different classroom or in the workplace or in the military or with your family or with your friends, show them all the love and compassion that you desire to have shown to you.
I am so very proud to have known each of you. Go Yellow Jackets!
5080 Cahaba Valley Trace • Birmingham, AL 35242 Knights • 563 students • Ranked the 3nd best Christian school in Alabama
Graduation is a time when we naturally remember and celebrate your successes. You all have much to celebrate! The achievements of the 36 of you include several athletic state titles, recognition as scholar-athletes, victories in statewide art competitions and international robotics competitions, national academic awards, and numerous academic and athletic scholarships.
You have written and presented a thesis to an audience of your peers and faculty. You have served and led well on athletic teams, through the House system, and other clubs and organizations.
When we celebrate these achievements, we are not simply celebrating what you have done; rather, we are also celebrating God’s work in and through you. It would be possible to use your gifts for self-promotion.
Yet accolades, achievements and recognition are not sources of ultimate satisfaction. As followers of Christ, we recognize that our identity does not rest primarily in our work, but rather in the finished work of Christ.
We agree with the apostle Paul who writes in Philippians 3:7-8:
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ…”
We recognize the gifts that God has given, and we are thankful for those gifts; our challenge is to consider how God may be calling us to steward what we have to serve Him and to serve others. As our school’s mission affirms, we have aimed to equip you with wisdom, virtue, and eloquence.
Even as you have grown in those areas, of course no one is perfectly wise, virtuous, or eloquent. Rather, rest in God being at work in all things, and strive for growth with that truth in mind.
I am proud of your work so far, and I look forward with great anticipation to seeing how you will use your lives to serve God and others.

Westminster senior Elizabeth Mann said her time at school has been filled with memories made playing sports, developing great friendships, or the wisdom she has gained from teachers that truly love her.
“Westminster is unique in that you can play multiple sports (sometimes all at once), and I am thankful I could participate in each of the three I was part of,” Mann said. “I am also grateful for our small class sizes so that we could have deep conversations with our peers and teachers. I love how I have been able to develop a relationship with my teachers and almost everyone in my grade.”
During her time at school, Mann was the yearbook editor; Westminster Ambassador; member of the National Honor Society; soccer, tennis and basketball captain; House Chair (in the community building house system that the school has developed), History Chair, Community Chair and Senior

Chair; and participated in the Servant Leadership Team for Briarwood Presbyterian Church’s youth group.
Mann said her favorite subject in school is history because she loves learning about crazy stories from the past, and has also been blessed with incredible history teachers at Westminster.
“Currently, I am studying Modern European History, and it has been fascinating to learn how events in the past have triggered tension and disagreements we now see in our world today,” Mann said.
A study tip that Mann found
helpful was to manage her time wisely and to work diligently on her schoolwork.
“I honestly do not have time to procrastinate,”
Mann said. “So, when I have time to do schoolwork, I have to get it done then or else I won’t complete it. My best tip though is to knock out an assignment as soon as it is given to you. Do it while it is still fresh in your mind so you won’t forget it.”
Mann credits one of her former history teachers with having a big impact on her during her time in school.
“Even though she had high
standards for our work, she pushed me to thoroughly learn the information, so that I would better understand it,” Mann said. “I have also been blessed by her continued impact on my life as she encourages me through a monthly Bible study. I know that she cares much more about my personal faith and walk with Christ than my performance in the classroom.”
As Mann prepares to leave Westminster, she said she is confident she is leaving with a strong foundation mentally, emotionally, academically and spiritually.
“I am thankful for the teachers and coaches who have poured into me and prepared me for college,” Mann said. “I know that they will always be praying for me, cheering me on, and supporting me in whatever I do.”
After graduation, Mann plans to attend Auburn University where she will study nutrition.
