Chamber Launches It’s 3rd Year of Communication Matters For 11th Grade Students! The Chamber’s workforce readiness for 11th grade students called “Communication Matters” kicked off September 28 at Cornerstone Christian School. This program targets soft skills (interviewing skills, resume writing, etc.) was created to help students understand the dos and don’ts of the workplace. Students learn what you should and shouldn’t do during an interview, how to properly write a resume, things to include on your resume, how to dress during an interview and much more.

The Chamber is kicking off the 6th year of its “Keeping it Real” program. The program teaches 9th grade students about “real world” life choices by giving them a randomly assigned “life situation” which includes marital/ family status, education, job and salary. The students then pay bills, make decisions on increasing training, adding a second job, etc. based on the “randomly-selected” scenario. Each year this program has been an eyeopening experience for the 9th graders and the volunteers that assist with the program. The Chamber is seeking volunteers for Kingwood Christian School on October 5 and Oak Mountain High School on October 26. Volunteers would manage a station and assist the students as they make decisions “paying bills” and make “life choices” based their situation. If you or your

CAREER READINESS GROUP Promote importance of career development and the promotion of a qualified workforce for Shelby County. Organize the following programs: “Keeping It Real” for 9th graders, “Career Awareness Fair” for 10th graders, “Communication
industries through tours, legislative actions, seminars and other appropriate means. Also, coordinate the Chamber’s Green Business recognition program and organize the annual Industry Appreciation Event. Meets 2nd Wednesday of each month @ 8:30AM @ iBERIABANK - Pelham Branch
ENTREPRENEUR ROUNDTABLE PROGRAM (ERT) Program designed for the individual responsible for the direction of the company and with the authority to make final decisions.
