The Chamber’s Connections Luncheon, scheduled for January 10 will feature comments from The Alliance for Alabama’s Infrastructure (AAI). With the state of Alabamaís roads and bridges being one of the top political issues across the state, implementing a plan to address this issue will likely be the focus of the 2019 state legislative session. The Alliance for Alabama’s
Infrastructure (AAI) is a grassroots advocacy coalition focused on fixing Alabamaís road and bridge crisis by identifying financiallyresponsible investments and long-term solutions for Alabama’s transportation
system. AAI consists of a diverse group of businesses, professional associations, and local chambers of commerce from around the state who believe that it is time for Alabama to address this
growing problem. AAI is dedicated to engaging the public and local business communities across the state to learn what transportation needs exist in their community and communicating those needs to the state legislature. Existing Business Program Helping Fuel Growth
When most think of economic development, it is the recruitment of new companies that comes to mind. However it is the less visible expansion of existing businesses that mostly fuels job growth and investment in our county, region, and state. The Chamber and 58 Inc have partnered over the last year to serve theses existing firms through our collaborative Business Contact Program. Over the past 12 months, staff from the partner organizations
visited over 100 companies in Shelby County. These companies are large and small and represent the diverse industry base of our local economy. During the visits, company representatives discuss obstacles to their growth, workforce needs, supplier information, and opportunities for future growth with the Chamber/58 Inc staff. The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Work Group will host a Legislative Preview Luncheon featuring the Shelby County state legislative delegation as they prepare for the upcoming 2019 legislative session. This meeting will provide area businesspeople with the opportunity to meet with the County’s state legislative delegation prior to the State Legislature’s convening in Montgomery. The Luncheon will be from 11:30AM - 1:00PM on Thursday,
February 21 and feature a brief presentation from the delegation followed by a “question & answer” period for attendees. Shelby County Chambers Unite
The Greater Shelby County and South Shelby chambers of commerce announced December 4, 2018, they have decided to join forces to champion Shelby County as a premier place to live and do business. The decision to join the two organizations was unanimously approved by the
board of directors of both chambers on November 27 and November 28. Months of deliberation by task teams made up of members from both chambers resulted in the obvious new name of the entity. The Shelby County Chamber will showcase a new logo and begin operating on January 1, 2019.
