35th Annual Liberty Day Grand Marshal

Jim Strickland Jim Strickland was instrumental in starting Liberty Day in Columbiana 35 years ago. Then President Reagan had encouraged cities to celebrate the unveiling of the newly restored Statue of Liberty and Columbiana, under Strickland’s encouragement, jumped on board and celebrated by closing the streets and having a parade down Main Street, a singing on the courthouse lawn, and a fireworks show. Strickland said that the event was so successful they decided to make it an annual event.
