LETTER FROM THE EDITOR DEAR VOTER, It’s an important election year for Shelby County, and while many may be looking to the General Election in November, Aug. 25 marks an important day for local municipalities throughout the county with the 2020 municipal elections. Each city will hold an election to determine who will be the mayor and city council members for the next four years. Voting in your local municipal election is one of the most important votes you can cast every four years because of the impact it has on your way of living. And this year is no different with eight of the county’s 14 cities/ towns. having opposition in the race for mayor, meaning many cities are at a crossroads of figuring out whether they want to make changes or continue in the current direction under the leadership that has been in place the previous four years. During this year’s municipal election, Alabaster, Columbiana, Helena, Montevallo, Vincent and Wilsonville will have a new mayor with the current mayors of those cities deciding not to run for reelection. In addition to that, there is opposition in Hoover and Pelham for the mayoral seat as well. Most cities also have opposition for at least one council seat if not all of them. The only two that have no opposition are Indian Springs and Wilton. That makes this a big year for residents of those cities to get out and vote, which is why we at the Shelby County Reporter put together this special election guide. In such an important time for the residents of this county, we want you to go to the polls informed before casting your vote. Inside, you’ll find a rundown of each candidate running in each municipality and info about all of the candidates so you are ready come Aug. 25. The quality of living in Shelby County continues to make it one of the best places to live in the state, and keeping it that way is up to the voters for each city to help our cities not only remain great but move forward as well.

Sincerely, Alec Etheredge Managing Editor Shelby County Newspapers Inc. MUNICIPAL ELECTION GUIDE 2020 | 1
