DITOR’S NOT

In Fall / Winter of 2019 we will continue to see a resurgence of what was once old is new again. This will spread across the board from apparel & accessories to technology & entertainment alike. Bold yellow will come into light and ride the athleisure wave that has declared itself fit to stay. Relaxed and oversized silhouettes in comfortable cotton & polyester will rule the market due to millennial unemployment rate and a new lax attitude towards business attire. Rich velvets & knits in emerald & amethyst feel right for Fall given their comfort & diversity appeal. These lux fabrics are accented with gold for an extra something and shown in tailored coats of wool & cashmere. Pastels will get revived with a throwback to 1980’s Memphis themed prints & knits. The geometric and eccentric art movement gave way to an array of color blocking, bold shapes & a Rocko’s Modern Life vibe. We will see doodlesque imagery across apparel & home goods in light pinks, blues & yellows that give an 80’s Easter feel. Neutrals take a dark turn and go towards the more sinister side of color pallets. Deep blues, greys, beiges & a hint of red complete an overall pallet by balancing all of the lightness in our observations. These dark colors surge through the market due to the current socio economic instability throughout the world. War, unemployment, & the ever steady increase for cost of living give way to a much more muted way of dressing in order to take control & simplify what you can in life.

MEMPHIS KITSCH

This color trend draws its inspiration from the Memphis art movement that occurred in the early 1980’s in Italy that was founded by architect Ettore Sottsass. The movement was full of lush pastel shapes and abstract forms. It has made its way back onto the market in forms of graphic design and fashion alike, popping up in prints, color schemes & even the movements infamous esoteric shapes.

Darkly muted browns, beiges, blues & greys make up this eerie set of neutrals, inspired by the current state of our times here in the world. P olitically, economically, socially & mentally, this color pallet shows all that is dark towards the neutral side of forecasting. Focusing more on the bruised & burnt than the lighter side of things, these colors evoke emotion & changing times. We will observe ripped & torn fashion through the market, a continuation of thrifted & second hand shopping, as well as Millennials staying extremely experimented with their fashion risks. 29
