Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters buys Los Feliz home By Lauren Beale | LATimes.com, 9/17/2013 Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters and his partner, filmmaker Chris Moukarbel, have bought the Ulm House in Los Feliz for $1.92 million. The seller was painter Beatrice Findley. The Streamline Moderne-style home, attributed to architect William Kesling and built in 1937, features a rounded glassblock illuminated stairwell, walls of windows, three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,309 square feet of living space. Shears, who turns 35 on Oct. 3, is the lead male singer of the pop band. The property came on the market in July at $1.9 million. Findlay purchased it in 1977 for $138,000. Brad Lawrence of Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent. Shelley Aaronson of Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyers.

Several years ago, my wife and I met Shelley at an open house and we were so impressed with her professionalism and the way she represented her clients. She was enthusiastic, yet realistic about the market conditions, and most of all, she seemed highly ethical... a seemingly rare trait in the real estate profession. We knew instantly that we would work with her someday. When the time came to sell our house, we interviewed a number of agents, most with significantly more experience than Shelley. However, her charm and that infectious enthusiasm separated her from the rest. In addition, her knowledge and passion for the area was far superior to people working the area for decades. Unlike other agents, there was no hard sales pitch with Shelley. Just blatantly apparent honesty, integrity and a high degree of confidence... in herself, in us, in our house, and in her ability to get the job done. Our decision to go with Shelley far exceeded our expectations. Not only did she sell our home in two weeks at a price we were very pleased with, but she made the whole experience an absolute pleasure! Shelley is warm and friendly, and most importantly, she listens more than any agent I’ve ever came across. One of most annoying things when dealing with agents is when you can’t get in touch with them right away. I’ve dealt with agents in the past who thought it was reasonable to call me back at the end of the day. Not acceptable! And not so with Shelley. Her attentiveness and responsiveness are second to none. When it came to crunch time, admittedly I started to get a little panicky. Shelley came through as a calming force, like the seasoned pro that she is. I believe this is when she added the most value. We received four offers for the house and her reads on each potential buyer was spot on. Her advice was flawless and she had a way of being convincing without being forceful. She seemed mindful of our partnership the whole time. Never once did I feel a conflict of interest thoughtful the entire process. And I am an incredibly skeptical person, especially of real estate agents.
