DeKalb | The Voice of Change ticket won the Student Association executive election after its disqualification was lifted Tuesday at an SA Supreme Court hearing. This year’s election turnout of 2,474 votes marks the first drop in voter turnout since 2012. The election turnout reached 2,600 votes in 2014, 1,500 in 2013, 750 in 2012 and 1,189 in 2011, according to a Feb. 23, Northern Star article. Nathan Lupstein’s Voice of

Change ticket won every SA executive position. Lupstein gained 1,682 votes while presidential candidate Ben Donovan gained 633 votes. “We’re really happy about the results of the election and we’re excited to start working with the students,” Lupstein said.

Reggie Bates, who was elected vice president, said his No. 1 priority is to make students aware of the Student Association. Marc Calvey, who was elected treasurer, said he will focus on reaching out to organizations to help them with their budgets. Raquel Chavez, who was elected student trustee, said she would like to improve recruitment and retention at NIU and think of ways to allocate funding.
