Why did you vote?

What are important issues to you?

Emma Falk Freshman meteorology and Spanish major

Antonia Mead Senior child development major

Tori Daul Junior education major

Andy Warden Junior public health administration major

“I voted because I feel that I need to have my voice heard. So many women in history fought for my right to vote, I feel that it’d be an insult not to honor their cause.”

“I voted because I care about the changes that are happening, like healthcare and minimum wage, so I feel that my vote is important.”

“Just because I should have a say in my government.”

“I felt compelled as my civic duty to do it [or] else you’re wasting your chance to do it.”

“Education, students and teachers aren’t getting the support and resources they need. Not only that, but schools get shut down, and when they go down, children lose communities and opportunities.”

“I’d have to say healthcare is very important. Not enough people are getting it.”

“Equality, gay marriage, racial treatment.”

“Minimum wage and providing birth control to everyone with the Affordable Care Act.”

DeKalb Expressions Jeffery Moore Junior chemistry major When have you felt valued by another person? “I tutored a girl in high school for three years, and it was really cool to see ... . I watched her go from not being able to do math to actually being able to do it without a calculator, so as I was leaving and she was saying ‘thank you’ and that ‘I appreciate how long you’ve been with me’ and stuff.” What was one of the most influential moments in your life? “Last year, I almost committed suicide, but I decided that I wasn’t going to. That has really impacted how I live my life. That’s why ... no matter what I’m doing, I always try to find a way to be happy about it or enjoy it because I decided that since I made the decision to keep on going on that, that was my choice that I’m not allowed to go back on it at all ... . ” Meet the people of DeKalb and NIU with Expressions on every Wednesday.
