bers will have the chance to voice their concerns regarding DeKalb’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget today. The Financial Advisory Committee met June 2 to discuss the proposed 2016 budget and provided four recommendations to the council at the June 8 City Council meeting. The recommendations included budgeting a $450,000 surplus, freezing hiring at current
levels until revenue growth exceeds three percent, not supporting other tax or revenue increases for operations without complete tax rate data comparisons and allotting $1 million in TIF funds toward road repairs. DeKalb | The members of the academic and administrative task forces were announced Tuesday on the program prioritization website. Forty-three faculty, instructors, supportive professional staff and operating staff will serve on the task forces, determining mergers, cuts and increases in funding for academic and administrative programs. The members will begin peer review training in the fall and rank programs in the spring. “We’re very pleased with the quality of individuals who were nominated and those chosen to serve,” said Lisa Freeman, executive vice president and provost, according to the program prioritization website. “These are all members of our university community who have strong histories of service, a commitment to excellence and the respect of their peers.” Go to http://bit.ly/1Bl2dMn for more information.

Denver to DeKalb The Smokin’ Guns Club is made up of active and retired law enforcement who work to help community members and students interested in law enforcement careers. This will be the second trip in two years for the group, consisting of eight motorcyclists, said Marc Brooks, coordinator of the event and member of the Smokin’ Guns Club. The idea came from Greg Davis, fellow coordinator and member of the Smokin’ Guns Club, in 2013 after Brooks made a 14 hour solo trip to Chicago in support of a friend with cancer. DeKalb | The Huskies will challenge Ohio State on Sept. 19 in front of a national televised audience. ABC will air the game from Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, at 2:30 p.m., marking the third time the Huskies will have made an appearance on the network, according to the NIU Alumni Association. NIU appeared on ABC in 2006 against Ohio State and in 2005 against Michigan. The Alumni Association will host a pregame reception at noon in the Fawcett Center in Columbus, Ohio. Students enrolled in the fall semester and season ticket holders are able to purchase a maximum of two tickets each, priced at $79 a piece, for the September game through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office until Aug. 14.
