Chicago bands perform at the House Cafe

Three injured in apartment fire Northern Star staff

All The Wine sold merchandise like t-shirts, pins and posters during the show. The band members plan to donate all the proceeds from Saturday to the Pulse Victims Fund. The Pulse Victims Fund is a GoFundMe page that is raising money all of the victims of the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Fl.

DeKalb | About $200,000 of damage was done to an apartment in the 900 block of Greenbrier after a structure fire occurred. Two individuals were trapped inside of the home while the fire was burning. Fire fighters climbed ladders to the second story, where the individuals were trapped, to bring them to safety. Two civilian injuries and one firefighter injury resulted from the fire. The injuries were non-life threatening, according to a DeKalb Fire Department press release. At 8:51 a.m. June 14 after a fire originated in a bedroom of the apartment. Ten assisting agencies were required to extinguish the fire, including fire departments from Sycamore, Malta and Cortland, according to the press release. The process took 20 minutes. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. As a result of the fire, surrounding roadways were blocked for through traffic. The DeKalb Fire Department worked with building management and the American Red Cross to assist displaced occupants, according to the press release.

DeKalb | William Pitney was named Associate Dean of Research, Resources and Innovation for the NIU College of Education, effective July 1. Pitney’s research focuses on employment issues experienced by athletic trainers, according to an article from NIUToday. Pitney will lead many initiatives on behalf of the college. Before NIU, Pitney worked as an athletic trainer at the clinical, high school and intercollegiate level, according to the article. Pitney earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Indiana State University, a master’s degree in physical education from Eastern Michigan University and a doctorate in adult continuing education from NIU, according to the article.

Party planned for Holmes director Northern Star Staff

DeKalb | A retirement party is planned for Norm Jenkins, director of the Holmes Student Center. Before his role as Holmes Student Center director, he acted as associate director of the Holmes Student Center and acting director of the Convocation Center, according to an article from NIUToday. Jenkins has served for more than 25 years at NIU and has had a great impact on the students and staff at NIU, according to the article. The retirement celebration will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. June 29 in the Duke Ellington Ballroom in the Holmes Student Center.
