‘Mocking Jay Part 2’ drops in revenue Los Angeles (AP) — “Mockingjay — Part 2,” the final “Hunger Games” film, soared to a $101 million opening in its first weekend in theaters, according to Rentrak estimates Sunday. For most films, the figure would be a coup, but the latest chapter of “The Hunger Games” collected the lowest opening take among the four films in the series. The series starring Jennifer Lawrence kicked off with a bang in March 2012 with a massive $152.5 million weekend — one of the highest openings of all time.

“Catching Fire,” the second film in the franchise, oneupped that with a $158.1 million debut in November 2013. “Mockingjay — Part one” opened last year to $121.9 million, considered at the time to be necessary and expected. The franchise low for the final “Hunger Games” film, which cost a reported $160 million to make, was a bit of a surprise. Lionsgate, however, was not disappointed. “It’s a great accomplishment. The overall franchise has grossed over $2 billion worldwide and

counting,” said David Spitz, copresident of theatrical distribution for Lionsgate. Expectations run high when films become so popular and successful in such a short a time, said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst for Rentrak. Only 34 movies in history have opened at over $100 million, including all four in “The Hunger Games” series. “Thanksgiving represents a good opportunity for a really strong second weekend,” Dergarabedian said of “Mockingjay — Part two.”

Adele performs during the 54th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles before the release of “25” on Friday.

Adele grows in album Deanna Frances Columnist T @DeannaFrancesNS

Adele’s new album, “25,” which was released Friday, debuts a more mature and powerful Adele. The first song on the album, “Hello,” was a perfect song to begin the album with. The song has powerful lyrics like, “hello from the other side. I must’ve called a thousand times to tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done, but when I call you never seem to be home.” The gloomy vocal style and strong chords make the song a powerful opener. The album includes many motivational, melancholy songs such

as “Million Years Ago” and “All I Ask.” My favorite song on the album is “Water Under the Bridge.” The upbeat tempo makes it an easy song to listen to. She’s finally able to add a different element to the tearjerkers that we expect from her. Although “25” has the same kind of feel as her previous albums but, it adds a new twist with a more mature and powerful sound. In “When We Were Young,” Adele talks about a love that means so much she wants it to last forever: “Let me photograph you in this light in case it is the last time that we might be exactly like we were before we realized we were sad of getting old,” she sings. “It made us restless.” I really enjoyed the new songs and feel like Adele showed her talent once again. Overall, Adele’s album features many powerful songs that are sure to become hits on the top charts.
