Participants of the fourth annual bags tournament get ready to compete at this years Corn Hole during Corn Fest on Saturday. The three day long festival was in downtown DeKalb.
Festival goers huddle under the sign of the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second Street, to get out of the rain and still hear the music coming from the nearby stage on Saturday.

DeKALB | “The only way [anyone] can keep me from doing Corn Fest is if they hit me with a shovel, ” said Jim Lootens, the Chuck Siebrasse corn boil engine owner. Locals like Lootens go every year and are dedicated to the annual festival. Last weekend marked 39 years of Corn Fest on Lincoln Highway between First and Fourth Streets in downtown DeKalb — DeKalb’s annual festival celebrating corn, live music and good food. The festival had various rides for festival goers and a corn hole tournament Saturday. Most festival goers who arrived early Saturday enjoyed free, allyou-can-eat corn from The Chuck Siebrasse Corn Boil event on Fourth Street and Lincoln Highway. The corn from the boil is made by a steam powered engine. Lootens has been working Corn Fest for 20 years and loves doing it every year. The corn boil ended an hour earlier than its scheduled closing time at 2 p.m. because The Chuck Siebrasse corn boil ran out of corn. Luckily, food vendors like Tinez Tacos, Rolling Harvest Food Truck and more offered a wide range of food from pizza and barbeque sandwiches to deep fried Oreos and Italian Ice.
Bands played live music on both the community and sound stage, including Hi Infidelity, Back Country Roads and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The headlining band 7th Heaven began their set 9 p.m. Saturday on the sound stage.

Near the end of 7th Heaven’s two hour set, a heavy downpour surprised most festival goers, leading them to run and find shelter under tents, stores, cardboard boxes and roofs like the roof of the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second Street. For the most part, the rain seemed to boost the performance of 7th Heaven and cooled off the crowd from the 80 degree heat earlier that day. The weekend continued with Art Fest for kids Sunday and a carnival that ran for the rest of the weekend. Corn Fest weekend closed out with The Fabulous Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on the sound stage.
