The show opens at 7:30 p.m. tonight and will run until Sunday at Huntley Middle School, 1515 S. Fourth Street. Concert director Paula Frasz said she is staging a modern dance based on the play, “Of the Joy that Kills,” directed by Luke Krueger, former School of Theatre and Dance faculty member. “The performers dance as well as deliver spoken text from the play,” Frasz said. “I’m excited for people to watch the different styles of dance this concert has to offer. We put a lot of hard work into this and we hope the audience enjoys the show.” Concert director Richard Grund will perform in the second act of “Swan Lake,” which was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa
Tickets are $9 for students. and Lev Ivanonv in 1875. The principal ballerina portrays the “perfect idolization” of a woman called the “Odette,” or the White Swan. The leading man, Prince Siegfried, falls in love with her in the second act of the four-act ballet. “We recreate and produce great standard dance works for our students to inspire and challenge them,” Grund said. “I could not be more proud of their accomplishment in this work. They are dancing very well and I think everyone will enjoy it very much.” Concert director Blair Burkhalter said she’s looking forward to the show and she hopes the audience enjoys it. “This dance also lets the audience get into the mind of a dancer and how their mind is always thinking about dance even if their body is not physically in the studio,” Burkhalter said.
