3 tips for NIU journey Timi Adeboje Black Student Union President
There’s so much information you’ve been given already about NIU and college in general it could make your head spin. No worries; I have three tips that will serve you well as you begin your journey in DeKalb. Learn There’s so much to experience at NIU. Challenge yourself to try something new, go out of your comfort zone and gain a new experience. You will be surrounded by diverse sets of people in an environment that may be drastically different than any you’ve ever been around. Take the time also to learn about yourself. What do you like, where do you want to go, what is your purpose? “Know thyself,” as a good friend of mine would say. Embrace the opportunity and accept it as a great chance to ...

Such an outstanding platform we are given to reach for things seemingly beyond us that even when you fall short, the knowledge you gain from the experience can still be a major asset. If you’d have told me as a freshman I would have experienced an award-winning corporate internship with a Fortune 500 company and become president of a campus organization, my laughter alone might have been unbearable. Enjoy Your time in undergrad will go quicker than you think. As you look back on it, I hope you will say “I did” versus “I should’ve.” I did go to those Huskie football games. I did attend a cultural event hosted by a student organization (*cough* Black Student Union *cough*). I did get the burger from the Huddle, the custard from Ollie’s and, of course, the late night wing run from Sea Captain. I truly did enjoy my time here because from the moment I arrived each fall, I told myself that the best has yet to come and treated each semester as such. Welcome to NIU. We are excited to have you.

SA to make difference via engagement, unity Nathan Lupstein Student Association President
My name is Nathan Lupstein and I will be representing you this year as NIU’s Student Association president. It is my most ardent hope that the SA and NIU collectively can offer you the most fulfilling and rewarding collegiate experience possible. The three pillars our administration will be operating on this year are campus outreach, effective engagement and evident
change. Essentially, we want to get to know you and the student body as best as possible over the course of the next two semesters and assure we are in constant communication. From this, we will have the opportunity to work together to work towards change the student body wants to see. As college students, we harness the exceptional powers of knowledge, organization and unity. Together we can transform NIU. You will be seeing myself and other members of the SA all over campus this year. It is an honor to be serving as your SA President, and I look forward to meeting you.
