Lehman goes off for 41 in big winNorthern Star Staff

March 2: vs. Marquette University March 13: vs. Bucknell University March 14: vs. Quinnipiac University March 19: at Ball State University I think the credit goes to being familiar with your own court and even though technically we’re not at home we play one hour away in Rockford. We have been comfortable since we’ve been playing there for six years. Q: Is the team ready for conference play? A: As of today I’ll have to say no. We have to get healthy and if we can get healthy, yes. I think this extended break can be very valuable to us and we can use this to our advantage. Q: This team you have this season is very talented. Do you believe that the guys can win the regular season and postseason MAC championships? A: Western Michigan [University] is very good this season, but I think what we have to do is focus on making the tournament. Only the top four teams make the tournament and I think if we can find ourselves in the tournament, we have a shot just like any of the four other teams. The last five years the number one and two seeds have not won the MAC tournament.

DeKalb | Women’s basketball (11-15, 4-11 MAC) picked up its 11th win over Western Michigan University on Wednesday night after a record-breaking performance by junior guard Ally Lehman. Lehman tied an NIU record with 41 points, including 29 in the second half, to help lead the Huskies to the 80-70 victory over the Broncos. She also dished out three assists and grabbed 12 rebounds, giving her 13 double-doubles on the year, the sixth-most in a single season in NIU history. The Huskies led by six points at halftime and were shooting 43 percent from the field. The Broncos trailed but held a 20-18 edge in rebounds and shot 50 percent from three. Lehman’s previous careerhigh was 27 points, a mark she broke midway through the third quarter. She went 12-19 from the field, 2-3 from three and 15-16 from the free throw line. She was one of only two Huskies to finish the game in double-figure scoring, followed by freshman guard/forward Courtney Woods, who contributed 21 points and snagged 10 rebounds of her own in the victory. It was the first doubledouble of Woods’ career. “You can’t say enough about Ally Lehman tonight,” said head coach Lisa Carlsen, according to an NIU Athletics news release. “From the beginning, she was aggressive and you can tell she was locked in.”
