Men’s golf finishes fifth at Otter Creek Up next

Tom Burton Staff writer

DeKalb | After a solid showing at Chambers Bay in Washington last week, men’s golf battled through tough conditions at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. to finish fifth overall at the Hoosier Collegiate. The Huskies carded an impressive 288 in the final day of the tournament Sunday, improving four places from a tough first day Saturday. “We did a good job today playing good team golf and managing all aspects of the course,” said head coach Tom Porten. “Today we took another step toward becoming a good team.” NIU’s final round team score of 288 was led by junior Charlie Cameron (81-70), who improved on a difficult opening round to card a 2-underpar round Sunday. Cameron said he was happy with his turnaround from Saturday to Sunday.

Boilermaker Invitational Time: All Day Date: Saturday, Sunday Place: Lafayette, Ind. “I definitely putted a lot better,” Cameron said. “The second round was a lot more solid all around.” Porten said he was impressed with Cameron’s turnaround after a tough start to the tournament. “He drove and putted much better today,” Porten said. “We knew he’d play better but I don’t think any of us expected 70, so were really happy for him.” Junior Joo-Young (75-71) had the lowest overall score for the Huskies, adding to his impressive year with a 14th place overall finish.
