Places To Go Before You Go Nick Bosshart | Northern Star
“Home” by Dan Croll During finals, all you can think about is wanting to be done with exams and going home. Home could be in DeKalb or it could be across the U.S., nevertheless you still need something to get you through your exams and this song is perfect for that because it makes you feel hopeful and calm. You could turn it on at any time of the day and it will put a soft smile on your face. In this song, Croll sings about going home and what it finally feels like to be back there. This song takes you to a place, maybe not your home, but it makes you feel something very special and it’s worth a listen for when you need a study break and are missing home.
“Hallelujah” by Time for Three I love the song “Hallelujah” by Time for Three. I discovered the song on the Mozart Piano Quartet Pandora station. It’s purely instrumental and it’s my go-to study song for finals. I love listening to classical music while I’m studying because I think it helps me focus more than listening to songs with lyrics. I have found that listening to classical music helps you retain information if you listen to it while you’re studying. I like to refrain from music with lyrics because it distracts me from my schoolwork and hinders me from paying attention to what I’m studying. I like the heavy beats and how intense the music is.
“Get Me Bodied” by Beyonce If I could pick a song that best helps me study, it would have to be “Get Me Bodied” by Beyonce. This song gives me the extra kick I need to stay motivated to push through those long paragraphs of reading and the long hours of studying. Beyonce’s music always seems to have this upbeat vibe about it that makes the listeners want to get up and dance. For the sake of getting my studies done, I refrain from getting up and doing the dance moves. In the song, Beyonce instructs me to do the “scissor-legs” or the “Naomi Campbell Catwalk,” but I just participate in a few head nods as I type furiously on my keyboard to meet that midnight deadline.

Haunted Holmes Student Center hotel The 16th floor of the Holmes Student Center is rumored to be haunted. At 6 p.m. Sunday when the dark moon aligns, the gates of hell open on the 16th floor, as the ghost Beelzebub releases his hounds of Hades upon the innocent virgin souls, according to John Vgolini, former Northern Star cartoonist, in an Oct. 9, 2003, Northern Star column. NIU had to alter the structure of the Holmes Student Center and change the roof to a point to channel the spirits away from the 16th floor, according to the column. If you’re brave enough, greet the ghosts before you leave NIU for summer break.

NIU art show, now is your chance. The campus art museum will be showing two exhibitions, “Between the Wars: Contrasts, Parallels Shifts and Patterns” and “Beyond Gatsby: Common Luxury in American Art Deco” and two small studies, “The Chicagoan: a Periodical of the Era” and “Deco and Art Moderne Architecture in Illinois,” 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
