The team’s coaching staff said they were impressed with the team’s accomplishments this year. “Overall, I think the program took a big step forward this year,” said head coach Tom Porten. “This year we were toe-to-toe with [the] best teams in the conference and [in] the country.” A bright spot for the Huskies going forward is the sudden emergence of junior Joo-Young Lee, who had several top-five finishes this year. The team also received solid play from many of its young players. Next year, the team will be without seniors Jordan Wetsch and Nick Huggins, but will have some solid young pieces to build around. Freshmen Salvador Rocha and Justin Hemings are proving to be
2013: Ninth place valuable young players the coaching staff will be able to count on for the next few years. Porten said the team is a joy to coach and mentor, calling them a “tough, young and determined group.” The Huskies will be welcoming incoming freshmen Michael Mattas, Jordan Less and Russell Matos. The three were all high school standouts and should be able to learn a lot playing on a team that has emerged in the last couple years. They will likely be competing for the final roster spots with upcoming seniors Charlie Cameron, Pierrick Fillon and Raphael Denais. Due to the depth of next season’s roster, the team will have to make some tough decisions with roster spots, but it is a good problem to have. No matter how the roster shakes up, Porten and his coaching staff will have many valuable options for this upcoming season, which begins September when the Huskies host the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove.
