The pedestrian walkway in between Second and Third Streets in downtown DeKalb has graffiti along the railing. DeKalb uses a “Citizen Request Tracker” iPhone app that allows citizens to report issues such as graffiti to the government using GPS location detection, according to the City of DeKalb website.

Fargo Skateboarding, which held a grand opening for its indoor skatepark from Aug. 26 to 28 encourages local artists to showcase their skills rather than vandalize other local businesses.

Fargo Skateboarding has various artists spray-paint their indoor skatepark to showcase its customers’ art. “Graffiti is a form of art and self-expression, and we believe it should be showcased to inspire a lot of up-and-coming artists,” Sommers said.

Graffiti covers the back of a building on Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb. It is unlawful for any property owner to leave a building with graffiti defaced for more than seven days after being notified of the defacement, according to the City of DeKalb Municipal Code 52.75. In many cases, the property owner must pay to have the graffiti removed themselves.
