The Communiversity Gardens started as a collaborative effort between NIU and the DeKalb County Community Gardens in the spring of 2014. After three growing seasons across more than 40 garden sites in DeKalb County, DeKalb County Community Gardens has produced about 20 tons of food, according to the Communiversity Gardens website.
