Vincentia Shelvie Verani came to San Francisco in 2015 because of her passion towards interior design. She moved to United States to complete her bachelor degree in Interior and Architecture design in Academy of Art University. Coming from a family with no background in art and design, she has great passion towards interior design and wanted to develop it further. She value honesty and responsibility towards her works as well as her willingness to learn something new. She able to motivate herself and other people from failure, learn from past mistakes and stand up again to be a better person. She always interested in new innovations of design and she likes to play around with pattern and textures on her design. Her design are based around nature because she believes that nature is a great teacher to everything and that we should learn from nature. She also believes that design could improve people’s quality of life by balancing functionality and aesthetics to achieve a great design.

MARIOTTO RESIDENCE A three storey condominium owned by three generation extended family. Located on laurel heights village in San Francisco, California. Each floor belongs to a different client and the goal of this project is to redesigned each floor to suit the client’s needs : to accommodate an aging parents and child with special needs.

Site Information The site is located at 13 Wood St, San Francisco, CA 94118., Laurel Heights village district. It is a neighborhood in the Western Addition district of San Francisco, California.. The neighborhood is characterized by two-story Edwardian and Victorian style homes in an upper-middle class suburban neighborhood. It is bordered by Geary Boulevard and University of San Francisco campus.

CONCEPT
Intertwined Vines
The concept for the first floor is driven by the idea of intertwined vines and branches. Vines and branches known to be connected with each other because the branches cannot bear fruit unless it abides in the vine. The low income group of people are often excluded from the society and underprivileged. They are also excluded from having access to good quality housing options. The idea of intertwined vines and branches were inspired by the relationship between as the landlord and the tenant.

CONCEPT Intertwine Redwood Roots
The concept for the second floor is driven by the idea of intertwined redwood tree roots. Redwood tree roots intertwined their roots together so that they are able to grow high because its roots support each other. This concept is inspired by how redwood tree roots intertwined and fuse together creating tremendous strength against force of nature. Since Aimee is disable, the design execution have to support her daily needs for her to be able to grow strong against the harsh of life.

CONCEPT Intertwined Wreath
The concept for the third floor is driven by the idea of intertwined wreath. Wreath has a meaning of protection, unity, balance, and memorial. The circle shape means eternity. The concept of intertwined wreath is inspired by Maria who serves as head of her family and also landlord for the 1st floor unit. Maria will have to protect both her family and the low-income individuals who rent the place. Wreath which could also means balance, reflect Maria’s life who needs balance between work and her private life inside the space.

DESIGN ANALYSIS Design should support people who decide to age in place. Design of the interior should support the needs of people who wanted to stay in their own home and age. The design should be seamless, no obstructive pathway and wide enough to accommodate people in wheelchairs. The house should also have good indoor air quality by using low VOC materials

DESIGN ANALYSIS The kitchen is designed in a wreath shape. It is designed in a circular motion incorporating the golden triangle rule in the kitchen layout. The kitchen cabinet is in cherry wood. Stainless kitchen appliances used on the kitchen such as double door refrigerator with freezer on the bottom, stacking oven and microwave with plenty of storage cabinets.

URBAN FARMER A market project located on the first floor of Channel St apartment in Mission Bay, San Francisco. The program is to design a mixed use commercial space: Upscale market, Restaurant, and Demonstration kitchen. The space designed is to be light, bright, natural, casual, and simple.

Site Information The site is located at 1101 4th street, San Francisco, CA, 94158. It is located on South of Market district but also part of Mission Bay district. The site is originally a marsh and it has been redeveloped into high end neighborhood housing condominiums, biotech development, research company, and hospitals.

Client Overview Tony Rivera, the CEO of Primo Hospitality Group has more than 25 years experience in F&B business. Tony plans to expand his business venture by opening up a mixed use space which will contain restaurant, market, and a demonstration kitchen.

CONCEPT Back to Nature
We are living in a world that is surrounded by technologies and more people are looking to reconnect to nature. The design intention is for people to break away from technology and get in touch with mother earth. Also, to design a space where it can gives customer experiences how life was before industrialization with organic, local, and sustainable fresh food while adjusting to a healthier lifestyle. The goal of this concept is to give not just an identity to the space but also as a place for community gathering and make the customer feel they are back in the nature. The design will be incorporated in organic forms, symmetry and asymmetry of nature forms.

BRANDING Thin lines contrasting the bulk line The font used for the logo is bulky and has some thin lines on it too. It is representing the tree shapes.

WINE CORNER The wine corner on the market area features a custom shelf which is inspired from a stacking mushroom. The shelf extend to the ceiling as ceiling feature and hide the ceiling fixtures.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC The project is to design the new headquarter office for National Geographic on an existing building located in an open area of the Presidio District of San Francisco. The National Geographic Society wishes to developed a mixeduse building that will house their West Coast Office headquarters, retail space for visitors, and public exhibit space for art/photography/educational exhibits, and a cafe.

Site Information The site is located at 34 Graham St, San Francisco, CA, 94129. The existing building is located in an open area of the Presidio District of San Francisco. It is located near the intersection of Anza Avenue and Owen Street. There is an existing parking lot on the west side of the building, across Anza Ave. As any other buildings in the Presidio District, the architecture of the building is the historic style of Mission revival.

Client National Geographic Society, a global nonprofit organization committed to exploring and protecting our planet. The society started a magazine of its own which covered a wide variety of world cultures and natural resources with emphasis on maps and high quality photography. They wishes to develop a mixed-use building that will house their West Coast office headquarters as well as retail space for visitors, public exhibit space for art/photography/educational exhibits, and cafe.

CONCEPT Volcanic Eruptions
The concept of Volcano represent the elements of earth, air, water, and fire. The concept of volcano is reminding us to stay in our foundational beliefs, communication, not to get influenced easily, flowing emotions freely like lava. The concept of the volcano is to let National Geographic, a company that thrive to explore and protect the planet to stay passionate about their missions and not to be shaken. The concept is inspired from National Geographic beautiful photographs of the Volcano. Volcanic Eruptions are not just a natural disaster, but it also brings new life after the eruptions. The concept will be applied by using textures, organic shapes, bold colors, and dynamic movement.

BUILDING ANALYSIS Height from floor to ceiling: 14’-2” Building Height: 27’-1” Building Height to Roof Cut: 34’-5” Building is facing Southeast. The south part of the building which is where the main entrance is facing will receive good sunlight. Shaded are necessary to block warm summer sun. The west and east part of the building will receive morning and afternoon glare where shaded is also necessary to make the rooms stay cool. The building that facing the northeast will have less favorable views because it is facing another building. The Southeast part will face the street and gets traffic noise, Northwest will face public parking lot and Southwest will face an empty lawn.

DESIGN ANALYSIS National Geographic is known for their highquality photograph and their expeditions. They went on many volcanoes expedition and took beautiful shots of the volcanoes. The design of the floor plan is based on the volcanic crater and a volcanic base concept drawing, The middle part is the magma chamber where everything happen and create tension between the space and the visitor.

The Lava Wall Exhibit is inspired by volcano when erupted. The wall is a curved wood panel uplight using red color light. To highlight the wall in. Playing with color to create a dramatic tension between the exhibit and the customer.

Carpet
The design of the 2nd floor is based on a concept drawing of volcanic base. The floor plan is based on the condition after volcanic eruptions where everything is cool down and new life start to grow. The center of the floor plan is the magma chamber after eruptions. Magma chamber is where everything happens under pressure and that’s going to be the workstation for the workers. In this floor, the materials are tone down to represent the after effect of volcanic eruptions. Materials used are concrete, gray wood flooring, some red color is used for accent.

Lobby is carpeted with a black and red patterned carpet creates way-finding to the exhibition. Wall features National Geographic logo in copper wall and a custom reception desk. 93

CAFE The cafe is a volcanic theme cafe featuring geometric ceiling structures in interwoven colors of red, blue, and white. The design is representing a mountain landscape and the concrete materials of wall representing volcanic crater texture.

The exhibition area features interactive volcanic sculpture and models, with many informative walls and natural light. The exhibition is designed in concrete flooring.

OFFICE RECEPTION The office reception ceiling design is based on upside down volcano and landscaping around it. The ceiling was a wood lattice. The reception desk is representing a burning lava.

To give more acoustic feature to the working area, the ceiling are dropped down. There carpet is resembling a magma chamber. The red color is also accent that gives color to the space.

HEISEI RESIDENCE A senior housing hospitality project located in 1881 Bush St, San Francisco, CA, 94109. The goal is to remodeled existing building for low income housing senior and to support sustainability for LEED credits.

Client The client is a nonprofit group which has purchased an existing two-story office building with 10,874 Sq. Ft. gross. The senior housing will be designed for average age of the residents is expected to be 75 years.

Site Analysis The site is located at 1881 Bush St, San Francisco, CA, 94109. It is located in Japantown neighborhood in the Western Addition district of San Francisco, California. The site is where the first Japanese arrived in San Francisco and built their new homes there after the 1906 earthquake. The area is the foundation of where San Francisco’s Japanese American community took root.

TARGET CUSTOMER
The senior housing will be designed for average resident age expected to be 75 years and low income seniors with median income between $37,650 and %53,750 for seniors who want to make change on his life by living healthier and for elderly who wants to age in place. The housing will be affordable to accommodate seniors that had retired with many program to get the balance between living healthy and age in place peacefully.

The senior living center will provide private condominiums, community activity spaces, a dining facility, and on-site nursing care. The project is to plan the interior renovation of the building and meet the client’s programming requirement which include; 1. Front lobby with reception desk and 4 waiting chairs 2. Dining Room: 500 sq. ft. minimum 3. Kitchen: 250 sq. ft. minimum 4. Community Room: 600 sq. ft. minimum 5. Library: 300 sq. ft. minimum 6. Exercise Room: 300 sq. ft minimum 7. Staff Offices: 300 sq. ft. 8. Nurse’s office: 150 sq. ft. 9. 8 Studio Apartments with kitchen, accessible bathroom, closet, and laundry closet for stacking washer/dryer (2’-9” wide x 3’-2” deep). CONCEPT Stacking Stones
The art of stacking stones is a form of worshiping. The stones are natural elements and reflect the balance between man-made structures and natures. In interior design, the stacking of zen stones reflect balance, harmony, and serenity while in Japanese garden they represent four classical elements. Together, they represented harmony and soul. The idea of stacking stones serves as an aid to meditation about the true meaning of life and as a representation that senior housing should give a quality life to its residents and give them a sanctuary. The design will reinforce the concept of healing and life balance, featuring the simple and clear lines, lighter and warmer earthy color to bring out a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The goal is to bring the outside to inside the space and create balance and harmony within the space.

DESIGN ANALYSIS When living in a housing, having a quality view from your house is the key to have a quality life. The idea of splitting 8 apartment into 4 for each floors so that everyone who reside in the senior housing could have a quality view and life. Also, the idea of atrium creates balance between public and private life.

Roof Garden is an important feature when designing a building. The idea of having roof garden could help to reduce building temperature, reduce noise and air pollution, and mitigate urban heat island. However, roof garden could also give a place of entertainment for the seniors.

Roof garden is designed for the seniors entertainment purposes. The roof garden will have planting area for the seniors to grow their own vegetables or herbs. There will be a barbecue area for get together events, There are also jacuzzi hot tub and seating area for relaxation purposes. The roof garden will also be area to place the solar panel to generate electricity for the whole buildings.

Client The main client for the Social Station Coworking space is start up businesses and social retailers. The tenants range from children clothing, furniture to essential oils, and many more. Everyday after 5 P.M., the social station will transform into an event or retail space that will effectively display co-working tenant products.

CONCEPT Star Collision
The general meaning of collide is to hit something or someone that is moving in a different direction from you. However, collide could also mean when two very different ideas or ways of thinking collide, they could come together and produce an interesting result. The idea of Star Collision come from the concept of having two different worlds collide. The intent for this social retail is to take an advantage of communal space where the workers from different fields can share their ideas and develop their business just like star collision. When two stars collide, a new star is created. When one worker meets another worker in the office, they create a new idea while interacting with each other. The co-working space will be named “Halo� which taken from the circular light around the stars when there is a star collision.

The project is to redesign a public park located at 303 2nd Street. It is a Plaza in San Francisco, CA which will serve as gathering place for people to rest under the shade, eating lunches, and unwind. The design will incorporate golden section rules to the layout design.

CONCEPT The concept of ts project is Urban Woodlands. The design goal is to create a public space that let people embrace the nature, enjoy the sun and wind. The space has a lot of trees and greenery which reminds me of a woodlands and I want people to think of the nature when they pass through the space. The space is designed in a way as if entering a woodlands but in an urban situated space. The overall concept is to create a public space for people to gather around, eating, having picnic, or relaxing under the shade. I want to make the space attractive and pleasing to the audience eyes but also functional and reminding people of the nature especially in downtown San Francisco, there isn’t many park that people could sit and just relax. This place could be one of the public space that anyone can go to for a walk or just relaxing.

Client Planning Commission & Department called for a new look for the space. The affection come from office worker who savored fresh air and sun. The spacious plaza has been renovated and an edgier look was called for.

LAYOUT SKETCHES The sketches for the overall park layout is based on geometric construction of The square root of 3 Triangle, Hexagon construction (Mandalas), Phi rectangle, and grid construction. The ratio park footprint is 4:5 which is a little bit more than phi ratios but also a golden rectangle ratio. The park will be tiled in tessellation pattern.

The construction of the park layout began by laying out the grid construction on a phi rectangle. Then draw the public space layout around the grid construction and also the mandala canopy around the fountain area in the center of the grid construction. Last, cleaning up the line construction to get overall layout of the public space.

FLOOR PLAN LAYOUT
The Northwest and Southeast area will have seating arrangement for office worker to have lunches. There are also picnic area for resident or passerby to enjoy sun and wind. The center area will have a fountain with seating area around it. The fountain area will be shaded using canopy designed in Mandala layout. A lot of tree will be planted to provide additional shade from the strong ultraviolet sun.

TEXTILE DESIGN Collection of textile design based on the concept of Neon Jungle by applying different printing techniques such as: paper stencil, interlocking and overlapping, photographic silk screen, hand painted, and heat transfer.

The first idea is using neon color for the textile pattern to create youthful pattern. The neon color will be laid on a dark background. The pattern will be on a jungle theme or using tropical patterns such as jungle foliage or palm leaves.
