Located near the junction of I-66 and I-81 in the northern Shenandoah Valley, the growing community of Middletown lies 14.5 miles south of Winchester. Stephens City is the second-oldest municipality in the Shenandoah Valley after nearby Winchester, which is about 8.9 miles to the north. Each year Middletown plays host to thousands of Civil War reenactors and thousands more spectators as the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation recreates the 1864 Battle of Cedar Creek.
