Largest Freshman Class in 15 Years

Each gift you give to SVA impacts Kellie—and every student at our school. Thank you for giving to help our school and young people!

The largest freshman class in 15 years—54* of them—are enrolled at SVA for the 2015-16 school year. The Class of 2019 is comprised of 32 girls and 22 boys. Eight are children of 10 SVA alumni parents.

Kellie, Class of 2016 from Lancaster, MA: I came to Shenandoah Valley Academy my junior year and am now a senior. Since attending SVA, I have grown to appreciate my parents more, all of the blessings I receive, and most importantly, the love my Father in Heaven shows me 24/7. I currently work in the Development and Alumni Office where I have gained so much knowledge and learned what responsibility is all about. My favorite class is English and the extra-curricular activity I participate in is being the choir pianist. I am also a dorm student and I can truly say that the girls’ deans have made me feel so much at home and have shown me more love than I could ever imagine. This school has taught me how to be selfless and to see others the way Christ does. Once I graduate, I plan to attend Andrews University where I will minor in music. I certainly don’t know what I want to do for a living but God will just have a whole lot of fun choosing for me.

Many of new families have benefitted from the commitment school administration has made to provide scholarships to better enable outstanding students to attend SVA. “A quarter of the freshmen test in the 80th percentile or above on the Iowa Test of Basic Standards and came to us with a gpa of 3.75 or higher, which qualified them for the Zirkle academic scholarship, reports registrar Wendy Dean.

Recipients of the Zirkle scholarship who reside in the dorm receive $5,000 per year for all four years they attend SVA. Principal Dale Twomley shares, “Zirkle provides an incredible opportunity to recognize incoming freshmen for academic achievement. The depth and breadth of spiritual, social, academic, work and life experiences at SVA is well-suited to students who are seeking to gain more from high school than the typical core class work.” *At second semester, SVA enrolled 5 more freshman students, for a current total of 59.

On the Flip Side: Character Development in Action; Fun & Easy Ways to Support SVA

SVA Character Development: Meet 2015-2016 First Semester Students of the Month Shenandoah Valley Academy is committed to providing expectations and opportunities for all students to understand, demonstrate and practice the Christian life-skills and character which will help them to become responsible citizens for successful living in this world and in the world to come. This striving for excellence in Christian character sets before each student the goal of being all he or she can be— “…attaining the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Eph. 4:1 Monthly character traits are emphasized during chapels, worships and faculty family prayer time. Students are encouraged to apply this trait in their daily interactions and to observe its presence in fellow students. At month’s end, the Student Association Senate selects candidates who exemplify this trait in word and action. The student body then elects a Student of the Month who best demonstrates the character trait of the month. In May, faculty and staff will select a Student of the Year who they believe has best demonstrated all 9 character traits emphasized during the school year.
