Self-Introduction I’m a 22-year-old girl from Kaohsiung. I like listening to music, playing piano, traveling and love to read. I think the thinking patterns in all of design fields are in the same way. As a result, I’m interested in many fields related to design. I love to brainstorm and solve problems. I’ll keep learning to make me have more abilities and different perspectives.

FODABLE FAITH

The concept is to design a series of unique products which present Taiwan’s culture.

20

Background

FOLDABLE FAITH

We cooperated with a local company named TMCM in Tainan. Origianlly, it’s a giant factor y about mental processing, and nowadays they want to expand their business into design feild. They’d like to produce a series of products to carr y for ward Taiwan’s Cultures, and to access into international markets.

We chose temple fair as our theme. Because temple fairs in Taiwan are related to our lives. They can be a representative of our religions. And one of the most ubiqitous things in the temple fairs is lantern. In the past, people considered lantern to be a communicational bridge with Gods. We extracted some elements from the shape of lanterns to design a series of furniture.

Method -Chair, high chair, table : Fold aluminum plates through press-brake forming, and be connected with each others by welding. Then paint the plates, and be combined with plates of leather on the top to increase the soft touch of the contact sur faces. -Light : Fold aluminum plates through press-brake forming, and be connected with each others by welding. Then paint the plates.

Market Analysis Image scale of mental chairs

Strength

Oppor tunity

-Mentals seem to be high-ranking, and are durable. -TMCM is talented at mental processing.

-Mental furniture is not universal in Taiwan. -Nowadays people star t emphasizing on design. -Through the image scale, we can see there is still less oriental metal furniture in the markets.

Weakness

Threat

-TMCM doesn’t have the exprience of making and selling their own products. -TMCM is not widely known in the world, and even in Taiwan.

Furniture markets tend to be saturated. If there are no innovation, distinguishing features, or special user experiences, it’s hard to have a place to live.

-Focus on producing their own products which contain Taiwan’s Cultures, and create the characteristics of TMCM. -Promote factor y tours to attempt to make the company transform into well-known enterprise.

Channels Marketing

Selling

-Put the series of furniture in the factor y to increase the exposure. (Because customers will tour the factor y) -Cooperate with local coffe shops, and then put the furniture in the shops. When people go to the shops, they can see and use the products. -Attend many national and international exhibitions. -TMCM -Online -Cooperate with HOLA

Design Process

Do some research

Discuss with the people from TMCM to know what they want

Choose a theme and extract the elements ( depends on the universality )

Taiwan's culture -Religions -Customs -Architecture -Histor y -etc.

HOME POINTER

It’s a pointer to show the direct of user’s home for people with light dementia.

Background

HOME POINTER

We cooperated with the non-governmental organization "YMCA" to solve the problems about the elder diagnozed with dementia. We visited the day care center, the eventide home of YMCA to inter view the patients and caregivers, and discussed with some physiotherapists to understand more about the situation.

Users Our target users are people who have light dementia. Because in this phase, the patients' cognitive functions haven't been damaged yet, many of them still live in their home as usual. And some patients even don't want to confess the illness. However, they sometimes will forget the way home. Getting lost is a big problem to them and their families. Background Users The Details

The Details Nowadays there are many products with GPS for the elder, but many users consider that they're under sur veillance with that kind of products so that they don't want to use them. Home Pointer is a new type of product only to show the direction of users' houses. Users can find their way home by themselves. Users can carr y it in different ways, which depends on their preferences. How to use it Take a home pointer to the user's home, and press the tiny button on the back of it to set the location. When the user walks over 5 km far away from home, the home pointer will ring ever y 5mins to notice the user that he/she is going too far away. This notification also can notice the existence of this product.

The arrow will always point the direction of user's home. When the user press the side button, it will ring ever y 30mins.

34

Background Ever y day Ms. Chen gets up early and goes to the traditional market near her home to buy some food for lunch. Though recently she's diagnosed with dementia, she insists to live as usual. She can't bear losing the freedom. However, her families were really worried about her missing problem. As a result, her family bought her a home pointer as a key strap so that she can go home by herself.

CONFUCIUS STUDYING WITH YOU

The concept is to enhance the connection between Tainan Confucius Temple and prayers, and to give prayers special experiences to pray for luck.

42

CONFUCIUS S.W.Y

Background Users

Background In Taiwanese trandition, ever y year when the exams are around the corner, many people flush into Tainan Confucius Temple to pray for luck for their friends or for themselves. However, we found that most of them don’t know exactly how to pray for luck, and there’s no guidance so that some of them even give up to take the incense ash(*1) . Besides, some people complait that the containers and the tools which are prepared from the staff are informal and not easy to find out and conser ve. Therefore, we wanted to design a product ser vice system to solve these problems, and the system also can bring some revenues for the temple to preser ve the historic sites.

Users According to our research, many people who pray for luck are for their friends. It's because not ever yone lives near Tainan. 1st Users People who want to pray for luck for their friends 2nd Users People who recieve the blessings from their friends Personas Lily is 20 years old. She’s not from Tainan. She has moved to Tainan for studying at college. Recently, her friend who lives in Lily’s hometown is going to have an exam. So she wants to go to Confucius Temple to pray for luck for her friend. However, she doesn’t know how to get the incense ash, and how to pray for luck because there's no guidance. She really wants to give sth. memorable to her friend.

Bob is 20 years old. Due to last time he failed the exam, he needs to prepare for it again. He sometimes received the blessing gifts from Lily, but he couldn’t feel the blessing and didn’t know anything about the gifts such as what the main meaning is. How would it help him on the exam? Does he need to thank the temple when he achieves the wishes?

The app"Confusius Studying With You" It can strengthen the connection between the examees and Confucius faith, which brings the prayers different experiences of praying.

When you recieve the postcard, you’ll see there’s a QR code on the back. Use your cellphone to scan the code.

Then there’ll be a downloading app page popping up. Download the app to enjoy the time of preparing the exam with this app.

There are four main functions in this app. -Daily Sentence from Confucius : Give you an encouraging sentence ever yday. -Your Goal : Set your goal(score). -Count Down The Days : When you input when you take the exam, the system will count down the days and show you it ever yday. -Your Transcript : After you finished your exam, the system will show you the transcript.

One is to give you an encouraging sentence.

The other is to show how many days are before the exam.

After you finished your exam, the system will show you whether you achieve your goal.Besides, if you choose “others” about the type of your exam in the beginning, you will not recieve the notification.

When you achieve your goal, you will recieve...

When you don’t achieve your goal, you will recieve... 54

Sun. afternoon -Obser vation Through obser vation we can know Whether the people get anything back after praying for luck, and What they use to pray for luck. (*1)Research Questions Confucius Temple -Why there are no specific announcements about the procedure of worshipping Gods? -Why do they charge for entering Confucius Temple? -What kind of par ticipants are they who usually come here?

The people who pray for luck for their friends

The people who recieve the blessings from their friends

-How do they worship Confucius? Are there any feedbacks? -What’s the meaning of that feedbacks? -Do they want to get sth. to prove they do go to Confucius Temple to pray for luck for thier friends?

-What kind of feedback can make them feel blessed? -If they get a substantial things from their friends, how do they use the things? Or where are those deposited?
