Études-Tableaux Op. 33 Tactile Sense: Intuitive Control and Beyond Jan - Jun, 2017
To explore how tactile and gesture can create a more efficient and more intuitive experience to communicate with vehicle while passenger is focusing on his/her main task.
With the trend of a autonomous future, We are not driving but focusing on what we do like we are in homes and offices. They mostly rely on their sight, auditory and motion to do the task. Like the current solutions which spread information all around, Passengers are likely hard to focus on their main tasks. And the system they are using now to communicate with the vehicle is switches, displays and voice assistant. However, these senses have been occupied by their main tasks.
The solution was inspired by the nature of human beings, we explore the world by touching stuffs around when we are babies. Also I took inspiration by people with low vision using smartphones. They only use tactile sense to communicate with the device. In this way not only normal people can control the vehicle without losing too much attention on their task but also people with sight problem can operate the vehicle.
Notification/ Standby area with tactile signal.
Gesture from passenger (reaction & command)
Tactile feedback to passenger to confirm the command or further operation.
To create tactile feedback. The material needs to have movement. I tested some patterns and one on a copper plate has the best flexibility. To apply it on my final model. I used parametric software to produce my own.

Sketched 3 dimensionally over a seat. Shaped the clay according to my hand. Tried whether it can be grabbed, comfortable to click, slide.
The sketches later on were based on these initial proposals which were finished using existing photos, I transformed and group them to create the mood.
The styling sketchesI tried to draw over pictures to preserve the original design language of the photoed stuffs.
Architecture inspired bottom frame and furniture inspired seat design.
Gulfstream the Car OCT - DEC, 2016
Gulfstream is a aviation company producing luxury private jet for elite people like businessmen, celebrities and Politicians. They usually use their planes to travel between world-class cities. This project is aim to extend theirLuxury journey by creating a seamless travel experience from one city to another.
Inspired by luxury apartment at tier-1 cities, which Residents can get in their cars inside their properties, and lifted down.
Gulfstream the Car uses the similar concept. Starting at sitting in the car, the car will commute passenger to the private jet and the whole cabin of the car will be lifted so there is no need to get out of the car. Interior of the car will be a part of the interior of the plane after lifted.
The project is focusing on tier 1 cities in China, the cities are well connected in the 2030. Many things can be done on Cloud.
And people in the cities are living intensively. They are exposed to information of all kinds which encourage them to build up their own preferences and taste. They will have friends many from other professional fields.“ Work hard, Play hard will be the slogan for most of them.
