Have Milwaukee County’s Finances Become Unmanageable? County officials struggle with plan to replace 90-year-old courthouse building!::BY DANIEL SHAW

ven without replacing Milwaukee County’s nearly 90-year-old Safety Building, local officials would have a hard time keeping their budgetary house in order in coming years. A recent report by the Wisconsin Policy Forum found that the county has anywhere between 12 and 16 buildings that are due for replacement. If the Safety Building could be responsibly ignored, the county’s expenditures on building projects would be on track to more than double to $26 million this year and then increase to $45 million next year. But the Safety Building, which houses court offices and some criminal courts, can no longer be ignored. !"#$% #$&% '()&* #+% ,-"./"01% 2(34% in the picture, the county’s finances begin to “appear -05(0(1&(2.&67% 8(90:% #$&% !":3;0:"0% <;."3+% =;9-5% >!<=?@%A$&%);9-5B#$&%C9;/-3#%;)%(%5&91&9%2&#8&&0% #$&% );95&9% <-2."3% <;."3+% =;9-5% (0/% #$&% !":3;0* :"0% A(DC(+&9:% E.."(03&B.;;4&/% (#% 2;#$% #$&% '()&#+% ,-"./"01% (0/% ;#$&9% 3;-0#+% 2-"./"01:% "0% (% C("9% ;)% 9&* cent reports: “The Jury is Out,” released in May, and “Cracks in the Foundation,” which was released last '&C#&52&9@% A$&%9&C;9#:%3;5&%(:%C(9#%;)%(%:&9"&:%5&(0#%#;%1&#% (%$(0/.&%;0%$;8%5-3$%#(DC(+&9:%8"..%$(F&%#;%C(+%"0% 3;5"01%+&(9:%);9%3-99&0#%3;55"#5&0#:%5(/&%2+%2;#$% the city and county of Milwaukee. !"#$!""%&'#(%)*'(#$)"%#+,+'%-#.+#$/-0*%12#difficult to navigate and inac! cessible to people with limited funds and resources. Especially for people from different cultural backgrounds, these challenges can feel impossible to overcome. But CORE El Centro understands health differently. To them, health is an elaborate web of pieces that we must tie together to be our best selves and that starts with a safe space to practice healing. When cofounders Jayne Ader and Madeline Gianforte started CORE El Centro 16 years ago, they saw a need for an understanding of healing and access to health services in the community. “People have this innate wisdom about their path, and each path is different, so, how do we help you find that?” says Ader. Their goal is to inspire individuals and families to achieve optimal health by offering affordable services in both the English and Spanish languages. CORE El Centro (130 W. Bruce St., Suite 300) treats members of the community that have limited access to health care due to low income, language barriers, cultural barriers and other factors. Most of the organization’s clients are Latino, but anyone is welcome for treatment. Their ability to connect with clients through language and culture is what makes CORE El Centro unique. When a client first visits the building, they meet with a staff mem! ber called a health navigator, who discusses their health concerns, problems at home and general troubles to truly understand the factors impacting their health. “They can really connect with what you are going through,” says Carla Del Pozo, direc! tor of the Integrative Health and Wellness Program. Health navigators are able to place the client with the best possible practitioners because they are trained community health work! ers and people from the community. In order to heal someone, CORE El Centro believes you must first get to know them and understand where their pain originated from. The organization is built with four main programs: Integrated Health and Wellness, Gar! dening and Nutrition, Children’s Wellness and Volunteers. They offer one-on-one sessions in therapies such as acupuncture and massage, as well as courses like reiki, yoga, gardening and nutrition. CORE El Centro has also built strong relationships over the years with their partners, such as Aurora Walker’s Point Clinic, the Healing Center and others. These close relationships allow CORE El Centro to confidently refer clients who are in need of different healing services than what they offer themselves. “Part of the mission is building community,” explains Ader. “By building community, you also heal.” When people are given access to health care through their own home lan! guage, cost and community members that understand their needs, people are able to better themselves and give back to their community. !"#"$%&'()%)*%&+,$-./#%0+1#"$+%2$%3.-+4+*3+,$-.5.-6%.-%32**%78749:74;<=9%>.-%?.-+%",4 >.-?2$".,5 &.??+,$%2$%#@+A@+-B+CA-+##53.?5%n

What’s New in Milwaukee !"#$%"&'%(#)&%*+&,#-.%*&/-0""& %-.&#*&'1.&2.*3 ::BY LACEY MUSZYNSKI

This month in dining news: A much-needed modern Korean restaurant, a pop-up party bar just for the World Cup and global tacos come to the Third Ward. Plus, a new location for a favorite sushi spot, and a bar reopens after a move.

Char’d

222 E. Erie St. • 414-885-2611 • chardmke.com • $$$

A new restaurant has moved into the former Hinterland space in the Third Ward. Char’d is an upscale modern Korean restaurant run by executive chef Yosub Yoon, who has worked all over the globe, including in Seoul. For lunch, the sleek restaurant will operate as a casual café with an abbreviated menu along with coffee, tea and smoothies. At night, a full menu and bar will be offered with a focus on the grill and ssam portion of the menu. Meats, like beef bulgogi ($25), are served on sizzling lava stones along with vegetables and dipping sauces, plus a basket of leafy greens for assembling wraps. There are also small plates and other entrées, including Korean fried chicken wings ($12), short ribs and bone marrow ($35) with potatoes, pickles and sweet potato purée, and steamed pork dumplings ($6).

Nomad Nacional

625 S. Fifth St. • 414-800-4529 • nomadfanzone.com • $-$$

A temporary bar and restaurant just for the World Cup has opened in the former La Fuente space in Walker’s Point. Nomad Nacional is an outpost of Nomad World Pub on Brady Street, which is well known as a soccer bar and spot to watch matches. This new pop-up gives fans a massive new space to watch the World Cup, along with two patios, countless TVs and a stage for live music. A menu of Latin Americaninspired fare includes arepas filled with pork shoulder ($5), fish tacos ($10) and

a frita Cubana sandwich ($7) topped with a fried egg and shoestring potatoes. Tropical drinks and a Good City-brewed ¡Nomad! Summer Ale will keep crowds hydrated. The restaurant will plan to stay open all summer, but what becomes of the space after that is still to be determined.

Blue Bat Kitchen & Taquilaria

249 N. Water St. • 414-431-1133 hospitalitydemocracy.com/blue-bat-kitchen • $$

A global street food restaurant and tequilaria has opened in the former Water Buffalo in the Third Ward. Blue Bat Kitchen is run by Hospitality Democracy, the same restaurant group that ran Water Buffalo. The space has been refreshed with new flooring, furniture and décor with warm wood, exposed brick and agave plant motifs. The menu consists of appetizers, bowls, salads and tacos. Flavors are eclectic, with options like sweet corn hush puppies ($6.50), a Moroccan cauliflower bowl ($12) with golden raisins and harissa, and tacos with fillings from smoked brisket ($3.75) with Alabama white barbecue sauce to Baja ($3.75) with fried fish and cilantro slaw. The tequila and mezcal menu includes more than 150 varieties, including flights ($18-$21) and a variety of cocktails.

Kanpai 2

2150 N. Prospect Ave. • 414-885-2524 kanpaimilwaukee.com • $$

Kanpai has opened a second location in the former Izumi’s building on the East Side. The space has been fully remodeled with a modern aesthetic and plans are in the works to build a patio, though that will likely not be open until late this year. The menu at Kanpai 2 is the same as the original location with a focus on maki and sashimi with appetizers and entrées from the kitchen.

Boone & Crockett/Taco Moto

818 S. Water St. • 414-212-8115 •boonemilwaukee.com • $

Boone & Crockett and Taco Moto have completed their move to a new location. The new space, located farther north in Harbor View, is brighter and more spacious. The cozy, inviting feel is the same, however, with multicolored stained wood accents, taxidermy and a centerpiece chandelier. Taco Moto (formerly Gypsy Taco), which had been permanently parked on B&C’s patio, has also made the move and will continue dishing up modern tacos to go with signature cocktails. A patio is in the works, and the large event space next door operated by B&C, The Cooperage, is open and available for rent.

Nestled in a corner of Milwaukee Public Market, Margarita Paradise (400 N. Water St.) purveys imaginative Mexican fare prepared promptly within the indoor shopping and dining plaza. The menu isn’t much longer than the counter space that provides its only seating, but is packed with fresh takes on basic items in one of the most popular of ethnic cuisines. Among Paradise’s tacos, diners may have their own built from lists of meats and fixings or opt for a number of specialty selections. Among the latter, grilled chicken, shrimp and al pastor pork are garnished with such complements as pineapple avocado and sprinkles of chihuahua cheese on freshly prepared corn or white flour tortillas; the more basic varieties may be tried at an enticing deal of three for $5 on Tuesday. And if concerns over budget or sobriety take Margarita Paradise’s signature tequila-based beverages out of consideration, sweet, milky horchata topped with a generous garnish of cinnamon makes for a fine way to down its south-of-the-Rio Grande street eating.

an the Milwaukee Ballet meet the classical ballet challenge?” Michael Pink joked rhetorically at the start of our interview. “Of course they can!” he answered. There’s no question that watching the dancers leap hurdles is part of the pleasure of Swan Lake, as is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s music performed by live orchestra. The story is interesting, too, especially as Pink has revised it from the Russian original. Storytelling is his choreographic forte. He brings to Swan Lake elements of modern realism in terms of the characters’ psychologies and their physical and social environment. To that end, he separates the traditional dual role of White Swan and Black Swan, with the added benefit that the two swans can appear together. He also shortens the ballet’s original “dance spectacular” structure, condensing four acts into two; and he positions the magician, Count von Rothbart, as conniver and driver of the tragedy, a power-hungry perversion of The Nutcracker’s generous toymaker. When I asked for his thoughts on the challenges, Pink said, “It’s interesting how, with a company this diverse, not everybody’s playing from the same training manual.” The Milwaukee Ballet includes dancers that have trained in Cuba, the U.S. and elsewhere, “and their base of training really gets exposed when you do these standard classical ballets. You really begin to see if people can meet the types of demands that have been in these ballets for years. “In Swan Lake,” he continues, “we know that the Black Swan has to spin around on one leg for 32 fouettés, the Prince has to do his variations and the swans have to dance in perfect geometric forms. Those are good challenges for any company. They really over-expose your dancers. That’s a good thing because if any of them feel self-conscious about any aspect of their technique, now is the time to get over it and rise to the challenge.” Leading artist Nicole Teague-Howell will dance Odette, the White Swan, for the first time. She was part of the “swan corps” when the company last presented Pink’s production in 2013 and she loved it, she said, “but obviously Odette is a dream role. The challenges are definitely in the technique, the integrity of the technique and of the ballet traditions. The delicate precision and the port a bras (the way the arms are used) is iconic.”

A San Diego native, Teague-Howell joined Milwaukee Ballet’s pre-professional company in 2006, was hired to the main company in 2008 and is now a leading artist. “What I’m most excited about, honestly, is doing Michael’s version,” she said. “We get to have our hair down like we’ve just crawled out of the lake. We have bare legs and the choreography feels human and animalistic both. The way we enter—the transformation, I’m going to sound ridiculous but—it’s almost like a werewolf because we really transform from bird to woman. It’s a painful process and she has to do this every night. I think in her mind she’s confused; she’s turning into a woman but she’s a swan in reality. When the Prince comes to see her, she’s not the person she used to be, she doesn’t recognize him now and she’s afraid. There’s a human coming at her and she’s just a bird. It’s dramatic and lovely. And then when Milwaukee she dies, tragic.” Ballet Leading artist Marize FumSwan Lake ero, a Cuban native in her fourth year with the company, Marcus will dance the Black Swan, Center for the Odile, for the first time. It’s Performing Arts one of her dreams as well, she May 31 - June 3 said. I asked about the famous 32 fouettés. “We’re working on that,” she answered. “Every single day in class we’re working on technique. So when I go onstage, I don’t forget about technique but I already have it in my body. I trust the technique that I’ve been working on and just go one hundred percent with my heart. I feel chills and all that. For me, it’s like—what is the best I can do in that role? I don’t feel pressure from the tradition because every time it’s different. In ballet, it’s what you’re feeling right in the moment, so comparing performances would be pointless. For me, it’s not what the audience sees but what they feel when they’re watching.” Fumero joins Luz San Miguel as Odette and Davit Hovhannisyan as Prince Siegfried. The alternating cast combines Teague-Howell with Annia Hidalgo and Randy Crespo. San Miguel, Hovhannisyan and Hidalgo are reprising their roles. I watched them all in rehearsal explore the possibilities of the characters and choreography, making it their own. They rehearsed in character to Tchaikovsky as rendered by Steven Ayers on piano. The seasoned dancers shared their knowledge with the newcomers. Pink stopped when anything went wrong. They laughed, made jokes and tried again. It was beautiful, this dancing, this music, this commitment to art. 7:30 p.m. May 31-June 2; and 1:30 p.m. June 2-3 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, 929 N. Water St. For tickets call 414-9022103 or visit milwaukeeballet.org.

Any Number Can Die “Just about everyone loves a good mystery,” says director Carol Dolphin. “That’s why we keep producing them here at Sunset Playhouse.” Indeed, the past few seasons have seen Murder on the Nile, Sherlock Holmes and And Then There Were None brought to the stage at the Elm Grove theater. This time around, it’s Fred Carmichael’s Any Number Can Die, which Dolphin describes as “not just a mystery, but also a spoof of mysteries in general—and of the broad acting style of films in the late 1920s.” In Any Number Can Die, four ingenious murders take place in an island mansion called Raven’s Head (sounds inviting!) off the coast of South Carolina. A pair of elderly detectives have their work cut out for them; a serious storm erupts outside, unexpected guests arrive, a cryptic poem is discovered and a missing fortune all add to the whodunnit goings on. As Dolphin explains, “There are trap doors and secret passageways, failing electricity and mistaken identities, multiple murders and clues gasped with dying breaths. Sound a bit like an extended cliché? Well, you will find them all in Any Number Can Die.” (John Jahn) May 31-June 17 at Furlan Auditorium, 700 Wall St. For tickets, call 262-782-4430 or visit sunsetplayhouse.com.

Heathers: The Musical Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy’s Heathers: The Musical is a rock musical based on the 1988 cult film Heathers. Starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty, the film portrays the lives of four teenage girls—three of whom are named Heather—in a clique at Westerbert High School in Ohio. The story seeks to open conversations among its viewers about typical teen issues such as bullying, suicidal ideation and school violence (how little has changed in the last three decades—which makes the Heathers story all the more pertinent to today’s audiences). Sunset Playhouse suggests this dark comedy musical for mature audiences given the adult situations, suggested drug use, bullying, explicit language and killing. Killing!? Yes—the four Heathers are being plotted against by a “misfit” student named Veronica and her damaged romantic wildcard of a boyfriend, Jason (“JD”). After a sold-out Los Angeles tryout, Heathers: The Musical quickly moved Off-Broadway in 2014. It has been well-received there as well as in productions taking place ever since in San Francisco, Sydney, Australia and London’s Off West End. It plays in Elm Grove’s Sunset Playhouse as part of the company’s After Sunset Studio Series. (John Jahn) June 7-10 at Furlan Auditorium, 700 Wall St. For tickets, call 262-782-4430 or visit sunsetplayhouse.com.

Village Playhouse 33rd Annual One Act Play Festival In 1984, a fateful Milwaukee theater collaboration took place. The Third Coast Playwrights approached the Village Playhouse of Wauwatosa to request space to stage the winning submissions from their playwriting contest. The Playhouse said yes, and the festival was born. Now in its 33rd year, it is the longest-running festival of its kind in the United States, according to Erico Ortiz, owner of the Playhouse’s venue, Inspiration Studios, and director of one of this year’s one acts. The festival’s emphasis is on presenting new works in a wide range of styles and fostering artists willing to work on a “no-frills budget.” Ortiz describes the festival as a place where “potential playwrights, directors and actors are born.” Although submissions are open to all Wisconsin residents, works do undergo a rigorous review process by a committee of Village Playhouse members who read all the submissions and carefully rank them. Uniquely, the festival affords audience members the opportunity to vote for their favorites in categories including actor, script, director and set design after each performance. Awards are later presented to the participants during the company’s July membership meeting. This year’s festival offerings were culled from 19 submissions and include a trilogy of works by Deanna Strasse, as well as pieces by Nick Schweitzer, Mark Borchardt and Mike Willis. Storylines run the gamut from old flames disrupting settled domestic life to little girls airing adult agendas while playing with dolls. (Selena Milewski) June 1-17 at Inspiration Studios, 1500 S. 73rd St. For tickets, call 414-207-4879 or visit villageplayhouse.org. SHEPHERD EXPRESS

::THISWEEKINMILWAUKEE FRIDAY, JUNE 1

!

Bay View Gallery Night/Jazz Fest @ multiple venues

Bay View wasn’t the first Milwaukee neighborhood to host its own gallery night, but its gallery night is easily one of the biggest in the city, with literally dozens of bars, cafés, shops and businesses participating—even barber shops, salons, pet shops and skin care businesses get in on the action. The event begins at 5 p.m., and you’ll want to arrive early because it features more art than any person could ever take in on a single night. Adding to an already busy schedule, the gallery night coincides with a Food Truck Friday event in Morgan Park featuring a small army of food trucks and festive music from Bembemke and Samba da Vida, as well as the neighborhood’s Jazz Fest, which is hosting shows at venues as diverse as Tonic Tavern, The Highbury Pub, D14 Brewery and Pub, Sam’s Tap and Voyageur Books. Performers include the Kevin Hayden Band, KASE, Funky Chemists, the Jeannine Rivers Quartet, the Brett Westfahl Quartet and many others. To check out the massive lineup, visit bvgn.org.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks w/ Lithics @ The Back Room at Colectivo, 8 p.m.

Save for an enjoyable but low-stakes reunion with Pavement, one of the most beloved and influential indie-rock bands of the ’90s, Stephen Malkmus has never been one to look back. Each of his solo albums with his band the Jicks marched to the beat of its own drum, and that’s especially true of his latest album for Matador Records, Sparkle Hard, his first since 2014’s Wig Out at Jagbags. As tuneful and seemingly effortless as his best records with Pavement, Sparkle Hard finds the eternally youthful musician taking big risks and making them seem like no big deal, incorporating strings, singing about Black Lives Matter, duetting with Kim Gordon and even playing around with Auto-Tune on a couple of tracks. It’s a reminder that, even after all these decades, Malkmus is still one of indie rock’s greats.

THURSDAY, MAY 31

!

Riverwest FemFest @ multiple venues

Riverwest FemFest continues its marathon eight-day 2018 lineup with a bevy of shows at venues spread across the neighborhood. On Thursday, Club Timbuktu hosts a bill featuring Rocket Paloma, Sweet Lala, Luxi and others, while Mad Planet hosts a lineup of music and burlesque headlined by Miss Sunshine Ramel and featuring DJ Alien Dance and DJ Jen Dub. Friday features three shows, one at the Back Room at Colectivo featuring Sista Strings and LASKA; one at the Public House featuring Plague Walker, Zed Kenzo, Fox Face and others; and a huge eight-act showcase at High Dive rounded out by Iron Pizza, Lauryl Sulfate and Sypher Lady X. Saturday is highlighted by a maker’s market and day-long, two-stage lineup of music at Company Brewing, featuring Nickel & Rose, Faux Fiction, Heavy Looks, Shle Berry, Kia Rap Princess and Kaylee Crossfire and many others, including lots of DJs. And then the festival wraps up a very eventful eight days on Sunday with another two-stage showcase at Company—featuring RuthB8r Ginsberg, Gas Station Sushi, The Glacial Speed, Amanda Huff, Winter Bear and many others—and an after party at High Dive starting at 10 p.m., featuring the No Stress Dance Collective and Queen Tut.

Jazz in the Park: The Jazz Orgy @ Cathedral Square Park, 5 p.m.

Milwaukee is lucky to host several weekly summer concert series at parks throughout the county, but few are as admired or anticipated at Cathedral Square’s signature Jazz in the Park series, now in its 27th year. This year’s Thursday night series runs through Thursday, Aug. 30, with an array of regional jazz, blues and funk bands and kicks off its season with Oshkosh’s The Jazz Orgy, a jammy combo featuring keyboardist Mark Martin, bassist Andy Mertens, drummer Mike Underwood and singersaxophonist Steve Cooper. 16 | M AY 3 1 , 2 0 1 8

SATURDAY, JUNE 2

FAT Fest @ Crafty Cow/Hot Head Chicken, noon

The “FAT” in FAT Fest isn’t a reference to weight, but rather an acronym for “Food Art Tunes,” and there will be plenty of all three at this inaugural street festival hosted on South Lenox Street and South Kinnickinnic Avenue by the Bay View restaurants Craft Cow and Hot Head Chicken. They’ll both be serving food, as will Batches Milwaukee and The Vanguard. On the tunes side, there will be music from Whiskey & The Devil, Thompson Springs, Vincent VanGREAT, Chicken Wire Empire, No No Yeah Okay and Madison’s KOI, and on the art side there will be a variety of vendors and live demos. Once the festival winds down around 8 p.m., there will be an afterparty inside featuring Klassik.

Milwaukee Highland Games/Scottish Fest @ Hart Park, 9 a.m.

Few of Milwaukee’s ethnic festivals have as rich a history as the Highland Games, a boisterous celebration of Scottish culture now in its 81st year. Once again organizers have lined up a full day of axe throwing and cricket demonstrations, archery, knight fights and stone throwing. There will also be a variety of Scottish food, working sheepdogs, bagpipe music, a traditional céilidh dance gathering and a spectacular Parade of Tartans featuring marching drummers and pipers. Admission is $10 or free for kids 12 and under. Adults can save $3 at the gate before 10 a.m. with a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Milwaukee.

UPAF Ride for the Arts

SUNDAY, JUNE 3

Prismatic Flame Summer Kickoff Event @ Kadish Park, noon-10 p.m.

UPAF Ride for the Arts @ Summerfest Grounds

Regulars at Milwaukee festivals like the Bay View Bash and PrideFest may have been lucky enough to catch a set from Prismatic Flame, a truly daring Milwaukee fire performance troupe. The troupe will share some of the secrets of their live show at this event, which will feature live music, food and art vendors, as well as six hours’ worth of free workshops covering dance, juggling, yoga and circus arts. The day culminates in a 7:30 p.m. fire performance at the park’s amphitheater. See this issue’s Off the Cuff for an interview with Ananda Walker, coleader and fire safety manager of Prismatic Flame.

Since 1981, riders have raised millions of dollars for the United Performing Arts Fund as part of the Ride for the Arts, one of the nation’s largest recreational bike rides. All riders are welcome. Routes start at an easy five miles and go up to 70 miles for more serious riders, but all of them are plenty scenic, making good use of the city’s lakefront. The day ends with a big party at the finish line featuring music, snacks (including free hot dogs), ice cream, a beer sampling and family entertainment. Proceeds will benefit a litany of performing arts groups.

SUNDAY, JUNE 3

Brewtown Rumble @ Fuel Café Walker’s Point, 11 a.m.

TUESDAY, JUNE 5

Harley-Davidson still looms large over Milwaukee motorcycle culture, but Harley’s annual gathering is no longer the only big motorcycle event in town. Now in its fourth year—and at a new location in Walker’s Point—the Brewtown Rumble pairs a ride-in vintage motorcycle show with food trucks, a pin-up show and music from God’s Outlaw and RadioRadio. Is your bike in awful shape? It really doesn’t matter. All makes and models of motorcycles are welcome here. Looking to get the party started early? There will be several pre-parties in the days leading up to the event, including one presented by sponsor Royal Enfield on Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. at the Iron Horse Hotel.

JUNE 15-17

Chill on the Hill: Lex Allen @ Humboldt Park, 6 p.m.

Ask any Bay View resident with a dog, a child or a picnic basket what their favorite summer event is, and there’s a good chance they’ll answer with Chill on the Hill, the neighborhood’s popular Tuesday night concert series at the Humboldt Park bandshell. This year’s series kicks off on a high note with a performance from one of Milwaukee’s great showmen, Lex Allen, a body-positive soul, R&B and hip-hop singer with a sensuous voice and a very glamorous live show. He’ll perform after the Parkside Drum Line warms the stage.

Federico Uribe, Horse #1, laminate wood scraps , 2010 PHOTO COURTESY OF ADELSON GALLERIES, BOSTON

::BY TYLER FRIEDMAN

olombian-born, Miami-based artist Federico Uribe is fêted for his use of atypical, yet appropriate, artistic materials. Uribe, for instance, shapes thousands of spent bullet casings into stunningly life-like animal trophies and repurposes everyday detritus such as screws into elaborate human forms. Wausau’s Woodson Art Museum has commissioned Uribe to create a site-specific, large-scale, walk-in environment, “The World According to Federico Uribe,” which opens to the public on Saturday, June 2. Uribe’s childhood in war-torn Bogotá, Colombia, has had a lasting influence on his approach. “I have the hope,” says Uribe, “that people who relate to my sculptures and live with them, will see the love I put into them. I want people to feel that I do this with a lot of careful attention and the purpose of beauty. I give my life to my work and I want people to see it.” While his work is informed by art history and a distinctive aesthetic vision, Uribe is clear about his fundamental aim: “I’m more interested in making people smile, rather than telling them what to think.” Uribe will lead a gallery walk and speak about his work from 1-2 p.m. on opening day, Saturday, June 2.

For the past six years, the Milwaukee Jewish Artists’ Laboratory has selected a handful of artists and a theme ripe for Jewish thought and creativity. The current crop of artists has been reflecting on “Crossing the Threshold,” including, in the words of Jody Hirsh, JCC Director of Judaic Education, questions such as “What are thresholds that Jews have crossed throughout the centuries? How is this concept relevant to us today?” The artists’ answers will be unveiled at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 3.

Karen Johnson Boyd (1924-2016) was a major collector of contemporary American craft and, having donated nearly 1,700 works to the Racine Art Museum, helped create RAM’s reputation as the premier institution for such work. The museum is celebrating Boyd’s patronage with an exhibition drawn entirely from her gifts to RAM. “Honoring Karen Johnson Boyd” highlights fiber art, work from Japan, work from Perimeter Gallery (which Boyd founded in Chicago in 1982) and functional ceramics. The exhibition is on display through Dec. 30.

[ FILM CLIPS ] Action Point R Johnny Knoxville returns as the unstoppable daredevil risking pain and bodily injury to entertain the audience that can’t seem to get enough of his hijinks. Knoxville plays D.C., the proprietor of a low-rent amusement park that responds to its slick, corporate competition by creating scarier, less safe rides in an effort to wow patrons. The crashes you see are real, at least where Knoxville is concerned. His eye socket was broken on the set and subsequently, that eyeball popped out of its orbit on two occasions. Knoxville’s fearless antics translate into big box office receipts, but I hope he spends every dime because each film could well be his last. (Lisa Miller) ‘Solo’

Adrift PG-13 This true account is based upon the novel Red Sky in Mourning by Tami Oldham Ashcraft. It’s a riveting story. I know this, or more accurately, I believe this, because my mother happens to be an acquaintance of the author and has read of her book. Having met and become engaged to soulmate Richard (Sam Claflin), 23-year-old Tami (Shailene Woodley) joins him on a 4,000mile sailing trip from Tahiti to San Diego. The romantic voyage turns deadly when they are caught in a category five (that is, really powerful) hurricane. Tami spent 41 days battling to get their broken craft to safety, and her survival is a triumph of fortitude and determination. (L.M.)

Upgrade R Left paralyzed by the same brutal attackers who killed his wife, Grey Trace (Logan MarshallGreen) accepts a billionaire’s offer for an experimental cure via technology. Determined to take revenge against his wife’s killers, Grey soon discovers that the chip, newly implanted in his neural network, is faster and more accurate than his adversaries when he grants it control of his body. The film showcases inventive ways to kill, walking the line between comic and grisly. Eventually, Trace confronts another person with similar abilities, but as he works to unravel a mystery that is obvious to viewers, the film fails to fully deliver on its premise. (L.M.)

[ HOME MOVIES / NOW STREAMING ] In Between (Bar Bahar)

In lesser hands, a film about three very different Palestinian-Israeli women sharing a Tel Aviv flat could be dull social drama. Instead, filmmaker Maysaloun Hamoud keeps the rhythm snappy and the story entertaining—even when it turns brutal or poignant. Two of the women are cosmopolitan clubgoers dancing to Arab techno. The other is studious and from a conservative Islamic background. All three face casual prejudice in a society where they are seen as outsiders.

Seven

Let’s see: a dramatic cop-show jazz soundtrack, squealing tires on the streets of “Hawaii Five-0” Honolulu, gobs of bright local color, tropical drinks and a well-oiled murder spree—all of this before the end of the opening credits. Even more retro: Those credits are typed out on an IBM Selectric. Seven (1979) features plenty of bikini-clad vixens and lots of wooden acting in a plot about criminals hired by the feds to kill other criminals.

Blaze

Decades before U.S. politics became a freak show, Louisiana led the way for absurdity. Blaze (1989) is a comedy about erratic Gov. Earl Long (Paul Newman) and his exotic dancer girlfriend Blaze Starr (Lolita Davidovich). It’s funny but the funny thing is that it’s not far from the truth. Confined to the state mental hospital, Long fired the director and appointed a man who released him. Newman endows Long with pathos as well as humor.

The Half-Breed

D.W. Griffith directed the egregiously racist The Birth of a Nation, but is credited with “production supervision” on this pro-Native American picture. The Half-Breed (1916) stars Douglas Fairbanks as the son of a Cherokee woman and a corrupt sheriff facing hatred and obstacles at every turn. White “superiority” is mocked and WASP pretensions are skewered in this well-made film, shot in natural settings and demonstrating the rapid progress of the craft of cinema in the 1910s. —David Luhrssen SHEPHERD EXPRESS

The Communist Manifesto

.

(SELFMADEHERO), BY KARL MARX AND FRIEDRICH ENGELS, ADAPTED BY MARTIN ROWSON

Does anyone still think history is determined by laws as immutable as those that govern chemistry and biology? British illustrator-writer Martin Rowson is among a growing chorus that doesn’t accept every line of Marx but thinks he got something right. The Communist Manifesto was a slender pamphlet that shook the world for its critique of capitalist greed and its call to action. “You have nothing to lose but your chains” it said. Well, and maybe your life, since many of Marx’s followers decided that lives should be sacrificed on the road to Utopia. However, Rowson’s cheeky commentary is a reminder that Marx didn’t necessarily care for Marxists. His Hieronymus Bosch-meetssteampunk illustrations are a dark marvel and a delight. (David Luhrssen)

There Are No Dead Here: A Story of Murder and Denial in Colombia (NATION BOOKS), BY MARIA MCFARLAND SÁNCHEZ-MORENO

Colombia’s most recent bout of political violence erupted in the 1960s when the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) and other rebel groups began a guerilla war. The situation was complicated by the rising demand for cocaine in the U.S. and the armed cartels servicing that market. The rebels also began dealing drugs and the country’s right responded with paramilitary groups that devolved into death squads and criminal gangs. In There Are No Dead Here, human-rights activist Maria McFarland Sánchez-Moreno concentrates on those paramilitaries and their ties to the country’s army and government. She examines three brave men who opposed them: a prosecutor, an activist and a journalist. One is dead and the others remain in danger. Although Colombia’s tragedy was relegated to the international back pages after the 2016 peace accord between the government and FARC, the problems haven’t ended. (David Luhrssen)

he Wisconsin Historical Society Press’ book Somos Latinas (“We Latinas”): Voices of Wisconsin Latina Activists first began as part of a UW-Madison course in an effort to engage students in documenting the lives of Latina women in Wisconsin. In 2012, Andrea-Teresa Arenas worked with her students to highlight the mostly unrecognized community organizing efforts of Latinas across the state. What they uncovered were dozens of dynamic stories of change-makers working to positively impact society in education, civil rights, women’s rights, domestic abuse services, immigration reform, political representation, peace and justice, and other areas. Twenty-five of these women are profiled in the new book Somos Latinas, where they tell stories of community activism and share personal lessons on living with passion. Each powerful narrative in this collection provides proof of the long-standing and important legacy of Latina activism in Wisconsin. Somos Latinas was edited by Arenas, who recently retired from her position at UW-Madison as a Chicano/a and Latino/a Studies Faculty Affiliate and director of the Office of Service Learning and Community-Based Research (College of Letters & Science), and Eloisa Gómez, the director of the Milwaukee County UW-Extension Office and former vice president of the Latino Historical Society of Wisconsin. Their new anthology includes a foreword by famed labor leader and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta, who, among her accomplishments, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association with César Chávez in 1962 and has gone on to receive many prestigious awards including the United States Presidential Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Arenas and Gómez will speak about their new book at the Milwaukee Public Library-Mitchell Street Branch at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, in an event co-sponsored by Boswell Book Company.

!"#$%&'(#)&('*)+#)(',-$#), ::BY DAVID LUHRSSEN Reaching for the rat-a-tat, “boil it hard—harder!” style of Mickey Spillane, Milwaukee’s Douglas Armstrong has penned a crime novel, Life on the Sun, that unfolds during the time of the Vietnam War. The setting he knows well: Armstrong was a reporter for many years (and eventually film critic) at the sadly defunct Milwaukee Journal and probably remembers the clack-clack of Underwoods on deadline. In Life on the Sun, a fire of suspicious origins on the city’s South Side turns up the body of a notorious draft dodger and fugitive (who happens to be the son of a conservative city official). Will a cub reporter trace the clues to their source? The plot thickens from then on. Armstrong will talk about Life on the Sun at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, at Boswell Book Co.

!"#$%&'#() *+&%,! "#$%&'!()! *#"+,(-.. Off the Cuff with troupe leader Ananda Walker ::BY SELENA MILEWSKI

This week, Off the Cuff spoke with Ananda Walker, coleader and fire safety manager of Milwaukee fire performance troupe, Prismatic Flame. We discussed the meditative properties of fire performance, Prismatic Flame’s offerings and the troupe’s free summer kick-off event at Kadish Park on Saturday, June 2. What drew you to fire performance? I would say it was the flow state that drew me in. [Quoting the Flow Arts Institute] “What is Flow Art? Flow art involves a variety of movement-based disciplines combined with creative expression to achieve the present-moment awareness known as Flow.” It may also be described as “in the zone” with an energized focus. This can be achieved individually as well as in groups and teams. It is said that frequently achieving a state of Flow is a key component to happiness, and we want to spread that happiness to others. For me, it’s really about being in that zone where your conscious mind shuts off and you are what you’re doing. What are training and performance creation like for Prismatic Flame? In the Flow Arts community at large, we have a lot of festivals around the nation where we’ll get together and teach each other workshops. Then, when Prismatic Flame gets together as a troupe, we teach each other and create choreography. We incorporate the tech elements—that’s basically prop manipulation—and dance: footwork, bodywork and blocking. We do cir22 | M AY 3 1 , 2 0 1 8

cus arts, too—cartwheels and handstands, stuff like that. We have a couple of main choreographers in the group: Sarah Beyler, Lynn Zsopinski, myself and Derek D’Agrella. We’re usually the leads for the choreography, but we all contribute to the pieces. It’s collaborative and everyone takes ownership. That creates a better end product. What services does Prismatic Flame offer? Fire performance with dance elements is our main thing. We do festivals around Milwaukee, fundraisers, private parties, birthday parties, corporate gigs. We have done a memorial service, and we’re about to do a performance at a senior rehabilitation facility. So, a wide variety of acts. Is teaching part of what Prismatic Flame’s about as well? Yep. We like to incorporate the community in our form as much as we can. A couple of our members teach workshops out of Elemental Design, and we did a Kickstarter where people bought workshops. We also participate in Flow Jams. Basically, a bunch of people who are into juggling, poi, hoop or any kind of flow prop get together in a space, and there’s usually a DJ, and then we just flow to the music. We teach each other one-on-one. Sometimes they turn the lights out and we do LED. It’s a good time. What can attendees expect from the workshops and performance at Kadish Park? We’re going to have workshops for six hours [noon-6 p.m.] in the beginning of the day. We have stuff that’s specifically geared toward kids, including juggling and poi, and then there are workshop slots for adults that are more high tech. There will also be yoga, hip-hop and belly dance workshops. Opening acts are at 7 p.m., and our set will start about 7:30 p.m. It will be all fully choreographed group fire with emcee Ryan Ducham. Nine of our 10 troupe members will be there, and we have eight group pieces. Prismatic Flame’s Summer Kick-Off takes place Saturday, June 2 at Kadish Park (750 E. North Ave.) from 12-10 p.m. It is presented in association with COA Youth & Family Centers with sponsorship from Some Place Nice, Art*Bar, Dream Vacations and Art Smart’s Dart Mart and Juggling Emporium. Leo Kottke

!"#$%#&&'"$#($ )*+&,-./$01#2"&3+(4$ !+'"$56."..+#(7 ::BY DAVID LUHRSSEN

eo Kottke is a veteran musician with a distinct personal style on his instrument and particular ties to Milwaukee. UW-Milwaukee sponsors the Leo Kottke Guitar Workshop every summer, and the guitarist’s approach to playing inspired an unusual curricular track at UWM’s Peck School of the Arts music department. Kottke has been playing in Milwaukee for as long as anyone can remember—longer in fact than he can remember. “I don’t,” he answers when asked if he can recall his first time in town. “Would have been a long time ago, I think.” But he does recall speaking at the Guitar Workshop on three occasions. “To everyone’s dismay, I do like to talk,” says the laconic guitarist. His instrument does most of the communicating during his solo concerts, but he is also known for his dry selfdeprecation and for spinning amusing tales between songs. His relations with UWM began with a fan on the faculty, John Stropes, the Peck School’s director of guitar studies. “He notates my stuff and that’s how it started,” Kottke explains. “He also created—there were others involved of course, but I only know John—the first BA for finger-style guitar. Unique in academia.” Kottke also received an honorary doctorate in music from UWM.

As the name suggests, finger-style means literally plucking the guitar strings with fingers or picks attached to the fingers, rather than plucking individual notes with a single pick. But finger-style is especially associated with the folk-blues-country playing traditions that inform much of Kottke’s work. “Oh, it chose me,” Kottke says of the guitar. “I know that because I played violin, then trombone. I loved them. But they were goofy marriages. The guitar is some kind of surprise, all the time. It’s home.” He had a brief stint in a ’60s garage band. “I played in The Blackwells for one night at the Domino bar in St. Cloud, Minn.” he says. “The Blackwells fired me the next morning—not the next day, the next morning!” From there it was on to the folk revival scene at a Minneapolis coffeehouse called The Scholar, the place where, a few years earlier, an unknown called Bob Dylan played his first gigs. “It was bad, meaning I was,” Kottke recounts. “There were some good spots, but it takes time to learn performance, and The Scholar gave me that.” Kottke’s music evades easy pigeonholing. His roots may be in the ’60s folk scene, but while most guitarists of that ilk were content to carry a tune, the model of great classical music guitarists with astonishing prowess stood before him. Nowadays, his CDs can sometimes be found in the classical bins of record stores, but Kottke’s repertoire has little to do with Andres Segovia or John Williams. Back in the late 1960s and early ’70s, he was sometimes heard on freeform FM rock radio, but aside from a magisterial rendition of The Byrds’“Eight Miles High,” and recordings made in the ’00s with Phish’s Mike Gordon, the links to rock in Kottke’s music are only vestigial roots in the blues. Ranked as one of the 100 greatest guitarists by Rolling Stone, John Fahey was the artist who provided Kottke with a template for unconventional tunings, a deft hand at maintaining simultaneous bass and lead lines and the possibility of matching the skill set of a Segovia with a repertoire compounded from the roots of folk, blues, ragtime, country and bluegrass juiced by exposure to thorny modernist composers. Think Béla Bartók with Kansas City blues syncopation. “John gave me my whole working life,” Kottke says of his brilliantly idiosyncratic if not eccentric mentor. “And he was Leo Kottke my friend, whoever he was. Wilson Theater Zoot Simms said Stan Getz was at Vogel Hall a great bunch of guys; there Saturday, was only one John, but he was June 9, 8 p.m. elusive.” Kottke’s own story involves overcoming partial hearing loss at a young age and, in the 1980s, tendinitis aggravated by his vigorous style of guitar playing. “There’s no thought to these musical things,” he says when asked if those maladies made him wonder whether he should continue to pursue music. For him, music “isn’t a deliberate endeavor—and it’s hardly an endeavor. And it’s not passion, I detest that word, leave that one to Elmer Fudd. But it’s probably some kind of nuts. Something like obsession.” Leo Kottke performs at 8 p.m., June 9 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts’ Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall, 123 E. State St.

::ALBUMS John Kruth & La Società dei Musici Forever Ago (ARS SPOLETIUM) In his liner notes, John Kruth admits the songs on Forever Ago, his 10th album, came from a mix of orphan songs and others written for this album. But you wouldn’t know it. The recording and performances by his collaborators La Società dei Musici sound like a band that has been playing together for a long time. Recording with an Italian musical group in a studio in landlocked Umbria, Italy, Kruth faced challenges including the need to overcome language barriers. But if you have followed the one-time Milwaukee resident’s recording and writing career you already know he is always up for an adventure. Unafraid to veer from silly to wistful, the songs range from a stripped down vocal/harmonica blues to an arrangement including a full-blown choir. He gets points for tasteful use of flute and harmonica, and the band is empathetic in serving the songs. Travel, religion, birds and out-of-doors are the obvious themes. “Christmas Eve” adds the Bisse Choir to the true story of Milwaukeean Paul Finger who made a delivery of toys, fruit and candy “to some folks who lived across the river”; in “Old Communist” Kruth again relates the true story of Croation churches filled with former Communists with accordion and mandolin evoking memories. “Vacation” uses a delicate, droning melody to evoke the story of a nun suffering heatstroke at roadside that includes enough imagery to be a novel or a movie— heat, temptation, slow burning drama, metaphors, allusions, tragedy, hope. It is poetry in motion. —Blaine Schultz

The Cars Heartbeat City (Rhino) It’s tempting to fall back on a bad pun—out of gas?— to describe The Cars’ later albums. And yes, Heartbeat City (1984) is burdened with producer Mutt Lange’s clunky efforts to steer them toward hard rock as band mastermind Ric Ocasek veered toward precision-tooled construction lacking the human touch. Yet, Heartbeat City includes one of that decade’s great pop love songs, “Drive,” whose benign sheen can’t mask an unnerving descent into psychosis. The newly released “expanded edition” features some worthwhile bonus tracks, including the demo for “Drive.” —David Luhrssen 26 | M AY 3 1 , 2 0 1 8

::FREEWILLASTROLOGY ::BY ROB BREZSNY GEMINI (May 21-June 20): On Feb. 17, 1869, Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev had an appointment with a local cheese-making company to provide his expert consultation. But he never made it. A blast of inspiration overtook him soon after he awoke, and he stayed home to tend to the blessed intrusion. He spent that day as well as the next two perfecting his vision of the periodic table of the elements, which he had researched and thought about for a long time. Science was forever transformed by Mendeleev’s breakthrough. I doubt your epiphanies in the coming weeks will have a similar power to remake the whole world, Gemini. But they could very well remake your world. When they arrive, honor them. Feed them. Give them enough room to show you everything they’ve got. CANCER (June 21-July 22): Ninety-five percent of your fears have little or no objective validity. Some are delusions generated by the neurotic parts of your imagination. Others are delusions you’ve absorbed from the neurotic spew of other people’s imaginations. What I’ve just told you is both bad news and good news. On the one hand, it’s a damn shame you feel so much irrational and unfounded anxiety. On the other hand, hearing my assertion that so much of it is irrational and unfounded might mobilize you to free yourself from its grip. I’m pleased to inform you that the coming weeks will be an excellent time to wage a campaign to do just that. June can and should be Fighting for Your Freedom from Fear Month. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): During the next four weeks, I’ll celebrate if you search for and locate experiences that will heal the part of your heart that’s still a bit broken. My sleep at night will be extra deep and my dreams extra sweet if I know you’re drumming up practical support for your feisty ideals. I’ll literally jump for joy if you hunt down new teachings that will ultimately ensure you start making a daring dream come true in 2019. And my soul will soar if you gravitate toward the mindexpanding kind of hedonism rather than the mindshrinking variety. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Everyone has a unique fate that’s interesting enough to write a book about. Each of us has at least one epic story to tell that would make people cry and laugh and adjust their thoughts about the meaning of life. What would your saga be like? Think about what’s unfolding right now, because I bet that would be a ripe place to start your meditations. The core themes of your destiny are currently on vivid display, with new plot twists taking your drama in novel directions. Want to get started? Compose the first two sentences of your memoir. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): “Dear Oracle: I find myself in the weird position of trying to decide between doing the good thing and doing the right thing. If I opt to emphasize sympathy and kindness, I may look like an eager-to-please wimp with shaky principles. But if I push hard for justice and truth, I may seem rude and insensitive. Why is it so challenging to have integrity? —Vexed Libra.” Dear Libra: My advice is to avoid the all-or-nothing approach. Be willing to be half-good and half-right. Sometimes the highest forms of integrity require you to accept imperfect solutions. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You have waited long enough to retaliate against your adversaries. It’s high time to stop simmering with frustration and resentment. Take direct action! I suggest you arrange to have a box of elephant poop shipped to their addresses. You can order it here: tinyurl.com/elephantmanure. JUST KIDDING! I misled you with the preceding statements. It would in fact be a mistake for you to express such vulgar revenge. Here’s the truth: Now is an excellent time to seek retribution against those who have opposed you, but the best ways to do that would be by proving them wrong, surpassing their accomplishments and totally forgiving them. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Marketing experts say that motivating a person to say yes to a big question is more likely if you first build momentum by asking them smaller questions to which it’s easy to say yes. I encourage you to adopt this slant for your own purposes in the coming

SHEPHERD EXPRESS

weeks. It’s prime time to extend invitations and make requests that you’ve been waiting for the right moment to risk. People whom you need on your side will, I suspect, be more receptive than usual—and with good reasons—but you may still have to be smoothly strategic in your approach. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): I bet you’ll be offered at least one valuable gift, and possibly more. But I’m concerned that you may not recognize them for their true nature. So I’ve created an exercise to enhance your ability to identify and claim these gifts-in-disguise. Please ruminate on the following concepts: 1. a pain that can heal; 2. a shadow that illuminates; 3. an unknown or anonymous ally; 4. a secret that nurtures intimacy; 5. a power akin to underground lightning; 6. an invigorating boost disguised as tough love. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): When I was a kid attending elementary schools in the American Midwest, recess was a core part of my educational experience. For 45 minutes each day, we were excused from our studies so we could indulge in free-form play—outdoors, if the weather was nice, or else in the gymnasium. But in recent years, schools in the U.S. have shrunk the time allotted for recess. Many schools have eliminated it altogether. Don’t they understand this is harmful to the social, emotional and physical health of their students? In any case, Aquarius, I hope you move in the opposite direction during the coming weeks. You need more than your usual quota of time away from the grind. More fun and games, please! More messing around and merriment! More recess! PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): For many years, actor Mel Blanc provided the voice for Bugs Bunny, a cartoon character who regularly chowed down on raw carrots. But Blanc himself did not like raw carrots. In a related matter, actor John Wayne, who pretended to be a cowboy and horseman in many movies, did not like horses. And according to his leading ladies, charismatic macho film hunk Harrison Ford is not even close to being an expert kisser. What about you, Pisces? Is your public image in alignment with your true self? If there are discrepancies, the coming weeks will be an excellent time to make corrections. ARIES (March 21-April 19): A critic described Leonardo da Vinci’s painting the Mona Lisa as “the most visited, most written about, most sung about, most parodied work of art in the world.” It hasn’t been sold recently, but is estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Today it’s kept in the world-renowned Louvre museum in Paris, where it’s viewed by millions of art-lovers. But for years after its creator’s death, it enjoyed little fanfare while hanging in the bathroom of the French King Francois. I’d love to see a similar evolution in your own efforts, Aries: a rise from humble placement and modest appreciation to a more interesting fate and greater approval. The astrological omens suggest that you have more power than usual to make this happen in the coming weeks and months. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): These days, many films use CGI, computer generated imagery. The technology is sophisticated and efficient. But in the early days of its use, producing such realistic fantasies was painstaking and time-intensive. For example, Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Jurassic Park featured four minutes of CGI that required a year to create. I hope that in the coming weeks, you will summon equivalent levels of old-school tenacity and persistence and attention to detail as you devote yourself to a valuable task that you love. Your passion needs an infusion of discipline. Don’t be shy about grunting. Homework: Each of us has a secret ignorance. Can you guess what yours is? What could you do about it? Freewillastrology.com.
