Our extensive wind tunnel testing, using wind averaged drag calculations to assess performance in a wide range of conditions, reveals that the Synthe is nearly as fast as time trial helmets in a standard “road” position, without compromising the cooling power your body needs for maximum power output. That cooling power is immediately apparent on the road, besting our test results and nearly matching the temperatures recorded for a bare headform over 30 minutes. Even with all of this performance, weight is an impressive 250 grams for a size medium CPSC compliant Synthe, making it a great choice when you’re battling for KOM’s or a personal best at the summit.

Bicycling is a dangerous activity which may result in serious injury or even death. Although our equipment is designed to help reduce the risk of such injuries, there is no guarantee that any injury will be prevented by the use of this equipment. Proper fit is essential to the effectiveness of a bicycle helmet. The Fit system (the system that wraps around and behind the skull) in your bicycle helmet is designed to provide stability when you ride, resisting wind and vibration forces. The Retention system (the system that goes under the chin) is designed to provide stability against impact forces should a crash occur. For proper use of your helmet and further description of your helmet’s features, please refer to the owner’s manual.

By using a supple elastic cord fit band at the back of the helmet to provide adjustment, the system can be set with one hand while wearing the helmet. ONESTEP FIT SYSTEM OneStep™ is a self-adjusting fit system developed with years of research into anatomic data, and designed to take the hassle out of fitting kids’ helmets. WOMEN’S SERIES The Women’s Series™ is a diverse collection of helmet styles, fits and prices tailored to the demands of female riders. While the level of detail and range of colors is unique within the Women’s Series helmets, they do not feature a unique “women’s fit”. That’s because there is no anatomic difference between women and men’s heads except for the average skull diameter measurement. And since Giro helmet sizes cover 98% of the human population, we believe the Women’s Series offers more options to women than any other brand.

X-STATIC ® PADDING X-Static padding contains a fiber made with layers of pure silver that is permanently woven into the fabric. Silver has natural anti-microbial performance that helps to reduce odor and regulate heat, so your helmet stays fresh and comfortable, naturally.

VINYL NITRILE Vinyl Nitrile (VN) is a soft and flexible material with exceptional impact management properties. Unlike expanded polystyrene (EPS) foams which can have diminished performance from each successive impact, VN can rebound to consistently absorb impact energy over more than a single impact when utilized appropriately.

FIT KIT Our Fit Kit™ pad system allows you to adjust the fit of your helmet in just a few seconds, without any tools. Simply choose the best combination of fit pads from the assortment supplied with the helmet, and swap them out to optimize comfort and stability. It’s fast, easy and allows you to customize the fit of the helmet without hassles.

IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION The In-Mold construction process permanently fuses a light-yet-durable outer shell with the helmet’s impact-absorbing EPS foam liner, enhancing the strength of both parts. This fusion process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, creating a one-piece ‘exoskeleton’ that allows the helmet to be lighter, more durable, and better ventilated than helmets with shells that are fastened or adhered to the liner.

HARD SHELL CONSTRUCTION Hard shell construction is the traditional method of combining a durable, molded outer shell with an impact-absorbing EPS foam liner. By molding the shell separately from the helmet’s liner we can optimize the shell material, thickness and finish to create helmets that are tough yet stylish, and ideally suited to the style of riding they’re built for.

P. O.V. VISOR Point Of View™ visors are anchored by a patented internal clutch mechanism that allows 15-degrees of tool-free, on-the-fly vertical adjustment while preventing the visor from rattling and coming loose over rough and technical terrain. They’re also easily removed without tools.

WIND TUNNEL VENTILATION Giro helmets are developed utilizing our proprietary Wind Tunnel™ ventilation system. This elaborate design combines active vents in the helmet’s shell with exhaust channels inside the helmet that thrust fresh, cool air over and around the rider’s head while forcing heat and stale air out. It’s the most effective cooling system available, and a difference you can feel every time you ride.

ROLL CAGE REINFORCEMENT Roll Cage™ is a light-yet-tough web of reinforcement invisibly molded inside a helmet’s EPS foam liner. It helps the helmet to hold together under impact, and provides an extra measure of strength and integrity that you’ll never notice…unless you need it.

THERMOFORMED SL ROLL CAGE The Thermoformed SL Roll Cage™ is an ultra light polycarbonate skeleton fused into a helmet’s impact-absorbing foam liner. Visible on the bridges between vents, this layer of armor acts like a second shell, enhancing structural support, impact dispersion and penetration resistance while allowing us to carve the biggest vents possible without compromising the helmet’s strength or integrity.

GIRO HELMETS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ARE HELMETS EFFECTIVE? Modern helmets practically disappear when you put one on, and they are the most effective means of preventing, and reducing the severity of cycling-related head injuries (anywhere from 45-85% of the most commonly reported brain injuries for cyclists).

HOW DO HELMETS WORK? When you fall or crash and hit your head, the helmet’s EPS foam liner compresses like an airbag to absorb energy, so that the brain doesn’t move around the inside of the skull with as much force. By absorbing energy during the impact, a helmet may reduce the likelihood of the most common brain injuries, such as concussions and hemorrhaging.

WHAT IS IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION? Models like the Aeon™ and Xar™ are made by fusing the outer shell and the inner, impact-absorbing foam liner together permanently using pressure and steam in a mold. This often creates a lighter helmet because the shell reinforces the foam like a skin, eliminating extra adhesives and hardware, and allowing the use of a thinner polycarbonate shell.

WHAT IS INJECTION-MOLDED HARDSHELL CONSTRUCTION? Models like the Cipher™ and Quarter™ feature a pre-molded shell and foam liner that are formed separately, then bonded together. While this creates a slightly heavier helmet that generally is not as vented as In-Mold helmets, the thicker shell often resists dents and dings more easily and is less expensive to engineer and manufacture.

OVERVIEW OF CYCLING HELMET SAFETY STANDARDS Helmet standards help to govern the design and integrity of helmets so that riders get products that are well-designed for the type of riding they enjoy. All cycling helmets should be certified to the most relevant standards for the type of riding the wearer is participating in, and must be certified for the market they’re sold in. Here’s a simple breakdown of 3 key standards:

U.S. STANDARDS CPSC – the U.S. federal government’s standard for cycling helmets. All cycling helmets sold in the U.S. must comply with the CPSC standard. ASTM F1952-09 – a voluntary standard specific to helmets for downhill MTB riding that requires a lower test line to help manage falls most commonly associated with more advanced off-road riding. EUROPEAN UNION STANDARDS CE EN-1078 – the European Union standard for cycling helmets. All helmets sold in European Union must meet a CE standard for protective equipment.

HOW TO CREATE A GREAT, COMFORTABLE FIT Proper fit is essential to performance and comfort. A helmet must fit right and be worn properly in order to be effective. To offer the best fit possible, Giro makes helmets in a wide range of sizes for men, women and children. STEP 1 - SIZING A HELMET CORRECTLY To determine the correct size, you should measure the circumference of the head. To do this, just wrap a measuring tape around the head, keeping the tape just above the ears and level front to back. Once you’ve determined the correct size, you can check to make sure the helmet fits comfortably and securely. If

AUSTRALIAN / NEW ZEALAND STANDARDS AS / NZS 2063 – the Australian standard for cycling helmets. All helmets sold in Australia must meet a government standard for protective equipment. Proper Chinstrap Adjustment

You can determine which standard a Giro helmet meets by looking at the box label and on the label inside the helmet. It is important to note that no one standard is superior to the others. They all cover many aspects of a helmet’s design, performance and certification, and they all have merit. However, the helmet you buy must be certified for sale and use in the market where it is purchased. Also note that if a helmet doesn’t fit properly, it’s less effective, regardless of the standard the helmet is designed to.

WHAT IS A “MULTI-IMPACT” HELMET? Some helmets are referred to as “multi-impact”. There are two reasons why we do not claim that Giro cycling helmets are “multi-impact”: 1. No cycling helmet, regardless of the liner material or construction method used, can offer unlimited multiple-accident protection. 2. There is no way to predict how hard you might hit your head the next time you fall, so we believe that it is best to wear a helmet that has not been impacted previously.

Measuring the Skull

the helmet doesn’t fit with just a little room between your head and the headband when the fit system is loose, you should replace it with one that does. You should always wear the helmet positioned low enough in the front to protect your forehead, but not so low that it hinders your vision.

STEP 2 - ADJUSTING THE STRAPS AT THE SIDE OF THE HELMET With a proper fit, the front and rear straps should join at a point slightly below the ears. To adjust the strap positioning, open the Tri Loc™ adjusters on the straps, put the helmet on and slide the straps through the adjusters until they are located comfortably under the ears. Make sure there is no slack in any of the straps. Then, close and lock the Tri Loc™ adjusters.

The bottom line is that if a helmet is involved in any serious impact, it should be inspected and replaced in case of any doubt, even if it appears undamaged.

STEP 4 - ADJUSTING THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE FIT STABILIZING SYSTEM A helmet should fit snugly on the wearer’s head, so that the skin on the forehead moves slightly when the helmet is moved back and forth. It should not cause a headache or be uncomfortably tight. To adjust the fit tension of Roc Loc® or Acu Loc™ systems while the helmet is on the wearer’s head, rotate the dial adjuster on the back of the system to tighten or loosen the fit as needed. To adjust the fit tension of Auto Loc™ systems you must remove the helmet, and move the snap anchor forward or back to adjust the fit as needed. For safety reasons, we recommend that you do not attempt to adjust the fit of a helmet while you are riding.

STEP 3 - ADJUSTING THE CHINSTRAP AND BUCKLE It is important that the chinstrap is comfortably snug and sits back against the throat, NOT on the point of the chin. It should be snug enough to prevent rolling-off, but loose enough so that the rider is able to open their mouth wide enough to eat. Make sure the loose ends of the strap pass through the rubber O-ring near the buckle. If it does not, the strap may slide loose and the helmet can come off accidentally.

STEP 5 - ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF THE FIT STABILIZING SYSTEM (not a feature of all systems) You can adjust the fit even more on Roc Loc® and Acu Loc™ systems that offer height adjustment, which allows the helmet’s fore/aft tilt to be optimized. Simply slide the system’s occipital pads (at the back of the helmet) up or down for comfort and best coverage. Experiment until you get a fit that is most comfortable.

STEP 6 - CHECKING THE FIT Once you think a proper fit has been achieved, grab the helmet with both hands and twist lightly it to the left and right. If the helmet fits properly, the skin on the forehead will move as the helmet moves. If it does not, the helmet

WHAT IF THE HELMET IS DAMAGED? Helmets don’t last forever. Damage to a helmet is not always visible. If a helmet is visibly damaged (cracked outer shell, crushed or cracked foam liner or any other damage) don’t use it. Some or all of the helmet’s protective capacity is used up when impacted. WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY DOES GIRO OFFER? Any Giro helmet determined by Giro to be defective in materials or workmanship within one (1) year from the date of original purchase will be repaired or replaced, at Giro’s option, free of charge when received at the factory freight prepaid, together with proof of purchase. If you have questions regarding the condition of your helmet or the warranty coverage on your helmet, contact us or refer to the helmet owner’s manual before sending your helmet in for inspection or replacement consideration.

Next, grab the helmet with both hands and try to remove it by rolling the helmet forward and backward. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you can roll it off the head completely, roll it forward so far that it blocks vision, or backward far enough to expose the forehead, it doesn’t fit correctly. If you cannot adjust the helmet to fit properly according to these instructions, DO NOT USE THE HELMET. Replace it with a different size or model. THINSULATE XT-S Select Giro winter gloves feature Thinsulate™ XT-S insulation for exceptional warmth and comfort, with X-Static® anti-microbial properties that help to control bacteria and odor. We use more insulation in the top of the gloves to provide warmth from the elements, and a little less in the palm to maintain grip and bar feel without compromising comfort.

MAPP MERINO FIBER MAPP® Merino fibers have a complex structure with a hydrophilic (water holding) interior, known as the cortex and a hydrophobic (water repelling) exterior, known as the cuticle. This allows MAPP fabric to absorb perspiration without making you feel damp and uncomfortable, with the added benefit of being naturally water-repellent. It also buffers the body’s microclimate in changing conditions, maintaining comfort.

HIPORA HIPORA® barriers are made of a waterproof film with polyurethane coating and numerous micro pores which block water from the outside, yet allow the moisture generated by the body to exit. Glove liners made with HIPORA® are waterproof, windproof and breathable all at the same time, and will keep hands dry and comfortable when the weather demands it.

PERTEX Pertex© Shield provides the perfect balance of waterproofness and breathability, with wind- and water- repellency and flexibility in a light weight material. The fabric combines advanced face fabric technology with a proprietary polyurethane film laminate that reduces internal condensation and increases comfort range. It’s also durable, making it a great choice for riding when the weather turns tough.

SUPERGEL PADDING SuperGel is a proprietary 6 mm two-stage padding that combines superior shock- and vibration-absorbing properties with enhanced comfort and handlebar grip. Vibration damping is achieved with a base layer of 2 mm Technogel® polyurethane cushioning that absorbs impact energy and will not harden or break down over time. Comfort and grip at the handlebar is enhanced with 4mm rebound foam that allows hands to hold bars with more comfort and stability when roads and trails are rough.

TECHNOGEL Technogel® is a proprietary polyurethane cushioning material originally designed for medical applications. It is unique because it molds itself to the body along all three axes to distribute pressure, while traditional gel padding materials tend to deform along only one axis, which causes pressure to accumulate. In addition to superior pressure distribution it also absorbs more impact energy, and it does not harden or break down over time.

PORON XRD Poron® XRD™ is a soft, shock-absorbing material specifically engineered to absorb impact energy, without a loss of performance from repeated impacts. Using “intelligent molecules”, Poron® XRD™ remains supple and flexible until impacted, when the molecules lock together immediately to deflect and help absorb shock. Other benefits include “open cell, breathable” performance with antifungal properties, and no latex, PVCs, VOCs, or heavy metals.

HOW TO GET THE CORRECT GLOVE SIZE. Giro Gloves are available in unisex and women’s sizes that are tailored to the needs of cyclists. To determine your glove size, wrap a measuring tape around your dominant hand, just below your knuckles (excluding your thumb), and make a fist. This measurement is your “hand width” glove size. We use modern insulating materials, including synthetic insulation and wool-blend removable liners where appropriate, to provide the best comfort and performance possible. Also note that some Giro glove models have a slightly more “snug” fit when new, so you may need to size up from the size you usually wear or allow them some time to “break-in” for a perfect fit.

DO ALL GIRO GLOVES FIT THE SAME? Since our full glove line covers so many different needs and conditions, we may make adjustments to some patterns in order to create the best glove possible for each type of use or conditions. While we strive for the most consistent feel possible, this means that certain gloves may feel different than others. For instance, leather gloves will stretch and “break-in” with time and use, so they may feel snug when new compared to similar synthetic glove designs. Also, winter gloves are designed to have a little more interior volume in order to trap heat, so they may feel roomier than a comparable mountain bike or long-finger road glove.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN GLOVES? Cleaning Synthetic Gloves For best results, clean the gloves using lukewarm water and a mild liquid soap or cleaner, and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. When almost dry, you can put the gloves on to give them shape. Cleaning Leather / Leather Palm Gloves For gloves with leather, extra care will help to extend the life of the glove, and a good leather conditioner can help to keep the leather supple since washing can damage it.

PRECISION FIT Giro footwear is built on proprietary cycling-specific lasts to create a fit that hugs the foot closely without binding, crowding or discomfort. Our lasts are hand-crafted specifically for cycling footwear in whole and half-sizes that are differentiated between men’s and women’s shoes, in order to provide the most supportive and precise fit possible in a production shoe.

HIGH-VOLUME FIT Giro “HV” footwear is built on proprietary, cycling-specific lasts that are specially designed to create a fit that hugs wider or highervolume feet closely without binding, crowding or discomfort. In order to provide the most supportive and precise fit possible, our HV lasts are hand-crafted in whole and half-sizes too, so you get the best fit possible in a production shoe. Giro HV fit is recommended for widths from D-EE, and is an option for feet with very high instep.

NEUTRAL PLATFORM The term Neutral Platform means that there is no tilt or permanent adjustment built-in to our shoes. By maintaining a neutral platform, riders who require wedges or other adjustments are free to choose from a variety of systems that best meet their needs over time, without having to compensate for unnecessary or improper adjustments that can compromise the fit or performance of their shoes, or cause stress to muscles or joints.

SUPERNATURAL FIT SYSTEM The Giro SuperNatural Fit System combines a cycling-specific footbed with an adjustable arch support kit. By simply choosing from any of the Low, Medium and High arch supports included in the kit, riders and fitters can independently adjust arch support to enhance fit and pedaling efficiency while reducing or eliminating common discomforts like hotspots, numbness and cramping. The system is available in men’s and women’s sizes, and incorporates X-Static® fibers in the footbed to fight odors and other bacteria.

CARBON FIBER We use carbon fiber and carbon composites in Giro footwear because they provide exceptional performance that can be tuned to maximize stiffness, tensile strength, weight and form. While many companies utilize this cutting-edge material, we have the added advantage of having Easton® engineering expertise to further enhance the capabilities of this wonder material, allowing us to create thinner, lighter and stronger components.

SONIC WELDED ARMOR Sonic welding is a process that uses sonic waves and pressure to fuse two elements together permanently. Utilizing this process to add a layer of armor to soft fabrics results in a more durable bond that is also cleaner and more accurate than traditional adhesives, and lighter too.

EASTON ® ENGINEERED OUTSOLE PLATES We worked closely with the engineering staff at Easton to develop proprietary outsoles that provide the most direct, powerful connection to the pedals without compromising comfort. Using advanced modeling and proprietary fixturing in our extensive test lab, every outsole is engineered to provide ideal stiffness in 3 zones: Toe, Arch, and Heel, while maintaining the lowest possible weight and stack-height (as low as 6.5mm). Additionally, the flatter edges of our outsoles allow the shoe upper material to conform to larger or wider feet (what we call the “spillover” effect) without uncomfortable pinching or binding.

MR-1 BUCKLE The patent-pending MR-1 buckle is truly micro-adjustable in tension and release, allowing two-way adjustment in 2mm increments by simply pulling up to tighten the strap or depressing the lever to release it. It also features a quick macro-release for easy removal of the shoe. The design allows grit to be cleared easily for reliable function on- and off-road, and it has an exceptionally low stack height, reducing the likelihood of damage.

The N-2 buckle is adjustable in 3mm increments to tension the strap, with a quick release by simply depressing the upper and lower levers simultaneously. The design allows grit to be cleared easily for reliable function on- and off-road, and it has a lower stack height than our previous buckle design. It offers two mounting positions and a guard that helps to prevent unwanted release of the buckle, and is compatible with our previous shoe designs should a rider need a replacement.

AEGIS ® MICROBE SHIELD The Aegis Microbe Shield is an anti-microbial barrier that permanently bonded with the fabric. It uses the power of a tiny positive electrical charge to inhibit the presence of odor-causing microbes that can cause odor, discoloring or fading, so your shoes stay fresh and odor-free.

X-STATIC ® FIBERS X-Static fibers are made with layers of pure silver that are permanently bonded to the surface of the fabric. Silver offers natural anti-microbial performance that helps to reduce odor and regulate heat, so your feet stay fresh and comfortable, naturally.

PORON ® XRD™ Poron XRD is a soft, shock-absorbing material specifically engineered to absorb up to 90% of impact energy, without a loss of performance from repeated impacts. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT OUTSOLES? Easton EC90 SLX ACC is 100% unidirectional carbon with high modulus fibers. It is our lightest, highest level of performance and also features titanium cleat hardware inserts. Easton EC90 ACC is made of 100% unidirectional carbon. It has pro-level stiffness similar to the EC90 SLX ACC outsole, but is slightly heavier. Easton EC70 ACC carbon composite outsoles are a blend of carbon and fiberglass. They are light and stiff with performance and value that exceeds many carbon outsoles. DuPont® Zytel™ outsoles are made of a special nylon composite that is stiffer and more durable that traditional nylon outsoles. Our Zytel soles are not as stiff as our premium carbon or composite outsoles, but they offer class-leading performance with less weight.
