Disruptive High School Students: Disciplining As A Friend
The toughest part a teacher can deal is on disruptive high school students. Disciplining them is in fact one of the most challenging part in a teacher’s life. For one, they already have that mind and judgment to do things they want. More importantly they are not kids anymore who tend to follow directions imposed by others. If you happen to be an educator in the context of a high school environment, perhaps you are already strained as to how to deal with these kinds of students. Acting on iron fist is actually not suggested. What teenagers would do is to do things that were stated not to. Oftentimes, you might see yourself on the defensive side becauseyou can’t just punish them becauseyou might just lose your job. Thus to be able to deal disruptive high school students you must be a friend to them. Here’s how to start. Procedure # 1: Talk to them on a personal note. One of the most reliable allies of an adolescent is a friend. Therefore, be like one of them. As much as possible mingle with them more than a friend as a teacher. Generate small talk and chats especially when you meet along the corridor or in the cafeteria. You can even do this after every class period. Talk to them things that may be of interest to them. You can even discussyour lessons at hand most especially the ones they find it hard. It is in this case, you may be able to know more of them personally and they might as well open to you. Procedure # 2: Win their trust. Trust is something that has to be worked in order to be gained. As you progress with your small talk from time to time, we may find some students relying to you, especially on a personal level. This is proof that we had won their trust. You can even have some tutorials under your subject outside the usual classdiscussion, since it implies that you actually care for them. And care is entrusted. As a very important note, do not break the trust. Procedure # 3: Impose necessary discipline to disruptive pupils. If you ever speak with disruptive students and gain their confidence in the process,it is very easy on your end and a breeze to discipline them in a manner that is humane. This time, you can now act as like a sister or brother figure to them rather than a teacher. You can tap your discipline in a form of a joke or you can insert it during your mini discussions. It is in this case, they will not be offended to what you say becausethey know it is for their own good. You might even find it favorable becausethey will effectively monitor and follow what a friend tells them to do. And that is you. High school students are not really that difficult compared to those of the primary. The one thing you really need to be effective is to have the heart and compassion for them.
