Quitting Teaching? Aspects to Do First Quitting teaching is something that might ring a bell to almost all teachers again and again. For the umpteenth time they want to do that, but somewhere on the line, they so can’t decide do such a thing. Looking back, they will only see frustrations and negative things in their profession, that is very unhealthy not only for themselves but for the students as well. Leaving a particular profession is never easy. On one hand, a very important source of income will be cut since you tend to quit your job. But if you really think that quitting teaching is the best answer and the most preferable, here are some things to evaluate. Make sure you fully understand the bullets below in order for you not to regret the decision. # 1: Make sure you have something as your fallback. I've said before that when you decide to leave teaching, it just means you're bringing down a major financial resource. It is pretty obvious that you work to get paid. Therefore, before leaving school, make sure you have another source of income within your reach. It would be very difficult in the end if you decide to do a thing but got nowhere to go after. You only end up going back to teaching in order to fill your pockets again. Therefore, make sure you have a large amount of savings first, enough to sustain you until your next job. Another alternative here is to have another job ready. # 2: Make sure your work is done. As a teacher and professional, it is important not to leave behind any responsibility. It is recommended to give yourself some time to finish or brush off some lessons with your students before deciding to quit. It is very unprofessional and might reflect on your record if you simply don’t attend school and drop it once and for all. Finding a replacement may be an additional burden in the part of the administration. It is often suggested that when you want to leave teaching, you must do it at the end of the year or term. In addition, make sure to finish your tasks like grading papers, projects and releasing the student’s grades. # 3: Exit gracefully. Even if you decided not to return to school or possibly forget this whole chapter in your life, make sure who you left behind must remember something good about you. Thus if there are conflicts, resolve this with the people affected. If exit interviews are necessary, do this task as well. Make sure you are signed out at the office. If you have debts to a co worker, pay them and not escape it. After all what we can leave in our previous working environment is the impression of people towards you. This is an add bonus that somehow you have something beautiful until the end of your work. Leaving any job is no laughing matter. Therefore, before making this irreversible act, make sure you have thoroughly evaluated and pondered upon things. Quitting teaching involves many aspects more than the bullets had stated. Make sure wherever life leads you there is no unnecessary repentance especially with regards to teaching.
