The annual Halliday Cup Competition for Pianists was adjudicated by Paul Drayton (composer, pianist, conductor) with the following results:

• 28 Lunchtime Recital Cheap Street Church performances
• The 103-strong Choir sang services in the Abbey twice a week and also formed the Tenor and Bass section of the Choral Society performance of Handel’s Messiah on 31 January
• The Swing Band performed two Dinner & Jazz evenings, took part in the Joint Schools’ Musical Showcase, played at all three Lists, at OS Day, at Commem on the Saturday, and in the Gala Concert
• The Jazz Ensemble performed on 15 March and at Jazz for a Summer’s Evening in June
• The Wind Band gave concerts in the BSR on 12 November and 2 February
• The Symphony Orchestra gave concerts on 12 November and 17 March in repertoire by Tchaikovsky, Dame Ethel Smyth, Malcolm Arnold and Beethoven
• The Sinfonia Orchestra gave concerts on 5 December and 12 March
• The Symphonic Strings ensemble performed recitals on 1 December, 26 January and 10 May.
• In a Joint Schools’ Musical Showcase on 24 January, performances were given by Chamber Choir as part of the Joint Schools’ Choir, the Symphony Orchestra, the Joint Schools’ String Quartet and the Close Harmony group
• The Chamber Choir performed an Introit every Sunday evening in the Abbey, took part in the Sherborne Abbey Festival, sang Choral Evensongs in Salisbury Cathedral (November), Exeter Cathedral (February), the School Chapel (March), in Music & Readings for Christmas in the School Chapel, and in Battle of the Organs (Commem)
• A Joint Schools’ Woodwind Competition adjudicated by Lianne Barnard (LSO Flute) took place on 3 March and was won by Ben Hunt Sch Mus (4b)
• The pupil organists gave Organ Recitals in the School Chapel in November, March, in St Andrew’s Church, Trent, in May, and in Battle of the Organs (Commem).
• The Brass Band gave concerts on Festive Shopping Day on 3 December, 4 February, and played at the CCF Biennial Inspection on Wednesday 20 March, and in the Abbey Service in place of an Homily on Wednesday 22 May
• The Brass Quintet made it through the qualifying round of the annual Pro Corda Music Competition and performed fanfares in both Carol Services and the Commem Service
The Patrick Shelley Music Competition had over 50 entrants in five categories with all years being represented The adjudication was led by T imothy Noon, Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral

• 1st team reached the final of the regional SouthWest ISGA Singles competition
• Theo Anderson Gannon, U6e 11th at Somerset Men’s County Championship and selected to represent Somerset in the Men’s County SouthWest competition
Sailing
• 1st team reached the final of BSDRA Western Area Team Racing Championships
• Sam Nokes U6g, Ollie Thompson U6f, George Gillespie U6c and Yasha Malikov U6f came second in the BSDRA National keelboat fleet racing championships
Athletics
• Theo Knott (5m) broke (his own) U17 high jump school record with a jump of 1.97m, which placed him 2nd in the South West Championships
• Theo has been selected to represent Dorset at the English Schools’ Athletics Championships in July
• Jack Hunter-Inglis 5a finished 3rd in the South West Championships for shot put, with a throw of 11 89m
• Toby Bemand (U6a) finished 3rd in the 400m in the South West Championships
• Hector Sheldrick (3m) finished 6th in the South West Championships for discus

•Henry Cole (L6g) was awarded the cadet most displaying the Commando Mindset on the panschools Royal Marines CCF Summer Camp
• Max W indham (U6c) followed up the good news of his Army scholarship with his selection as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Dorset This marks him out as a leading cadet in the county
• Charlie W ilson (U6d) passed the prestigious Master Cadet Course at the Cadet Training Centre in Frimley Park
• Our Rifles Cadet Cup team finished 4th in this competition that occurs on Sennybridge Training Area
• A special mention goes to our Pringle team who came an agonising few points shy of winning the event having won 6 out of the 12 individual competitions
• 14 cadets went parachuting through the Army Parachute Association
• Our senior cadets continue to set the benchmark for leadership in young people through wonderful role modelling They also shone through arranging the Question T ime event and Silent Auction, generously backed by parents, raising close to £9000 for the Army Benevolent Fund, the Royal Marines Charity and the Royal Naval Association
• 34 cadets went adventure training in Norway
