Foreword It has been stated, more than once, that most people don’t plan to fail; unfortunately, most people, in society, fail to plan. Or maybe you’ve heard that you should write down the vision and make it plain. As you go through life, people will tell you to do certain things, but rarely will someone give you step-by-step instructions on how to be successful in life. Well, thanks to Sheréa VéJauan’s 2020 Goals Journal, you and I don’t have to look any further. Rarely does a book come along that has an immediate impact on your life, and the lives of your entire family. It is amazing how powerful this 2020 Goals Journal is! As an educator for nearly three decades, I’ve worked with students, parents, and teachers who need help setting goals. The 2020 Goals Journal is comprehensive, extremely detailed, very practical, and is necessary for anyone looking to achieve greatness in life. Students, teachers, parents, friends, and family must invest in this 2020 Goals Journal. The time invested in this book will give you a return investment for the rest of your life. Whatever your goal is, this journal will take your life, business, education, family, and spiritual growth to the next level. Sheréa VéJauan has not only written a journal, she has created a system of success to be practiced every day and duplicated year after year! Think about how much you can achieve in life by following a detailed success plan, day after day, week after week, and year after year! In addition to your 2020 Goals Journal, and your personal goal achievement system, Sheréa VéJauan is also the co-founder of the Goal Setter’s Club! This means you will have on-going support and coaching every day throughout the year! Thank you, Sheréa VéJauan, for creating a system of success for all who would dare to accept the challenge to eliminate excuses and mediocrity in their lives. Now, there’s only one thing left to do, and that is to act on the first goal of the rest of our lives, and to invest in the 2020 Goals Journal immediately! Professor Jerome Vincent Carter, CEO Inspiration 52

Welcome
First, I would like to congratulate you for making an investment in your future by purchasing this journal, and taking steps to be among the small percentage of people who not only set goals, but also take committed action towards achieving those goals. Even if you received this journal as a gift, someone thought of you and knows that you are ready to take your goal-setting game to the next level. By working diligently in your journal over the course of the year, you are going to create some amazing changes in your life— changes that will serve as a foundation for a life that many dream of, but few live. I’m excited that this is our ninth year publishing our yearly goals journal. What’s unique about this book is that, as you
begin to write and plan, it becomes a beautiful story of your achievements - one day, one routine at a time. This is not just a book that I’ve written - it’s a book that both my family and I use each year to create a blueprint for a successful year. I use it every day. I keep it near me (in my car, in my purse, in my office) as a constant go-to for my life. I’ve watched my life change as well as those I coach throughout the year. And if you need me, I’m just a click away! I’m excited for you. I’m excited for us. Here’s to your success! Sheréa VéJauan Your Accountability Coach
How To Use This Journal “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Y
ou should plan to set both short- and long-term goals, and be sure that every goal you choose is “S.M.A.R.T.”: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and has a Time Limit. My system involves following seven key steps to reaching any goal: Write, Balance, Research, Affirm & Commit, Visualize, Act, and Celebrate. This framework will be consistent throughout this journal.
1 Step One - Write “It is always the start that requires the greatest effort.” – James Cash Penney One of the key elements to goal setting is to write your goals down. Those who write their goals down are far more likely to achieve them, compared to those who don’t. Your journey begins when you write down your vision. Use the section below to write out your 2020 Goals.
MY TOP 3 GOALS FOR 2020 ARE: 1

2 Step Two – Balance “It's all about quality of life and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.” - Philip Green I have always been known as a hard worker. Every time someone would say something about me they would start with, “You are the hardest working, most organized person I know!” For a while I was okay with that, because my goal was to work hard. As I became older, I realized that I did not want to always be known as just a hard worker. I wanted to have fun, too! I knew that it was important for my kids to see me live a balanced life as a entrepreneur, a mother, and a wife. I needed to find creative ways to use all my gifts, as well as increase my skills and talents in every area of my life - but I didn’t know how. I was waking up at four o’clock every morning, but never made time to exercise. I drank about seven large cups of coffee a day, and never once drank a glass of water. I wrote several books, yet I neglected to see the sun rise or set, because I was in my office all day . . . achieving stuff. I needed to change my habits. They weren’t really bad habits, but they certainly weren’t balanced. All my good was outweighing my bad.
3 Step Three – Research “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” -Abraham Lincoln Based on the goals you’ve set, it’s time to do a little research on any additional support you’ll need to achieve them. What books can you read? What magazines can you subscribe to? What organizations do you need to be a part of? Do you need to hire a coach? This step will help you prepare, and give you the tools needed for your journey. If you need a jump-start, I’ve included some of my favorite resources in the back of this journal, including my recommended book list.
4 Step Four – Affirm "Every word you speak and every thought you think is an affirmation for your future." -Cheryl Richardson Affirmations are great tools to help overcome fear, build confidence, inspire, motivate, and encourage. The purpose of an affirmation is to support your actions, shift your thoughts and emotions, and help keep you in a positive place. Think of an affirmation as being your cheerleader, a fan, and a voice of encouragement. They will inspire, motivate, and help you remain confident when you use them. I’ve included my health and fitness affirmation below. Use this as a sample to write an affirmation for each of the categories in this journal.
Sheréa’s Health & Fitness Affirmation God gave me a healthy body and, in gratitude, I take care of myself. I will live a long and healthy life. I surround myself with people who support my healthy choices. I read books and materials about health. I encourage my friends and family to choose healthier lives. I exercise daily. I eat foods that give me life and energy. My body is toned and strong. I keep healthy snacks in my purse, my car, and in my office. I get regular physical exams. I take my daily vitamins, eat plenty of vegetables, drink plenty of water, and get proper rest. I have a strong and healthy heart. I am Sheréa. I am healthy and fit.
5 Step Five – Visualize "The vision that you glorify in your mind, the ideal that you enthrone in your heart - this you will build your life by, and this you will become." -James Lane Allen Now, for the fun part...creating! All great accomplishments start with a vision. The more clearly you picture your success, and the more often you do so, the quicker you will be able to achieve your goals. Creating a vision board can be a great way to stay on track, and will help make your goals achievable. You can create several vision boards for any type of goal or dream that you want to achieve. A vision board is a collection of images, quotes, and symbols that have meaning to you. They should represent your dream life. Although you can create your board however you’d like, there is a simple method that I use to create my vision boards. I’ll walk you through those steps on the next few pages.
6 Step Six – Act "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle If you want to change your life, you have to change your habits. With your already hectic schedule, accomplishing your future goals can be challenging. I believe that goals should be broken down into small routines that are achievable—one step at a time, one day at a time—by adding them to your daily schedule. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you already know that I am the Queen of Routines. I post regularly about the routines that I have incorporated into my life, which helps me accomplish my goals. Routines like Meatless Monday, Water Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, Fitness Friday, and many others. Think about the goals you want to achieve for the year, and then get creative and start incorporating them into your daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly routine. You will have space to do this in each chapter of your journal. I’ve listed a few samples to help you get started. And remember, they don’t have to rhyme. You can follow my naming preferences or decide on one that works better for you.
7 Step Seven - Celebrate “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” -Oprah Winfrey There are three challenging categories in this journal for me: fun, travel, and celebration. It also doesn’t help that I’m a recovering introverted perfectionist. For those of you who are perfectionists, like me, you may also find it very hard to celebrate if you are not one hundred percent proud of something. It could always be better, right? If you set a goal to lose fifty pounds, but you lose twenty-five, celebrate the twenty-five. Don’t let perfectionism discourage you from celebrating your success. Five Ways to Celebrate Your Success: 1. Decide in advance that you will celebrate. 2. Decide in advance how and when you will celebrate a goal or milestone. 3. Write a celebration affirmation and review it every week. 4. Create a celebration board, journal, or slideshow on your computer that displays your current success stories, awards, and photos. 5. Find a partner that will hold you accountable when it comes time to celebrating you! For motivation, I keep a celebration board in my office to remind me of my milestones and achievements.
Before the Goal
Things to consider before you craft your 2020 Goals
Before the Goal “People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.” -Thomas Merton Since 2009, my family and I have followed a steady system that’s helped us become pretty good at kicking off each New Year with a clear vision. We usually start by agreeing on a word of the year and reviewing our family mission statement. We also choose a theme song, a scripture, and a quote to carry us through our year. Then, we invite our friends and family over to create our vision boards! If you’ve used this journal in the past, this will sound familiar. That’s because, along with a small group of committed individuals in my mastermind group, my family and I have followed this Goals Journal closely every year. As you can imagine, I’ve learned a thing or two on this journey, especially as I’ve watched my daughters adopt this goal-setting approach. As a parent, I’ve always encouraged my kids to follow their passion. It seemed like the best path toward discovering their life’s purpose. After all, they’re young enough to make mistakes and still have plenty of room to start over. When we first began creating our goals as a family, my girls knew exactly what they wanted to do, and where they wanted to attend college. Since the third grade, both of my girls ran track and played basketball. They won many accolades and awards, traveled to different cities, and won many competitions. Every morning when I went into their
bedroom, I would see their vision boards with UCLA all over them. I was a proud mom; I had done well. I had taught my kids about the power of goal setting and creating a vision board - and they got it! Then, they became high school seniors, and everything changed. Everything. Years of complete confidence in their futures turned into “I have absolutely no idea.” Wait! What? I’ve always given my girls the gift of freedom. They’ve been free to decide and change their mind, about school and career. Even still, I really didn’t see this one coming. The place of uncertainty they found themselves in was confusing to all of us. I really didn’t know how to help them figure it out. I struggled to understand it. We had set the goals, read the books, done the research, visited the colleges, and put in the work. They’d both planned to go to UCLA to play basketball together, and then play in the WNBA. That was their plan. Their only plan. I thought about my mastermind group, and some of the other kids that I coached. I was stunned to realize that, if my girls were feeling this way, other kids and adults were too. Depending on who was in their immediate circles, they might be too afraid to speak up or admit that they've changed their minds. Especially if they only had a Plan A. My youngest daughter began avoiding dinner parties and social events, because she was embarrassed to be asked the usual questions: What college are you going to? Are you working? What’s next? Since she’d changed her mind about her goals, and found herself in an uncertain space,
she no longer knew how to talk to others about her future without feeling like a nobody with no plan. This experience made me realize that there are all kinds of reasons why people write goals. And there are also all kinds of outside influences that can interrupt the process. Ideally, the goals you set will be truly yours, based on things you really want. But sometimes they might turn out to be your parents’ goals for you. Or, maybe they just sounded like good goals in general, looked good on paper, or made you feel important when talking about them with your friends. If you settled on goals that didn’t really feel like you, maybe you just didn’t know you had other options. It could be that your confidence level has not quite grown to the size of your real goals. It takes a lot of courage to set and achieve your own goals. I’d like you to reflect on the following before you start writing in your journal.
Forgive Yourself “You cannot travel back in time to fix your mistakes, but you can learn from them and forgive yourself for not knowing better.” -Leon Brown So, you set a goal to lose twenty-five pounds, but you only lost five. Maybe you did all you could; maybe you cheated. Maybe, you just simply failed. It’s okay! Before you go into a new year, forgive yourself and start over. Achieving your goals should be challenging, yet exciting. They should not be stressful. Don’t spend more time beating yourself up than appreciating the journey. When you know better, you do better. Now that you know, forgive yourself, and keep it moving. What’s the one thing you need to forgive yourself for from 2019?
Examine Who You Are Now “If you want to get to a different destination, you have to start with the truth of where you are.” – Michael Hyatt One thing's for sure – working on your goals is going to change you in big and small ways. If you used this journal last year, for example, I can guarantee you are not the same person you were when you started. Especially if you stuck to doing the work, created your routines, read the books, and took on the challenges. One new friend, one new book, one new course or conference, can change the direction of your life. Caution: resist the urge to simply transfer your unfinished goals from 2019 onto your 2020 journal. Take a moment to sit quietly and reflect. Do you really want that goal now? Is it still relevant? If it’s not, let it go. In what ways have you changed from the person you were last year?
Own Who You Are “You were born an original. Don’t die a copy.” -John
Mason
Several years ago, I attended Newsong Church in Irvine, California, and one of the things that attracted me to this church was a saying that they used to describe the church. Besides being multicultural, it was the home of the misfits. The outcast. The other. That felt like me. In a crowded room, I usually felt out of place, unwelcome, and uncomfortable. I eventually accepted a staff position there, and they required us to take a few personality and spirituality assessment tests. One was the Spiritual Gifts test, and the other was the Myers-Briggs test. The results were life changing for me. I came to realize why I was so compassionate about certain things. I also discovered for the first time that I was an introvert. Myers-Briggs designated me an INFJ, and there were only 1% of INFJs out there at the time. So, I did love people. I was just not trying to be around them all day. Fascinating! A few years later, after moving to the Inland Empire in Southern California, I attended Chaffey College. One of my instructors made us take several assessments, regarding our personalities, work habits, careers, etc. The information I discovered was a game changer for me. I especially liked that the results this time included suggestions on what careers would fit your personality type. I got so much out of these exercises, that I’ve never forgotten their impact. I want to encourage you to do the same.
Take some assessments to get to know who you are and why you do things a certain way. Don’t get overwhelmed. Stick to a few that can give you the most insight into yourself. I’ve recommended below a few key assessments I feel are most relevant to goal setting. Some are fee-based; most are free. After you've taken your assessment, list the results here as an easy reference.
Discover Your Purpose “There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” – Oprah I remember one day getting so upset because I applied for something and did not get it. I was hurt, mad, upset. Then I thought, do I event still really want that? The answer was no. Turns out, that was all about my ego leading me astray. It was a stark reminder to make sure I was seeking and achieving things that align with my purpose – not my ego. Before you even consider pursuing a goal, take some time to explore and identify your purpose. Finding your life’s purpose can radically change your trajectory for the better. You’ll feel more focused, motivated, and fulfilled. Get into a quiet space and answer the questions below. These few questions won’t help you discover your purpose, but they should get you thinking in the right direction.
January
Focus on Health & Fitness Goals “Growing old does not make us sick, it's growing sick that makes us old.” -Tim Morrow One of the most popular goals on most New Year’s resolution lists is improving one’s health. Most of us struggle with dieting, exercise, and staying on track. Often, we give up and quit. That’s one of the reasons this goal category is listed first in the journal, and it’s the longest chapter. Without good health (physical and mental), we won’t be able to achieve any goal, at least not for long. Setting health goals along with implementing a new exercise routine can be dramatic and require a great deal of planning, support, dedication, and discipline. Especially with interruptions like holiday meals, potlucks, social gatherings, and vacations throughout the year. Be encouraged! Planning and implementing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly routines can help you succeed. Of course, before implementing any new health plan or diet, you should consider scheduling an appointment with your primary physician and sharing your intentions. In fact, that should be a goal (yearly, bi-annually, monthly). Your primary physician can advise you and help design a plan that’s specific for your health goals. As you continue to pursue your health-related goals, you will notice other tasks in your life get accomplished with more confidence.
Use this portion of your journal to set and achieve your physical health and fitness goals.

Wise Words “Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.” -Jim Rohn “A muscle is like a car. If you want it to run well early in the morning, you have to warm it up.” -Florence Griffith Joyner “When it comes to eating right and exercising, there is no ‘I’ll start tomorrow.’ Tomorrow is disease.” -V.L. Allinear “In fitness, there are no short cuts. It involves immense discipline and hard work.” -Mahesh Babu
