‘Rivalis’ is a Latin word • Latin meaning ‘using the same stream’. • What is community and engagement?

• Values • Competing with another for the same objective or using the same stream….

Maker Movement • Mark Hatch’s ebook, The Maker Movement Manifesto, describes a ‘new kind of community that grows up from a community that has a density of creatives in it.’ (Hatch:102)

• Community can be constructed but it needs support to flourish.

Participation • Something starts it, in this case a personal project.

Participation involved saying the words, I can do this, it was having a chance to be participatory in a real event.

No business plan… • Making of the indestructable soccer ball was an innovation that was thought up by a health care entrepreneur who worked as a writer for musicians. • Tim Jahnigen was a roadie for local bands now innovates for the National Institute of Health (NIH). He invented an animal thermal heater. • He found an indestructible material that Chevrolet and Sting, the musician, have invested in so that children in conflict zones have a ball made of the same synthetic polymer Croc material is made of.

Entrepreneurial Approach • Fuchs, Werner, and Wallau (2008) claim that younger children tend to display an entrepreneurial attitude in everything they do.

Citizenship and Entrepreneurship Education

Innovation in teaching • “Chell and Athayde (2009) argue that the skills for innovation, such as imagination, creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm, and talent, are often equated with the skills required for entrepreneurship. Imagination is meant here as the ability to envision the development of an idea into the future, and creativity subsumes the ability to connect ideas, and to tackle and solve problems.” (Lindstrom:32) •

Can innovation lead us? Maybe having a community‌ • Is both a social and cultural meeting place

• Is where both milieus encourage opportunity and a responsibility to support the abilities of everyone there.

Athletes living for adequacy

Ideas for Documentary • Hem Bunting and his race for Marathons for Cambodia. • Ting Ting's life and his personal struggles - left home and had no support • His marathon debut and what happened with the NOCC - controversy over the lack of funding for his career; • Athletes today in Cambodia and their efforts to train are living at subsistence levels • Old coaches and what happened to their inspiration and where are they now. many have odd jobs as tuk tuk drivers; • New generation athletes and the opportunities to be an athlete in Cambodia without much support - continue dialogue with these up and coming athletes about what makes them want to compete and represent their country;

More ideas • Performance showcase of the athletes on a day in PP at Olympic Stadium • Showcase their talents and other scenes from their past; • Take Ting Ting to the next big event and what he would be doing at the race; • Publicity for the racers which is little to none before and after the race which leaves them in the dark a lot of the time/adequate life is unsupported therefore the concept of a state of adequacy and the idea started a marathon for the athletes; • “SUPPORT CAMBODIAN ATHLETICS” Crowdfunding.

12 interrelated dimensions • food security & nutrition, • water conservation, • shelter, • clothing, • health,

dimensions continued… • energy, • education, • income generation • social equity, • connectivity (physical and information infrastructure), infrastructure), • environmental conservation • disaster management

A journey • 8 marathons in 12 days will be a heroic and worth following journey. The recent clashes and crackdowns in the small provinces near Hem Bunting’s home make the situation dire and often explosive. In having this documented it makes it possible to be able to experience raw, rural Cambodia.

A case study Support Cambodian Athletics and the research team from Canada aims to shift focus from eradicating poverty to creating a level playing field, adequate facilities and training for Cambodian athletes incountry. It starts with a 400 km journey to document Cambodia’s state of living for adequacy as it relates to a National Marathoner's perspective.

The Ending • Bunting can only seek out a better future in Cambodia while others have left the country or live forgotten in the streets of Phnom Penh.

• Here is the trailer for King of Cambodian Marathons.
