Happy winter everyone! I hope this new year is off to a great start for you. This issue will provide some tips on setting goals and creating a vision for yourself. As the temperatures drop, we still want to stay active, so there are tips for family fitness indoors. I don't know about you but sometimes being a parent can bring some frustration. I have included some ideas to give our youth a nudge in the right directions for behavior. And did you know Bell County has a hunger coalition? You can be a part of it and help address food insecurity. Lastly, I had some great success with my Safe Sitter trainings. I wanted to share those highlights. I hope you are excited as I am to accomplish great things in 2022. Let's gooooo!

Vision: Focus on Your Future Where do you see yourself in the next 1-5 years? A vision board is a creative way to visualize your goals and what you desire in life. It involves collecting images or objects that speak to your future and arranging them on a board to give you daily reminders. Setting goals and placing them on a vision board keeps us motivated, and helps us make the most of our time and resources. Put your vision board in a place within your regular line of sight.
VISION BOARD ACTIVITY Display images or quotes that represent what you want to be, do or have in life. Use words and pictures that symbolize experiences, feelings, and/or possessions you want to attract.
SETTING SMART GOALS Specific : Give your goal as much detail as possible. Think about the who, what, where, and when. Measurable: How will you know when you reached your goal? Achievable: Is this possible? How confident are you that you will do it? Relevant: Why are you doing this? Is it important to you? Timely: What is your time frame or deadline?
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Focus and prioritize your time instead of spreading it around on everything. Gives you a sense of accomplishment. Helps you make better decisions. Helps you change, try harder, do better. Helps increase your positivity. Gives you accountability.
FAMILY FITNESS FUN (AT HOME) As the weather is getting colder, here are some tips to stay active as a family indoors. Turn chores into a game. See who can finish the fastest individually or in family teams. Play and stop music like freeze dance. Each time the music stops, family members switch chores (https://www.moneyprodigy.com/chore-games/). My kids like to be chased around the house with the vacuum! Children love dance parties but what about a Simon Says dance party? Play music and every command from Simon is a dance move. In this new age of technology and apps, create an exercise video as a family. Keep a jar of everyone's favorite activities on small folded pieces of paper. Allow someone to pick something out of the jar when you are ready to exercise. Have everyone use pedometers and see who can get in the most steps by the end of the day or week. Blow up balloons and play volleyball. Use things around the house as workout tools: gallon jugs or canned goods as weights; foldiing chair as a bench; or stairs for cardio.
Safe Sitter Safe Sitter is a 5-1/2 hour course for ages 11 and up that covers safety skills, child care skills, first aid and rescue, and business skills. In 2021, I partnered with Girl Scouts of Central Texas and the Un-Included Club to coordinate 5 trainings that reached 71 youth. The average hourly wage for a teenage babysitter is $10. The economic impact of this training is that 71 youth can earn an estimated $710 dollars per hour total. Participants noted that their top favorite parts of the training were the interactive games/activities, learning infant/child choking rescue, and practicing changing diapers.
